Grar... the American media is going with the "Serena Amazing Fighter" crap after her win. Ugh. Of course. But John McEnroe and Mary Carillo went on and on today about Serena's "acting skills" -- not saying that she faked the injury, but they were sure that she over-dramatized the severity of it. Given the way she played after returning, running and leaping about. So the heroism stories elsewhere were definitely offset on national network tv today by the faker stories. And I think the truth lies somewhere in between.

Serena was definitely hurt, you could see her calf muscle enlarge. I've had strains there, and it's definitely not fun. It's also a mental injury too, because when it happens it hurts like hell, and then it quickly disappears, but kind of lingers and feels like it can happen again.
But, it was hardly heroic to continue playing. It wasn't a serious injury. And she definitely got some help from her pathetic opponent.

When the same thing happened to Justine, people were yelling CHEATER!!~~~~, and that was before they asked her to PUT UP HER HAND~. And she wasn't nearly as dramatic as Ree was.

I wonder if Justine will complain about fake injuries like she did against L. A. Davenport.

Jankovic was completely spent. No serve, her shots had no bite, Marion bossed her around from start to finish, and as the third set rolled on even her speed was beginning to desert her. But Marion is one of the most underrated ball strikers on the WTA.
Saw some chunks of the first and second sets of the "Nikki V. beats up on her bitch" special. Far too many errors from Nicole as usual, but she always comes up with touch shots and other clever stuff I didn't even know she could do. Mauresmo played like crap and hit only puffballs that even The Worst Grasscourt Mover Ever nearly always managed to retrieve.

I'm all for mocking Rafa and his ridiculously slow play that's just gotten worse over time. I don't really know where The Cult stands regarding Nudd-Ahl.

Now that you mention it, I don't know what the Group Opinion on Nadal is here, either! I like him myself, but that doesn't mean I like everything he does. But I can't think of a single player that everyone here likes, or that everyone here dislikes. Are there any? Maybe everyone likes Lucie Safarova, but only because she hasn't been around long enough or won enough to bug anyone too much yet.

The most enigmatic is Tennislurker. I remember following Nudd-Ahl's match vs Future World #1 Nole in Miami online with him and I came out of it still not knowing if he liked Nudd-Ahl or not.

I'm trying to figure out why I don't like Nadal.
He gets coached, he dances, he wears pirate pants, he's a dirtballer, and he stalls. Yet, none of those generally cause me to dislike players.
It must be... I was a coria fan, and I didn't like him stealing "EL MAGO's" thunder... and he has a Neanderthal-like facial structure, which reminds me of Richard and Reenus Williams, so of course I can't root for him.

Most people here like Dementieva, and I know you like her. So you are wrong. Do you like Sharapova? There are a couple of people here who like Shriek.

I used to think that I disliked Nudd-Ahl because of his retrieving, since I hate WTA retrievers with a passion. But then when I watched Cañas I didn't mind him at all. It must be the constrast between Nudd-Ahl's macho man hystrionics and his chickenshit high % game.

I still like Rafa. He's normally very entertaining to watch. It's just that his matches take forever because he's an asshole with the stalling. But, if the umps don't want to enforce the rules on anyone with the slightest notoriety, then whatever.

Watched those last few games of the match vs Soderling today and the passive way Nudd-Ahl tends to play decisive points, just hitting moonballs down the middle, really gets on my nerves. Small wonder it took 5 MPs. And it annoys me even more that he always gets away with it in the end.
