"This is a very special win because I know that Borg and Edberg had won this title. It is nice to have my name next to them and it's great to win my second title. When you win your first title it could be by chance, but if you win your second title you really believe you belong up there and you realize you can win many more."

Robin the Swede withdrew from Marseille because of an ankle injury, which I hope was more of a "saving myself for more important tournaments" deal. ;D

Thanks Lee -- fortunately there are not any biggies on the calendar for a couple of weeks -- as long is he is healthy for some France-whooping in March. ;D

svt.se/svt/jsp/Crosslink.jsp?d=21318&a=371413If anyone's interested, if I remember, and if I'm bored I might translate this article some day ;D . It's about the ATP's impending doom on the doubles specialists and Simon Aspelin's reaction to it. In short( surprise, surprise), he thinks it sucks.

(boredom, boredom ) Doubles players excluded from the ATP tour Simon Aspelin: it's bizarre. Doubles specialist will be excluded from the ATP tour. One of many changes the tennisorganisation is expected to implement later this year. In the future, only those who play singles will be eligible for doubles play and there will only be one world ranking. -This is totally bizarre, says Simon Aspelin, one of the players in question, to Svenska Dagbladet. Doubles aren't financially viable, there are no house-hold names, says the ATP. -Doubles have been maltreated before and now we're taking the blame for the tournaments doing badly. We know the spectators appreciate doubles, says Simon Aspelin. Already next year a number of doubles specialists will be stopped from entering tournaments and from 2008 only those players qualified for singles will be allowed to participate in doubles. Although there will be two wild cards per tournament. -This would be a huge blow to us, says Aspelin, who is ranked 23 in the world in doubles, but haven't played singles for many years. More (financial) pain than gain Stockholm Open's tournament director Per Hjertqvist cherishes the change. -It's been discussed for the last ten years and I'm happy there finally is a concrete(?) proposition on the table, he says to SvD. -Doubles have cost the tournaments a fortune. Not only in prize-money, also for hotel rooms among other things, but since doubles don't attract spectators the players haven't contributed their fair share to the tournaments, thinks Hjertqvist. Another proposal from the ATP is to let the sets be first to four games instead of the current six games. Tiebreak at 4-4. This is to allow the players to be able to perform both doubles and singles duties. Rikard Lann ( )

4-0 prosets have been discarded as a really stupid idea. If this is coming from the Euro ATP chief, he is a total asswipe and should be shunted from his position.
I'm surprised Tennis Week doesn't have anything about this.

Thanks Aphex! Well, totally nonsense! They'd better think about why doubles don't attract as many spectators as singles...and do sthg about it than deciding to throw very good doubles players out! Because there are ppl who love seeing doubles. They may not be numerous, but they exist! I'm no specialist, but I think that doubles don't get attention enough or seem to be disliked simply because ppl don't get the chance to see matches very often. I mean, when you have coverage of some tournaments, how many times do you get the opportunity to see doubles matches? Apart from what you can see in DC? I can talk about my own experience. I hardly had seen some doubles on tv and I was thinking that it was sthg boring...But when you happen to see some more matches, and great ones, you change your mind very quickly! There was sthg to be done for the doubles, for sure, but they've solved nothing...

I don't know the source for their information. I also think both ideas are stupid. Try to market doubles better instead. Try to show at least some finals on TV. I don't think the best singles players will make a serious effort in doubles whatever they do. ATP will probably kill doubles outside DC and majors altogether with these suggestions.
