Blake has never won a 5-setter, and he won't now.
Ivo hasn't either, but whatever. He should have won that Wimbly match over Bracelets! I want a tape of that match.

Speaking of Bracelets, he is being destroyed by Fit Dave.

Ivo wins! If he can stay healthy this summer, we may be seeing him seeded in slams.

Boo, Augie sucks.
Shenay appears to be the only American who's won today.

The 6 retirements was apparently also a RG record.

I'll finally get to see Akgul play against Nicole, hopefully.

Nice results to come home to! Happy for Blake/Roddick/Henperson losing soon enough that I didn't even have to acknowledge that they showed up in the first place, and for BIG AKGUL of course. Sad for Aga and Caravane though, and really bad luck for Nadia Vaidisova's draw has fallen wide, wide, wide open to the QF - her ranking should be reasonably safe unless her wrist gives out. I'd love to see Akgul play, I won't get to watch it live but hopefully highlights of it will appear somewhere.

Akgul/Vania pic How about that Jonas! He's still got it in him to go 5 sets on clay. King of the geezers!

Too bad that Old Jonas meets his demise in Round 2.

Dr. Ivo on a rampage. Good. Gonzo was one of the most consistent players on the circuit in terms of tournament results last year - now he's the most unpredictable. Roddick looked completely hapless out there. I've seen him play so many times, yet I still find myself horrified at just how shite he is from the baseline. Berdych We talk about Müller and Garbin, but how did Florian Mayer find himself seeded at a Slam? Nikki V. played horribly. No return game to speak of. Maybe she'll experience "the shock of the new" against that strange creature you're all so fond of tomorrow. Saw some chunks of Nudd-Ahl vs Del Potro. It was . Nudd-Ahl looked like an average player who happens to be really, really, really, really fast. I started a thread about RG at a large local indie rock message board. It's always interesting to hear from the casual viewers. They're usually very vocal about their preferences. One of them called Nudd-Ahl a "matarruano", which is the best single word description I have ever read of any player, but sadly untranslatable. Highlight of the day was Ljubicic's play at the end of the final set, because I had never seen him get so fired up. When he lost to Fish at the AO, he looked comatose throughout.

And Hajek follows up his great play at the ARAG WTC with a win.

Watching this Ivo win now... he's a terror on clay. I'd be surprised if he doesn't pull a Verkerk some year. His 1st serve is still huge enough to completely dominate, his 2nd is even better on clay since it bounces like a superball and forces you 15 feet behind the baseline. And he can at least get returns in play and challenge you on the return.
I don't think Gonzo's been that unpredictable this year. His only real bad results were Monte Carlo and Estoril... and Andreev played very well in Monaco. Plus, last year he was Federer-like in pulling out nearly every close match. Losing like that to Hingis' BF is a big shock.
The sad thing for Roddick is that it was the best clay match I've seen him play. He actually looked confident and attacked in the first 2 sets. But, Andreev went on a string of incredible forehands to close the 2nd... and Andy lost all hope, and went back to his wimpy, 10 feet behind the baseline, hit super short sitting backhands that get pounded for winners, and wonder how his opponent is so "lucky". With a combination of Connors' telling him to go to net... which only works as a pressure play to draw errors on other surfaces where Andy's serve can dominate. Because Andrew has no chance of ever being a competent volleyer.
Del Potro annoys me. Hit your serve. If he ever learns that, he's gonna be a star. Top 10, easily.
