We were only there for that first Sat qualies as we were in Spain for vac and decided to tack it on at the end -- we flew back to Toronto the next day. It was a fun experience but I w choose a smaller tourney -- also if you like Span players, forget it! Alex and Tommy R were besieged by fans -- couldn't get close to them for pix or autographs! I really wanted to meet Alex! I was all prepared w a card in Spanish and everything! Maybe one day Wimby! And a clay tourney w be really neat! Gstaad comes to mind or maybe Barcelona [we've seen the site -- it's a ritzy tennis club!]. What was your fave experience fr Madrid? Which players made the biggest impression on you and your friends?

Pity you couldn't have stayed longer, and a real shame about not getting Alex to sign your card.I know what you mean about the Spanish players though..we saw JC at the end of a practice and he nearly got crushed by little kids! I was very impressed by a Swiss player I saw practice..name of *Federer*..you heard of him? Seriously though, we saw a great match between Moya and Gonzalez, who hits the ball SO hard. And my friend was lucky enough to meet one of her faves Nico Lapentti, who was very charming and sweet.Marat played like a five year old against Callieri...but I got his autograph again..so that almost made up for it. We also thought the idea of leaving the roof off the *green room* was great since we saw Rogi arrive one morning and take his trackie bottoms off ( though he did already have his shorts on underneath!) Would be great if you made it to Wimby some time..Rogi would have his very own cheering squad!

;D Too bad about the shorts underneath, eh? Hee hee! But he does have nice legs, our Rogi! Yeah, I think I've heard of him... isn't he that tall, dark, athletic, long-haired Swiss guy w the gorgeous eyes?
I bet you the Green Room will have a roof on it next yr! I was kinda spying on Robredo from there! I saw Gonzo practising w ?? but his fans were cheering them on -- it was fun watching! And I saw Rios, Haas, Malisse, got Max's autograph and a lovely pic... I've yet to meet Maratski -- another one on my list of "conquests"!!
How in the world do you get tix for Wimby anyway?
I love watching practices -- more relaxed and you get to see the players be themselves a little more. Do you have any good pix from Madrid?
I was asking some people, mostly kids, while watching Alex/Tommy practise, who was the most popular in Spain. They all said Alex, not Juanqui.
Anyway, has Rogi resumed play yet??

Sadly, unless you're incredibly rich and can afford corporate seats, the only way to get Wimby tix is to queue. And if you want show court tix that usually means an overnight stint on the pavement! I know what you mean about the practices being fun to watch...and the players are much more relaxed and enjoying themselves. Madrid photos area a touchy subject....one of my friends managed to delete a whole load from her digital camera by mistake, and my camera broke with the film inside ......still...I have my memories...oh and a couple of pics of Rogi and Peter

;D double the reasons! 607. Max says the nicest things about his friend Rogi: "Having a partner like Roger is a big deal. He's a guy who understands what you need to do to win, even if it means playing two matches in one day like we did on Friday because of the rain," said Mirnyi. "We were both fit enough to play three matches in two days and we didn't exert ourselves too much since we won both in straight sets. It's great for us to win because it's one of the biggest tournaments on tour and it's Roger's first Tennis Masters Series wins. It's the big ones like this that you always remember." 608. Rogi now has five career doubles titles, three with Max. 609. Rogi and Max won their first Tennis Masters Series doubles title in Miami03. 610. Rogi and Max's Miami doubles win is their most prestigious doubles title to date! 611. Rogi and Max have won doubles titles in Rotterdam and Moscow in 2002 and reached the final at the 2002 Pacific Life Open 612. Rogi and Max are 16-4 on the year as a duo.

;D Here are a few more reasons... 613. When Rogi is playing as well as he has been so far in 2003, he is PHENOMENAL! 614. Rogi is so good in DC that Forget despairs that he doesn't have a "Federer" on his DC team AND that he hopes that Rogi will be playing at 80% and his players at 120%! 615. Rogi realizes that he has a heavy responsibility in DC to win his matches vs. France and that he has to be prudent and that he can't make a mistake. 616. Rogi felt badly after he and George lost the doubles in Arnhem this year and blamed the loss on his own poor performance. 617. Winning a grand slam is definitely Rogi's top priority goal! 618. Rogi loves and appreciates the support of his Swiss fans in DC matches! 619. Rogi finally conquered his "bete noire" in beating Escude in the DC03 QF. 620. Rogi also got his revenge after he lost to Escude in Neuchatel in 2001. 621. At the time of the DC03 QF Rogi was 24-6! 622. Rogi and Marc defeated Escude and Santoro in the doubles match of the DC03QF 64 36 63 76 (4), to bring SUI 2-1 on FRA! 623. Rogi believes in the Swiss DC team spirit. 624. According to the French press: Roger Federer a été véritablement impressionnant = Roger Federer has been truly impressive! 625. Rogi won 23 sets in a row in DC when he beat Escude in straight sets 64 75 64.

How do we love thee, Rogi? Let me count more ways... 626. Rogi helped Switzerland reach the Semifinals of the DC for the first time since 1992. 627. Rogi in the DC QF has garnered such superlatives as: "Fabulous Federer leads Swiss coup" and "Magnificent Federer Puts Switzerland in the Semis "! 628. Even the French have high praise for Rogi: "un Federer impérial", "du tout grand Federer ", " la star du jour, Roger Federer" and "Federer parfait!". 629. Rosset called Rogi the "jewel" of the Swiss DC team. 630. This was Rogi's tennis vs. Santoro: "Overheads, drop-shots, passing shots, everything he touched turned to gold. In no time the match was over."

Thanks, Aveentje, for adding to our list! Here's some more: 636. Rogi and Max were the Doubles Team of the month on March03! 637. Rogi said that for Mother's Day he would take his Mom to South Africa for a round of golf and give her "the perfect day"! (isn't he a sweet little son?) There are ALWAYS reasons to LOVE Rogi!

Rogi is now 36-7 after the Roma03 Final. 647. Rogi became the first Swiss player to reach the final in Rome! 648. Rogi got over his tough loss in Roma to beat Max in the 1st rd of Hamburg.

650. Although Flip beat him, Rogi fought really, really hard to come back in the third set. 651. Rogi did NOT let Flip bagel him. 652. Rogi was filmed for the ATP show playing pool in his shorts!

OK, time to remind Rogi why he too can win a slam! 655. Rogi has been described as a "hugely talented Swiss player capable of playing sublime tennis on any surface". 656. According to some, Rogi can "serve-volley and improvise his game as well as anyone... but in Paris his impeccable groundstrokes down both flanks and exceptional touch are likely to be his most valuable assets". 657. Rogi's "versatility is amply illustrated by the fact that his two best grand slam performances so far came on two totally different surfaces". 658. Rogi is seeded a personal-best No. 5 at RG03. 659. Rogi is the "stylish Swiss" tennis player! ALLEZ, RODGEUR!
