So much for Fighter Masha. The only positive thing that came out of this final is that we didn't have another Steffi vs Natasha situation.

Man oh man that was fun watching that level of play, even if only from one side!

It's all Petrova's "fault".
The no.6 in the world (or whatever no. it is) is not supposed to blow up like that. But, that's women's tennis.

So much for Fighter Masha. No, in the next Slam, Mary Joe will forget this match completely and we will hear about Fighter Maria, Intense Maria, etc all over again.

Maria was tense. You could see it in her service motion and her slow movement. Actually it was the first time I have seen her like that.
It was her first Slam final where she was the favourite which might be the reason, but is still no excuse.

I wonder how it's going to affect Maria. This was not like the Davenport match at IW.

Look at Blake. He's ranked as high as Petrova, and he bowed out early, too. So it's not just women's tennis. Ljubo'd be a better example but on the womens' side there isn't a single top ten player who is good all around and has good nerves. It's hard enough to find one who's good all around even.

Justine is good all around and has good nerves. She has other issues though. For starters, she wasn't here to prevent this.

I wonder how it's going to affect Maria. This was not like the Davenport match at IW. I'm sure she'll win Tokyo or whatever she's entered in. Most of the tour sucks too much to be any trouble

Justine is good all around and has good nerves. but she's fragile But really though, she'll never have a great serve as amazing as she is

And then Wimbledon will be worse.
Lindsay will come back from pregnancy and make the final! And, of course, lose in heartbreaking fashion. To a 300-lb. Venus Williams.

Serena sure made an even bigger mockery out of women's tennis. Not sure if that is correct English.
She exposed the whole tour as low-quality.

At least we know Sybille Bammer is still fearsome.
I'm ready to get back to normality and watch Bovina get killed in many 1r's.

How bad must Bovina be to let that happen to her.

Serena's play today was anything but low quality though. What can you do? She's amazingly strong; extremely strong, and I'm not talking mentally either. She can lift a whole bus if she wants to.
Sharapova is not the best returner of serves nor the best with nerves. This is how she reacted to JHH at the Madrid Masters as well.
I really think JHH is pretty great all around. She has a good serve but a woeful low serve % at times, but both 2nd and 1st serves are good. She is fast, she is a good returner, and she loves this, she lives for this. Sure she gets nervous but I doubt you'd see her perform so badly in a final; she lives for this stuff.
But still tonight, Serena was master class, perfect. She won't do this all the time, but when she plays like this you have to put pressure on her because she will crack a bit. Tonight Pova felt the pressure and wilted like a flower in the sun.
