Yeah, we're getting to Timbledon levels of annoyance now. Muzza, hate.

CBS screws up the USO schedule, but at least they show live tennis. And don't force other networks to not show shit.

CBS screws up the USO schedule, but at least they show live tennis. And don't force other networks to not show shit. Seriously. They're not even going to SHOW that match. They're going to play the whole Fed match, and then they'll show Muzza and/or Roddick -- MAYBE live but probably not. So why not let ESPN keep showing it if it's ratings anathema? Oh, right, because people would probably stay on a station to watch a live "second-rate" match rather than switch channels to see a tape-delayed marquee match. HINT HINT.

When I was able to watch the match ( ) I noticed that Djokovic had lost that...excitement on the court. He's extremely subdued these days. I feel like he's reacting badly to the media's (kind of arbitrary, but kind of understandable) positioning him as The Asshole in the Big Four, and so he's tempering his actions on court. But...he needs to pump himself up, because that's what he's used to doing. It's unfortunate that when Roger fistpumps and cries he's The Sensitive Genius, and when Novak shouts and laughs, he's The Asshole...but it looks like he's just going to have to get used to it. Poor lamb.

To avoid future confusion:
Murray = Mandy. Roddick = Randy.
Thoughts?

Murray = Mandy. Roddick = Randy. LOL. But no. Isn't Rafa The Bull? The Raging Bull? The Bullfighter? Etc. Muzza was destined to be The Asshole but since he's a native English speaker (sort of), he's, like, everyone's favorite now. He's now The Great Scot (dumb).

Back in the day, I was partial to Pandy myself. But really you should just go with it, people will either catch on or they won't.

Novak definitely changed after the USO situation with Andrew. Which is unfortunate, because I think Andrew crossed the line there. And if there's a jerk in the upper echelon of tennis, it's Mr. Roddick, yet he NEVER gets called on it.
Roger has always been thought of as "classy", but he's a cocky prick too. Even now, Ivo hits an error, and Roger randomly does the between the legs shot. The crowd cheers, and the announcers babble about how talented he is. Anyone else, that doesn't happen. Especially since the dummy blew a match point in a SLAM by stupidly trying that shot.
I hate senseless double standards, and tennis is full of them. Sigh.

And if there's a jerk in the upper echelon of tennis, it's Mr. Roddick, yet he NEVER gets called on it. So, I love his game, and he's funny, and I think he's hot, but you're right...to a degree. First, he's not a threat anymore, so he's kind of eliminated from the conversation. Second, he is called on it, but not as much as he used to be, because of the first point. Third -- and this is what saves the other Andy too -- he's an Anglophone, and the media will always build up those guys. It's very hard to cast them in a villainous role when they know that a substantial plurality of fans will like them simply because they are from English-speaking countries.

This makes it all the more impressive that Hewitt managed to out himself as a total ass.

So apparently Richard's wife is the new Yuri Sharapov?
My interest in tennis is down to late 90's levels.

Roddick also gets away with it b/c despite being one of the worst assholes on court (in terms of disrespecting his opponents, at least), he seems extremely personable and good company off it - and of course he's quotable, does that witty repartee thing w/the media. Pays their bills - they can't hate him. Obviously as an Anglophone he's in a stronger position to do that.

The English-speaking country representation definitely helps, but Sampras got guff for being "boring" and "not caring". Then, the media lauds Serena for winning while she's fat.
When has Andrew ever been called out on his behavior, at least by the US or UK media? I like him too, and think he's funny, but he's a surly dick on court like every match. Agassi often was too, yet he's Mr. Showman.
I'd be better off not thinking about this stuff.

Andrew is white, male, American... and what Lex said.
I don't think he's that much an asshole anyway. I don't see why tennis players should be like Amy Frazier.

What really galls about Roddick's behaviour is the two-faced stuff...act like a total dickhead on court, then turn around and be all good-humoured and jocular to the media. If you're gonna be a bitch, be a bitch everywhere. Like Hingis.
Plus, yeah, the hypocrisy of never being called on it.

They had some columnist from the Telegraph on the radio yesterday. He's starting some sort of swine flu party in London so everyone can get sick now instead of later because he doesn't believe the medical establishment. First I was shocked that they'd give such a hack airtime on a reputable show...then I was shocked that The Telegraph would have such a hack on their payroll.
