I probably don't care enough to find any live streams.
In case anybody was considering asking - yes, this needed to be it's own thread. I couldn't decide which of the others deserved ruining most. It was an 8-way tie.

This tournament is retarded. Which is why it infuriates me when people go on and on about how Wimbledon is the biggest tennis tournament in the world - what are the Australian Open, Roland Garros and US Open...Tier IVAs?
Micheal Mewshaw rips Wimbledon in his book, which is hilarious and true.

Wimbledon has some issues but by the end of the fortnight everyone will love it again, including me.

No, I still hate it.
I basically never watched anything but the Wimbledon finals until 2001 since I couldn't get HBO and NBC's tape delay garbage blech. And Wimbly has been horrible since then.
The stupid Round of 16 schedule irks me, too. That's when we're past seeded players crushing scrubs, and show competitive matches with some players we don't usually see. But, no, we don't get any of that because of The Championships: Wimbledon stupid awful shitty "tradition".

I hate when people say it's the best tournament "just because." No. Fail.
I think nowadays, most of the players would most prefer to win RG...probably because it suits their games best, since no one can play on grass. But it is what it is.

Wimbledon has always been retarded. We know that.
This year, maybe much less than ever, though. The roof will cut down on the retardation.
But of course it will never truly end until the "special" seedings end. I wish Rusedski will come out of retirement and get seeded #32. You know they want to do that.

Wimbledon has always been retarded. We know that. This year, maybe much less than ever, though. The roof will cut down on the retardation. True. I had forgotten about the roof. Someday, this will almost be like a real tournament! I want to slap the "special seedings" in the face. If you have to scream at the top of your lungs how special you are and invent ridiculous things that real tournaments don't need in order to demonstrate how "special" you are, then you aren't fucking special. That said, I assume that many, if not most, players would still list this as the tournament they most want to win. Whether the tournament is now retarded or not, reputation counts for something (usually far more than it should. This is also why it took 20 years for somebody to realize that instead of handing him movie roles, Chris O’Donnell should be on TV)

Well, it just shows I'm retarded. I hardly ever watch it, but one good thing about Wimbledon is the digital coverage, which shows all sorts of matches you wouldn't normally get to see. On the downside I've always thought the emphasis on 'tradition' doesn't really help tennis in this country. People have a mental connection between tennis and Cliff Richard, and that can't be good. I haven't even picked all the bits up yet.

I guess I can see why it's a retarded tournament, but it's my local one and the one I always attend in person, so I really love it. And it's good to see tennis dominate the press for a fortnight, even if most of the coverage is dumb.

I want to slap the "special seedings" in the face. If you have to scream at the top of your lungs how special you are and invent ridiculous things that real tournaments don't need in order to demonstrate how "special" you are, then you aren't fucking special. Indeed. Wimbledon's arcane oddities, usually lumped under the umbrella term "tradition", are now nothing more than a marketing gimmick. The grass season as a whole is becoming irrelevant. Traditional grasscourt skills are now useless, and most players don't even bother learning how to move/play on grass. For many WTA top players and scrubs alike, their only objective for the grasscourt season is to come out of it uninjured. The Euro players are now bred on clay, and it's actually at RG that the young players tend to break through nowadays. The age in which Wimbledon was the first big stage for the young supernovas is over. On the ATP front it isn't quite as bad, but the winners of both this week's tournaments play a standard issue big serve+big FH US-style hardcourt baseline game. My infatuation with grasscourt tennis is pretty much over. Things I still look forward to from Wimbledon nonetheless: - first day with pristine grass - it looks wonderful; every year I always watch the first televised match from Queen's, regardless of who's playing, for the same reason - more laid back schedule (13:00 start for televised coverage) - all-white means the tennis chicks have to ditch the garish, tacky outfits they use during the rest of the year, though some still find a way to look ridiculous (e.g. Sharapova) - ATP rock fights make for a change from the endless topspin rallies we're stuck with for the rest of the year

Things I still look forward to from Wimbledon nonetheless: Forgot to add (not Wimbledon, but grass season nevertheless): - great TV coverage of ATP grass warmup events Couldn't watch as much of Halle as I did in previous years, unfortunately.

I really just made this thread because I think this tournament is retarded and felt empty if I couldn't declare this as loudly as possible, but it works as an overall negativity thread, too. Sometimes, negativity is productive! Always.

Also, I will be the first to note that even though I think this tournament is super lame, I will still follow it. Not like I did Roland Garros - I won't be watching a single stream until late in the second week, if at all. But follow it, I will.
I see myself posting in this thread a lot over the next two weeks.

Granted, if you had said at the start of Wimbledon 2007 that either Schiavone or Bartoli would be in the final, I am not sure Schiavone wouldn't have been the more likely pick...
Of course, it's 2009, so, yeah.
