without losing a set!!! Awesome run for him. Incredible. It's a damn shame he had to retire in Montreal, but not surprising. Hopefully he'll be healthy next week, but the draw has done him no favours!

Coria has been eating his opponents for lunch... any bets on if he'll do the same to carazz tomorrow? Apparently this is the type of player he hates face though, so maybe it will be different... hopefully not Hopefuly he remembers to put clay on the bottom of his shoes again

Agassi took revenge in US Open (Coria defeated him in Roland Garros). But he is still #5 in the world! Now nowbody can say "he is only a clay player".

26.09.2003 The Chinese from Argentina Kitzbuehel-winner Guilermo Coria loves Vienna and the CA-Tennis-Trophy. After a doping ban and the cooperation with a new coach he won four tournaments in this season.
The 21 year old Argentine was the best player of the european clay court season. In his homeland he is called "Chino" - the Chinese - because of his asian appearance and "El Mago " - the mage - because of his glamorous play.
Coria finished the last year as number 45 in the world. Today the South-American is already in the Top Five! "With the new coach came the upturn", explained Coria in Flushing Meadows, where he reached the quarterfinals, to Austrian journalists.
At the beginning of the year Alberto Mancini replaced Franco Davin. First of all Mancini tried to improve Corias athletic and his match strategy. The hard work paid off.

El Chino? He looks Chinese to you?

Forgot to mention earlier that w his win in Basel, Coria has just pushed :ass: down to #5 in the race!! Woo hoo Guille!! DAVIDOFF SWISS INDOOR Basel, Switzerland October 26, 2003 Coria Wins Basel, Surges to Fourth in Race No. 3 seeded Guillermo Coria won his sixth career title, his fifth of 2003, with a walkover as his countryman David Nalbandian was unable to play the final because of a left wrist injury. Coria becomes only the third South American to win the Davidoff Swiss Indoors after Nalbandian (2002), and Guillermo Vilas (1978), after whom he was named by his parents. He also moves from fifth into fourth position in the ATP champions Race. On his way to the title 21-year-old Coria had defeated Fabrice Santoro, Michael Llodra, Feliciano Lopez and Ivan Ljubicic. Defending champion Nalbandian, who had a perfect 9-0 record in Basel before the final, was troubled by left wrist tendonitis, the same injury which kept him out of action for six weeks after the US Open. Nalbandian (392 points) maintains a strong position in the hunt for the eighth and final spot at the Tennis Masters Cup Houston holding a 70-point-gap on his closest rival Mark Philippoussis (322 points) going into the BNP Paribas Masters. Together with Nalbandian, the contenders for the last spot at the Tennis Masters Cup are Philippoussis, Sebastien Grosjean, Paradorn Srichaphan and Younes El Aynaoui. En route to the final Nalbandian defeated Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo, Arnaud Clement, Tim Henman as well as No. 1 seed Andy Roddick in the semifinals. WHAT THE PLAYERS SAID Coria: "It's a strange way to win a title. I was looking forward to this final, to play a friend. It would have been a good match. For me it's more important that David gets healthy. There will hopefully be more finals between the two of us." Nalbandian: "My wrist felt terrible this morning. I tried to hit some balls but I couldn't hit a backhand. It's hurting when I try to his the ball, I cannot use my left hand. Everyone wants to play a final but what can I do? It's not a great moment for me. I'm so, so sorry for everybody, the crowd has supported me during the whole week." "It's the same injury I had at the US Open. If I had played today maybe I would need to have surgery. I will see doctors tomorrow. I don't think it will be much better in 2-3 days." DOUBLES FINAL FACTS No. 2 seeds Mark Knowles and Daniel Nestor won their sixth title of the season and 23rd title as a team, defeating No. 4 seeded team Mariano Hood and Lucas Arnold 6-4, 6-2 in one hour and 26 minutes. Already qualified for the Tennis Masters Cup in Houston, Knowles won his 30th career doubles title while Nestor added title No. 32 to his collection. Argentines Arnold and Hood were seeking their fourth ATP title together. Arnold was aiming for his 12th tournament victory, Hood for his ninth. Nestor said: "I think it's important to turn it around and win again because we're been on a little slide." Knowles said: "Since I had my bad knee injury in Wimbledon qualies it's nice to be back on the winning track. It's good to get a momentum for Paris and the Tennis Masters Cup." www.atptennis.com/ for Knowles and Nestor too!

Reading rumours about Coria and "new" coaches... I saw in a Span paper that AA was considering coaching Coria if he retired in the Fall... Coria denies all rumours. He talked to Gil Reyes and has trained w him and AA apparently but only a couple of times... nothing definite there. Coria's not doing anything until B.A. tourney is over. He said neither he nor his agent have talked to anyone... any "news" is just a bunch of stupid stuff, he said!! Reyes subject came up cos he and AA were astonished by Coria's velocity! The idea is that Gil give him a plan and help him to play better but Coria can't say anything since Gil is still AA's trainer... So we shall see... interesante... Oops, names tossed around: Nalby's old coach Gabriel Markus, who is Massu and Chela's coach, also Spanish Josep Perlas and Jose Higueras.

Owww...I luv this forum...Can I just thank Hackie??? Okie.... I just went straight here because I luv Mago and I'm also concerned about him... He's been complaining about a new pain in his back...Or I believe it's more like his ab's, because he was touching his ab's in MC's final. So, he's not participating in Barcelona because of that and maybe as an estrategy in order to chill out and not getting overplayed so that he can have more chances in RG.

El Mago has hired a new physical trainer: Javier Capitaine, who previously worked with David Nalbandian.
So we can expect to see Coria fat in January?
He says his main objective is preventing the kind of injuries that dogged him this year.
Mago Man will spend the off season in Barcelona, working with Perlas, and start 2005 in Auckland.

The word on the street is that Ion Tiriac is a big Coria supporter and would like to become his manager. El Mago has not given him an answer yet, apparently...
Recall that Tiriac coached Vilas back in the day, becoming one of the first full-time coaches in the sport.
