Doris, I too am terribly sorry about your situation and hope you are able to come up with some way to get a computer or at least use one with internet access. It won't be fun with you and Mrs. B gone at the same time! I hope you are able to resolve your situations in good time and that you'll be back with us as soon as possible

And now I'm really thinking about getting a PC at home with Internet access of course. But it may take a while - as soon as I know more about my situation I let you all know.
And yes my support for all the swissies (especially Roger) will always be there!!
Well you guys take care and keep this place as great as it is!!

Had I new about the situation earlier I would have quit the job by the end of the year just to travel to the AO - now I'm too late for that....

Doris, how's it going? Are you going to chill out until the New Year? Good to see you posting!! Is it looking Christmasy in SUI? We only have a dusting of new snow now and it's supposed to get warmer and maybe RAIN on Christmas Day -- YUK!! Oh well, I've hardly done anything for Christmas yet -- too much work in the way.

Doesn't look like Christmas at all the bit of snow we got Thuesday is gone...
...well and I just don't fell like Christmas...
...now it's official I quit my job a month earlier than they wanted to send me off... .... guess they really were surprised by my desicion and maybe find it a bit unfair too - but gee once you know you have to go and 50 % part time job never was a solution for me - the motivation just goes too. So why stay any longer. Sure now they have a time problem as it won't be easy to find someone (well doesn't that sound funny - getting rid of me and then having to look for someone....) and me teaching that pearson everything in 6 weeks (still have two weeks holidays next year...). That's going to be fun (or maybe not) and I for sure won't be able to log in as much as I used to. (For that my job just was really perfect and it's a shame it endet that way - but maybe it just had to be....)
I for sure try everything to keep in touch with all you guys but it can be that I won't be able to post for some time after end of February....
...oh well I'm sure I'm going to find some other job just can't be bothered to look for one in the old year..
wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.

Well guys my last day here at work as arrived - and I still don't have a PC at home... ...sure I'll try to come bye for a quick hello every now and then but it won't be on a regular basis. My trip is looking good - starting right after DC (when I get tickets - I know on Monday...) going first to Japan then China - Shanghai is still a question mark but will make a trip to Guilin and the riseterrasses and Beijing and the great Wall - then taking the train to Ulaan Baatar where I'll make a trip to the desert Gobi - again taking the train to Irkuts - doing some hiking there before I'll be heading to Moscow and St. Petersburg. I'll be back right in time to follow Wimby on TV and then I have to look for a new job... ...well you guys take care and keep on cheering for Roger also from my part bye for now (too bad I still can't log into mtf - so good bye to these guys and gals as well)

Wow, Doris, sounds like you have a really great trip planned out!! And lots of time to enjoy yourself, too. Wonderful -- we all deserve to have such a rich vacation. I hope you'll tell us about it when you get back. Say hello to Russia for me and enjoy the onion-domes We'll miss you since you can't come by very much anymore, but I think you have our emails? Have a nice trip, Doris! You hit some good places in China and be prepared when taking on the Gobi Desert. Be very careful with the water you drink. Reliable brand of bottled water the best.

Hello all! Guess i'll post this here. Guess who i spent the day with ? Doris rang me up at 8:30 this morning while i was still in bed, she was close to the vicinity, she came to Bern to get a visa at the Russian embassy but they were closed, so she gave me a buzz. I asked her over, had some tea/coffee, cookies, she used the pc, i made a light lunch and then we went to the city and watched "Cold Mountain". She's gonna go with another poster from Roger's site to Lausanne in April, for sure i'll meet here there. Too bad they're not holding it here in Bern, our stadium here can hold 16,000, the one in Lausanne is only half. Oh well...maybe another time.

One day... I just saw Basel on some old travel show on a Rhine River cruise that ends there... ah yes, Rogi's town! Looks so medieval!

