That was a pretty decent match. Anticlimatic, though. There wasn't any point at which I thought Rafa was going to lose. Not even at one set all.

WOO! Suck it, menstennisforums.com. Approved. I'm going to go over there shortly and just post "lulz" in about half a dozen threads.

I don't think I ever outright said I didn't think Nadal wouldn't win the USO, but it's not impossible. I'm pretty sure I only said it'd be the hardest for him to win, but who knows. My memory has a way of remembering things in a way that makes me great.
Speaking of being great, while I posted nothing of note, I just spent 5 minutes bouncing around MTF with the biggest shit eating grin on my face ever. Yes, that's right, I'm almost 30.

I'm over 30. I feel like this is just our generation's way of telling people to suck it. Kids born this year will have people suck it IN SPACE.

I met Deivid23 and some of his friends at the tournament in Madrid. They gave me beer. Anyway, we used to troll stupid shit way back when Nadal first came on tour. I refuse to go find any of it, but it probably looked more or less exactly like what we're doing now.

"Juan Martin Del Potro is Tennis' Only Hope" "Poll: Now that tennis is dead, what sport will you watch more of?" "10 Reasons Why Nadal is a Transitional Champ" "Nadal won't go past 10 slams." "Poll: Who is the better hardcourter? Nadal or Murray?" "Poll: Should USO be stripped of Grand Slam Status?" "Poll: Nadal eats children" "Poll: Is $1,700,000 too much when there is World Hunger everywhere?" "Congrats Nadal but he PROVED its easier to win a career slam in this era."
And my personal favorite, partially due to the perfect caps: "Did the RAIN slow the COURT down?"
MTF wins!

That was a fun final. Everything worked out perfectly. Even Parera becoming a bug server.

What's with the Rafa hate over there. Seriously, Rafa deserves nothing but respect. He completely retooled his game win the Open. Bug serve. Flattening out his FH. Not relying on bouncing the ball over your left shoulder. This is coming from the ultimate hater. Rafa put himself into legendary status with this.
Or is it just a bunch of Fedtards. Probably.

I would like to congratulate tennis.com for being the first to throw out the possibility of Rafa wrapping up 4 in a row in Australia by unironically using the term RAFASLAM.

I should also add that the end to the doubles final was fun. That bitch Liezel choked on a very easy putaway volley on MP at 5-4, then Petrova Petrova'd in the tiebreak. And you can't not like Vania. And Shvedova is hot.

Having never actually gone on MTF, I too am confused at the lack of respect for Rafa. You make it sound like they treat him like Wozniacki. What Leena said about him, this is a huge result. Over halfway to Fed's 16 now! If his body holds up, it's LIKELY that Rafa passes him, which is insane.

Twas a good match. But it's not the same schadenfreude as when he loses to Fed.

Over halfway to Fed's 16 now! If his body holds up, it's LIKELY that Rafa passes him, which is insane. This could be an interesting discussion now with Fed in decline, no other players making outstanding progress to challenge this kind of domination. But I really, really don't know what is going to happen now over the next few years. Nadal just cleaning up everything again... I am not so sure about. I can see Fed Serena-ing himself to a few more Slam titles over the next couple of years without him ever getting back to number one. And still think Muzza will get a couple in the bag. Hmph.

A healthy Rafa will get at least two Slams per year for a while yet, probably even three with the ATP as it is. Wouldn't say Fed's done but he's definitely relying on Rafa being injured or out. We've just seen what Rafa does to a "resurgent" Nole. Let us not speak of Murray - that career's trajectory has officially gone from "on course for multiple Slam titles at an early age" to "might eke one out at some point, but no one will ever bet on it". Delpo is a big question mark (though he never looked like he'd be better than Rafa or Roger).
So, yeah, I would say that Rafa cleaning up is the current likelihood unless things change significantly.

As long as Rafa still has Rafa's knees, the odds of him cleaning up for years on end goes down every time he uses them.

Rafa's reliance on his speed is not going to allow him to last for long. We've seen that with too many players of his ilk. But, he may last another 3 years to surpass Roger in slams. Although, I think we're already at the point where you have to consider him along Roger in GOAT status.

MTF is 90% trolls and 12 year olds. Some of them really do believe that he's a total Pushniacki who's been moonballing his way to slams for the past few years. Some are probably just kidding around, but a lot of people on that site don't know anything about tennis and truly don't understand how fucking amazing it is that he's retooled his game the way he has. Nadal is a superhero. That is all.

The way he's retooled his game several times over - by the age of 24! and it's paid off at every Slam! - is even more amazing when you think about the past greats who either tried to retool their game but it wasn't enough to win them the missing Slam, or who just stubbornly refused.
And Rafa looks really comfortable in every iteration of his game, is the amazing thing. If you saw him for the first time at this year's USO you'd never guess that wasn't his original/natural game.
