I think Manislas wins that one.

haha, I wish that exo had taken place tonight, in this gale. Porni's puffball serve would probably land BEHIND her.
But it's hilarious they're putting an exo on AA. It makes them look desperate.

They are desperate. I really don't understand this portion of the fortnight at all.
I remember the only year I went late in the tournament -- I watched a lot of juniors (1-Kanepi vs. Safina, Bartoli, Kuznetsova) and then watched Guga/Kafelnikov QF on Ashe -- I'm pretty sure they put Harkleroad's R16 juniors match on Ashe.

Wow, you saw some juniahs who later became contendahs. And you got to see Guga, so it all worked out pretty well for you.
I don't get why the other Slams don't have these scheduling issues and end up w/ Lolita-type juniors or aged former Lolitas on THEIR main stadiums in prime time. Why does it only happen here?

The Aussie has more days like this at night, actually. At least 2. The rest of the world just doesn't notice because it's on at 4am.
All the slams have their scheduling problems.

Bimbledon does the opposite by taking a day off, then having to put a billion matches on at the same time.

I think the French has it just about perfect.
You're right about the Australian mucking things up to squeeze out those end-of-week night sessions.
Obviously we all know Wimbledon is R-tarded.

Bimbeldon is the worst, with Stupid Sunday. Also, grass. And the overbearing sense of self importance. The USO is a close second, with Stupid Saturday, but is otherwise awesome. The other two are more or less on par, winning by virtue of not being fucking terrible. The Aussie has some weak night sessions and RG doesn't have lights. Everybody fails. Just not as badly as Bimbledon.

I think the Aussie is still the best, though. They're the smartest at getting matches over with. It just stinks for the rest of the world that they put every 2nd week match possible at night now.
RG would be next, but they're still kinda messed with the ladies.

USO is the worst. 1R needlessly stretched to three days, Stupid Saturday. TV given as an excuse for absolutely everything.
I think Wimbledon is pretty good apart from the travesty of Stupid Sunday.
AO, who cares, inconsiderate time zones = lose-lose from the rest of the world's perspective. Also, night matches stretching to like 4am (though those would be the only rare WIN for the rest of the world).
Can't really think of any major gripes with the RG scheduling.

"The Champions Invitational returns to the US Open for a fifth year with 16 former Grand Slam tournament champions and finalists. It will be played as doubles only for the first time but will employ the fan-friendly World TeamTennis format for the second consecutive year: Players will be divided into four teams of four players each, with all teams playing two matches from Wednesday, September 8, through Saturday, September 11. For the first time, prize money will be awarded to the competitors based on their team's order of finish."
Has it been cancelled and replaced with random exhibitions like the Pornikova match? There wasn't any invitational match yesterday and there's only 1 match today.

Yeah, I don't get that. One of the USO livestream commentators for the Woz match last night mentioned it because she's participating, but I never even figured out who she was, and she didn't discuss scheduling.
I'm loving this surprise Bopanna / Qureshi run, and having AQ also in the Mixed final is icing on the cake. Next we need some Afghans out there!
The United Nations ambassadors for both India and Pakistan sat side-by-side to watch their match, and will do the same for the final. "Both sitting together, and, you know, clapping for the same cause and wanting us to win, it was a beautiful thing to see," Qureshi said.

TV isn't an excuse anymore. Stupid Saturday was a fine idea in the 80s when television was much different. Now it's antiquated and completely unnecessary since CBS has had the entire Friday window for years now. And they willingly show doubles during it! Also, CBS would probably prefer showing like all 4 SF matches on Friday now, leaving them to show football on Sat and Sun now, with only one final match on those days. Note that if there's any significant rain delay, like there's been the last two years, BOTH finals weren't on CBS anyway! Nothing like local affiliates on Monday telling us that the local news takes precedence over the US Open final, and people searching for the match. Hrmph.

Interesting to note that Federer the Tennis Stylist is #2 on the aces list for this Open, only 2 aces behind famous ace-man Isner, who has 76.

I'm sure there must be at least one contrarian here rooting against Ali, but I think Go Aisam prevails.

Isner matches played: 3 = 25.33/match Federer matches played: 5+ = 14.8/match True, but if you compare sets played, Fed's still acing a lot per set. Not that this is a new thing; I'm just sayin'.

Yeah. Boo to that.
On the bright side, Youzhny and Wawrinka on now! Youzhny's skin has cleared up quite nicely. It's still a bit blotchy, but 100 times better than in the past. I don't really care who wins this one, I like both.

Youzhny is probably the only Russian male player that I hate, so go Stan (plus I have a soft spot for Peter Lundgren)!
But as long as Rafa won't fuck it up, I don't care that much.

But... Youzhny is so inoffensive. He can't help it that he has a permafrown planted on his face. It just kind of happens to some of us.
