She had many chances in the second set but kept having bursts of DFs and UEs. Justine was misfiring throughout but as soon as she went ahead in the third it was a formality. I could see her losing to Sweta if she can't get it together.

Hey, Monfees fought back! Goodbye Rezeye. Poor Jamie Hampton! So darn close. But it's being said that she played really well. Considering that last year at this time she was playing qualifying in the Lutz 25K, she has to be pretty psyched about this season despite the loss. Davydenko

De Bakker, what a choke. Marino had a little more trouble with Namigat than I thought. It would not shock me if she beats Franny and then Pironkova/Niculescu to reach the R16. Funky Flo! RIP Ivo the Original Giant, King Kolya and Hanturexia. Sorry Frankie, but

The Justine match ...
She had to pull out all the stops which is rare for a first round. It didn't look like it was going to work at times in that second set. Mirza had a couple chances to really pressure Justine. 2-2 40-15 on her serve she made a DF and a couple forehand errors. Then at 3-4 on Justine's serve she reached breakpoint and Justine tried a drop shot. It was not good. Mirza was there in plenty of time but I guess she only hits the ball at 100 mph and so she hit the fence. Too bad.
But a win is a win. I'd say Justine is about 50% of what she can be. And I don't mean that she's lacking any shots or fitness that she would normally have, just that she's shy on the consistency.
Good match for Mirza. She is a lot better than 150 in the world. I guess she just has to keep the ball in the court a bit more.

"Maybe I was surprised it turned earlier in the fourth (set) like that because the first two games he won. But he was like in the edge. And then I saw he was tanking. (I thought) maybe if I break him early, he would tank and then be ready in the fifth. I was kind of surprised. But I know Thiemo a bit. I know sometime he snap in the head. So this is like a strong belief (for me). It's a weakness for him. So you play with that."