Ohayoo gozaimasu Yes I`m still around Just was too busy to be able to post everywhere so I keept to rf`s page and once in a while to mtf. Just thought I`m not going to flood my travel reports on rf - and I don`t think they`ll be read on mtf so this seams to be the best place. Hope you guys don` mind. Well my trip to Japan was no problem at all. Zuerich - Frankfurt - Osaka - Matsuyama and finally by train to Imabari. Where I`m still right now. Kind of enjoying a relaxing day.@and hopefully be able to get rid of that dam cold I managed to catch... ...well it rains outside so best time to use the PC - as my friends have to do othersings. Where to start. As I said I had a safe trip. Meet my friends at the train station where I got surprised by a special guest. To my embarassment I didn`t recognise the girl who wen`t to the same language school in New Zealand@years ago (14 to be precise..). We spent the day looking for the last remaining cherry trees still blooming. (Thanks to DC@i just missed the high season of the cherry blossom - but@hey I would have in now way missed that tie!!!) Still found some but of course it wasn`t the same than when seeing all of them blooming at the same time. Oh well maybe one time I`ll manage to see the cherry blossom which really must be amazing. Saturday we spent with doing hard labour.... First we wen`t digging for young bamboo - a plant which isn`t growing in Switzerland. And these bamboo forests just look soo great with their bright clear green. After that we waited till the tide was out so we could go looking for mussels. All things I have never done before still it was great fun - and even though I`m not too keen in seafood I have to say they were yummie!! Sunday we went biking - which seams quite an entertainment here. Well the place was quite unusuall too. A few years back they built a new brige connecting to the mainland. And they made a special line just for the bikes! So you can go on a ride without having to care about the traffic - which isn`t that heavy as it`s quite costly to use this brige!! (we swiss people are already complaining about the higwayfee we have to pay which is with CHF 40.-- year really not that expensive - here it cost about CHF 20.-- one way and you`re still have to use about 5 other briges till you reach Honchu Island (which I call the mainland even though I know it`s not true) ) Having lunch on one of the island enjoing the sun was great fun - should have taken my swimmsuit with me then I would have gone for a swimm... ... dinner we had in a pretty famos noodles shop in Funakawa (hope I spelled that right as I recall it out of my head - still can`t read japanese...) And as I said before today is lazy day - it`s raining anyways so best thing to relax and give my body time to recover. Still have to get used to sleep on a futon. Gee was my whole body ever stiff after the first night!! And still feel a bit tired from the jet lag = I really wonder how all these playerss cope to deal with the jetlag all the time... ...here are just some tips for anybody tempting to visit Japan (always seen from a swiss point of view) Take shoes you can easily take off and on as you never enter a privat house with your shoes on. And you even have to take them off in certain Restaurants. Look that your trousers/pants aren`t too tight - you might be ending up sitting on the floor the whole day. When handing things out - use both hands a thing I have to work on it myself Don`t be surprised when you find a small basked upside down with a whole in it and an otherone with a handle infront of the bathtube. It`s just a japanese way of taking a bath - means that you sit on the basked and wash yourself by using the other basked like a shower. And then when you`r all clean you jump into the bath. Oh and don`t be surprised that in a public bath (not to be mistaken with a swimmingpool) all the ppl are naked. Now I hope I haven`t bored you guys too much. Will keep u updated as good as I can. See you guys around. To bad Roger pulled out of MC - but I guess he knows what he`s doing. Doris

Doris Wow, sounds like you've been having a blast! I'm glad you're enjoying Japan That's so cool, being able to travel between the islands so easily. LOL, thanks for the tips, too! Bathing in such a way would be too complicated for me :red: It's interesting that Japan and Russia have many customs in common (the gift giving and public baths, for example). But not that surprising since they are so close. I wouldn't mind reading more of your reports as you travel through the East I'm glad you were able to get around here again and tell us how it's been going!

Cool report, Doris! Wow, you're already doing a lot! Good to see you're getting into the Japanese way of life... lots of ritual in Japan, even in modern Japan. The cherry blossoms are supposed to be wonderful! And the noodles... yum!! Hope you slurped loudly... bamboo is an amazing plant -- you'll see it's used for all sorts of things, from mats to rice paddles to paint brushes... quite versatile! I love the look of the bamboo tree w its graceful leaves... beautiful in Japanese brush paintings but v difficult to paint... How DO you get around if you don't speak Japanese I wonder... will you go to Kyoto? It's very cultural! Keep the reports coming when you can post!

