You could tell she was about to say "Because I don't like her" before she caught herself, too.

It's looking really good for Safina to reach her second straight Slam SF, too, unless Azarenka has a breakthrough.

And what happened to Masha? I didn't see a point of it. Serve fell apart, Kudryavtseva's flat shots completely messed up her timing, her own groundstrokes had nothing on them (as Maria herself admitted). I feel like I'm stuck in the tennis version of Les Âmes Grises. Her interview is up, and it's a great read! I especially liked this grrrl power part: Q. Does it speak about the depth in the game that this can happen? People say the women's game is predictable. It hasn't been predictable for the last two days. ALLA KUDRYAVTSEVA: It's guys. They always say the women's game is predictable. They always say you women can't serve, you don't go to the net, you can't slice. No, we can do it all. We're strong. Don't listen to them. FUCKIN' A! Two years ago, I was watching her lose in the 1R of the Estoril qualies to Rüütel. Her ranking back then: #154.

Funny stuff from Kudryavsteva. She deserves this one after the hideous loss to Venus last year.
I am ... impressed, and a little bemused by Tammy's win today. I thought Vera had just too much for her, but ... I guess not. Of course, I expect her to lose at any time, but maybe it's possible for her to beat Erakovic.
Woz (DEN) may beat Jelena.
Kleybanova. May she stop a Sugiyama revival and a Venus title.
I believe Venus once lost a set to MJMS. I don't think she'll drop another, but hey, hope springs eternal.
Peng actually did something. Beating Bammer was a good win (for her). Maybe she can take advantage of the post-Mariabeating Alla.
Too bad for Elena that she's on a collision-course with Safina. I actually believe she is too good a player to end her career without a Slam title, but that's probably what will happen. The French Open draw broke down for her, and she choked to Dinara. This draw is wide-open for her too. Come on, baby!

Too bad, I though Ernie Gulbis could do the job. Wishful thinking? Saw a handful of points while FFWDing. Nadal playing the exact same way he does on clay, retrieving and moonballing, and he may well win it all playing just like that. The Cult's Chapter of the Faymous Ass Appreciation Society will forgive me for being so one-note, but this really isn't the way it should be. It's good that all the big serving goons with no game are out, but would a Nadal win be that much of an improvement?

Baczinsky is forehand of doom? I thought she was an all court pusher like the other players her age.
It'd be fitting if Kleybanova completed the wasted promise troika with Hsieh and Kanepi of 2008 GS quarterfinalists.

Andy lost?! I went to sleep mid-way through the second set. What a relief. Maria played piss-poor and did not deserve the win. Alla played a good match and I loved her attitude. She was relaxed and smiling throughout.

Tipsy And cut your hair! Ha! Troof. But I want that bod all over me right now. Thirded. Also, shave. His interview is up now, though, and it's so charming and thoughtful. Q. What are your thoughts on why there's such a difference that you peak for the big matches? JANKO TIPSAREVIC: Maybe I'm being a little bit too honest with the press now, but definitely the reason is when I play against big guys, top 10 players, world No. 1's, ex world No. 1's, in my head there is this thought knowing that if I don't play good I'm going to get killed on the court. That leaves me with no option and I rise to the occasion, which when I play with other guys, sometimes for no reason I think that I don't have to play as good to beat them. Then at the end, that costs me the victory. Q. Is this linked to your background, where your family could only get one kilo of carrots... JANKO TIPSAREVIC: No, I don't believe in Rocky Balboa stories and this. We don't have money when we were kids and now we fight more than the British. This is complete Hollywood story, which I don't believe in.

Beating Bammer was a good win (for her). Maybe she can take advantage of the post-Mariabeating Alla. MJMS lost something like 6-2, 3-6, 0-6 to Venus in the 2001 AO, I think. That was the year Venus could barely get a ball in court all tournament but still somehow reached the SF, where Hingis annihilated her. Finish her off seven years later, MJMS! I don't want Kleybanova in the 4th round. I don't want her on a show court against Venus, because I don't want to read the snarky putdowns of women's tennis which will ensue. I don't want someone who's so fucking obese being representative of the sport! At least Ai is a proper athlete. I wonder what's up with Bammer - she's had some terrible losses in the past few weeks.

Baczinsky is forehand of doom? I thought she was an all court pusher like the other players her age. She has a very good, very reliable serve and a decent BH, but hits her FH with the most extreme grip this side of ALG. It's unbelievably loopy. Thus Pin = Serve of Doom Bacsinszky = FH of Doom
