Since they're awesome! And they're almost here! What are you looking forward to? I'm gonna watch athletics and swimming like always, gymnastics hoping that the spirit of Sacramone lives on and volleyball. And stuff like kayak and archery, because, hey, it's once in 4 years.

This should really be televised. Anyway, yes, of course I'm ridiculously excited. I'm going to take off some of August 1-3, also to attend the Washington combined tennis, but mainly to sit at home and watch TV. I like the swimming best, and also the gymnastics, and of course I'm interested in how the tennis goes, so the first week is where it's at for me. I will of course watch track and field but I'm not wildly enthused enough to take more vacation. I guess diving is in the second week too, but one of my favorites will have to take a hit somewhere. Bravo (which is clearly the unofficial American network for homosexuals, heartily challenging the official Logo) is showing the tennis all day every day!!!! In short I will watch pretty much whatever is on TV.

I love diving, gymnastics especially the men's high bar, decathlon, pole vaulting, lots of stuff, but not really Olympics tennis. I always liked that Henin had a singles gold while Serena didn't, and that satisfying situation looks destined to end now. Though a Sharapova gold for Mother Russian which she left at age 7 and never goes back to visit but claims to adore, would be even worse. In reality, what I watch will depend 100% on whatever is available on the internet at the right time of day for me to crash on the couch. How did July get half over already, anyway?

I'll watch whatever I can online, and Bravo for some of the tennis. This should work well in my schedule since I have mornings open, so yay.
The first week is superior. Not just because swimming > track, but most of the fun sports we never get to see like archery, ping pong, badminton, fencing are all then.

I LOVE Olympics! I'll be watching everything except for some snooze sports like sailing, cycling or weightlifting, sports with little action going on basically. I'm looking forward to watching sports I usually don't get to see televised - mountain biking and triathlon, and all of the Track and Field competitions along with some badminton, judo, table tennis, kayaking and other individual sports. Since I follow tennis throughout the year I don't really put it on the must see list during the Olympics. Also I usually pass on all of the team sports as well. Football especially.

Oh yes, Edna K reminded me, I will be STANNING HARD FOR US MEN'S VOLLEYBALL WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Your gurls are really good too, they are the biggest favourites for the gold, actually. That team has such ridiculous depth! So many amazingly talented and athletics players. I will probably cheer for them now that the entire Serbian team has lot their limbs and are going to lose each game 3-0. I don't care about tennis at the Olympics this time around, though. I guess it's because it will be like watching Wimbledon all over again, and it's just ended, so zzzz.

I don't have a tv, but if I did, I would have watched rowing (Canada's best sport!), canoe/kayak/other paddle sports (partially for eye-candy value), volleyball (just amazing and exciting to watch), track events, badminton, gymnastics/trampoline. As it is I'll probably watch whatever's on at work or in my parents' house when I'm there.

I'm annoyed. I'm usually so hyped for the Olympics but now that it's ten minutes away from my house and taking over my entire city I can't ignore the immense bullshit that surrounds it. This article sums most of it up. It's mostly not even exaggeration. Is it usually like this, and I just don't come face to face with it every day? www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/tiernan-douieb/dont-forget-its-your-olym_b_1674212.html

I guess Parisians should be glad they lost out on these games at the last minute. But I should be careful because I might get arrested for typing the word "games" ... uh-oh, who's that at the door ??

One of those links in the article led me to this nugget: " ... wearing a t-shirt that features non-Olympics sponsors has recently been banned in the Olympic Park"I can just see these army guys carting away crying children wearing offending clothing. Seriously, I could never imagine how any O------ G---s could be more disgustingly commercial than the Atlanta ones. But London might outdo Atlanta. Oh, well, those of us watching on tv and living thousands of miles away can pretend none of these disturbing issues exist. And those of you who live nearby can at least hope to pick up a cute athlete in some pub near you.

Oh, that's already happened. Some children who were due to take part in something to do with the torch were told that they couldn't do it unless their parents bought - BOUGHT - them Adidas trainers.

I still have absolutely no idea how judo works but the Brazilian bronze medallist winning on his 23rd birthday and breaking down into FLOODS of tears was fairly awesome yesterday. And Brazil won gold in a women's category too, Sarah Menezes' fist-pumping female coach was equally awesome - she seemed more keen to parade her charge around than Menezes was herself.
Cycling road race finish was exciting. In the final stretch I was told by a cycling fan that the KAZ was a doper and the COL was called Rigoberto Uran Uran, which made that the shortest space ever between my beginning to heartily cheer an athlete on and the inevitable crushing disappointment.
Oh! And I have an unexpected free ticket to the swimming on Wednesday! SO EXCITED.

Simon Reed is commentating rowing. Tennis and rowing - that's an odd combo.
Men in judo are the hottest species of the Olympics. The bathrobe spoils all the fun, though.