Tadaima Well as long as I have the chance I will post as much as I can that`s mainly while I`m here in Japan. No I`m not going to Kyoto been there last time it`s a nice place but this time I just don`t have time. From Osaka I`ve only seen the airport so far and I`m afraid it won`t be much more also becouse of lack of time. Been to Kotohira and the Konpira (sp ??) Shrine. Some good workout for me after all these huge meals of all so many different yummy japanese food as there had to be more than 1300 steps to be climbed to be at the top from where you had a great view. Took an other way back to Imabari (where I`m staying at the moment) so I got a nice round trip on Shikoku Island Imabari - Todatsu - Kotohira - Kubokawa - Uwajima - Matsuyama - Imabari. It`s really a nice Island with a lot of hills (even more than in the Emmental) and rivers. Heaps of little tiny fields mainly rise. Tonight a friend from Hiroshima will come over and Tomorrow he`ll show me around in Hiroshima a place I`ve never been to before so looking forward to it. Over the coming weekend I`ll visit a friend who lives in Kanazava now where he`ll be showing me around the Peninsula. A part of Japan I`ve never been to before either as last time I spend most time in the south of Honshu Island, Kyushu Isloand and Shikoku Island. Then when I can arrange it my last stop will be in Gifu to see an other friend before I fly to Guilin (China) next Wednesday. Are there any other tipps I can give you about Japan hmm can`t think of any maybe just that it`s a good thing to have the Japan Rail Pass (which you can get only outside of Japan) as that means unlimited use of most of the trains in Japan and they really have an excellent train system which is also frequently used and there fore has quite a good timetable. (Unlike in New Zealand where you only get about 3 trains a day one going north one south and one west...) Oh and I`m improving my jobstick skills everyday Itte Kimasu Doris

Ni How Sorry it's been a while but I couldn't go to mtf (where I always have to serch for a post from Rebeca to find this site...) from my friends PC. Right now I'm at Hong Kong Airport waiting for my connecting flight to Guiling where I start to explore China. The remaining Time in Japan was great - what else It's hard to believe that Hiroshima was all sutt and ashes almost 60 years ago. It's now a very modern and busy city! Sure we went to the Dome the last remaining ruin of that terrible day on Aug 6th 45. And also to the War Memorial Museum really interresting. From Hiroshima I took Shinkhansen to Shin Osaka and then normal train (which is still pretty fast) to Kanazawa where an other good friend picked me up. Kanazawa is suposed to be in a county side area hmmm well still pretty big and busy city. The weekend we spent exploring the Noto Hanto (peninsula). Unfortunately i can't tell you all the places we went as I don't know the names of them as I couldn't read athe signs... but we had a great thime. The night we spent in an old traditional japanese Hotel wow did we ever get spoiled. It was great and I enjoyed it very much. For once I had a chance to see japan from an other side which was great and I enjoyed it very much. Well Japan is pretty hilly and has quite a lot of Alps too. So every flat part is used up either to build houses streets or then risefields! Guess there's no squaremeater left wich isn't used of some sort. Monday I explored the really beautiful Gardens from Kanazawa one of the 3 most beautiful from Japan if not the most beautiful one. Then on the train again to Ogaki where I visited an other friend. To bad it was raining the next day so we stayed home. And dtoday isbig travel day and it's not finished jet. Tipps> When giving gifts to japanase ppl make sure it's nothin pointed - they take it as a bad sighn... ...oh and quit often japanese ppl don't lift their feets when walking Next update from China in about a week bye for now. So Doris, you took the Bullet Train [that's the Shinkansen I think] -- wonder if it's faster than the highspeed trains in Europe like the TGV and AVE? I w love to stay in one of those Japanese inns -- ryokans, right? That's where you can really get away fr it all, in nature. My parents and sister stayed in one yrs ago when they went to Japan. Safe journey to China and we await your next report! Thanks, Doris!!
