Iijima on clay against Chan can only end in a gruesome fashion...

J-A-Lee building up a nice lead again. Probably just to waste it once again, when it comes to 5-whatever.

This time she gambled it away even before reaching the decisive stages of the second set...

I see the Pliskova twins played back to back matches on the same court. One of the won and the other lost. I forget which was which.

One of them beat Lurch, the other lost to Ling Zhang - wonder how long it's been since a HKG woman won a Slam match (if ever).
Martic's loss - winning just five games - to Ungur is probably the worst. Diyas being uncompetitive against Kalashnikova is pretty bad too.

Why is Govortsova playing qualies? When did she drop out of top 100?

I think after her Ponte Vedra finalist points came off. She hasn't done shit on tour since then, it was a long time coming.

As did Stephens (who butchered Cohen), Hampton and Watson. The other Pliskova is out. Nara was gifted a set of bicycle wheels by Erakovic.

The two Japanese teenage hopes, Nara and Doi, have hit new low after new low this year (and not just on clay) (not an excuse anyway, Doi first made a splash by qualifying here last year). Our qualifying round, potential debutantes bolded: (1) Pivovarova vs. (21) Stephens(2) Cetkovska vs. Erakovic Ungur vs. (13) Chan (4) Llagostera Vives vs. Dubois Dentoni vs. Bychkova (6) Watson vs. Voegele Kulikova vs. Barthel(8) Lisicki vs. Bogdan(9) Hampton vs. Wozniak (10) Govortsova vs. Karatantcheva Daniilidou vs. Minella Diatchenko vs. Soler EspinosaStephens should make it. All except Bogdan have a fightin' chance. Goooo Thunder, Heather, Vita, Regina, Latisha.

She still needed a WC into USO qualies last year. It was her third - she made Q2 in 2008 (beat Czink, lost to Voegele), Q1 in 2009 (lost to Silva), Q2 in 2010 (beat Laurendon, lost to Ondraskova). Then Q2 at the AO this year (beat Ungur, lost to Gojnea). She's been relatively unhyped so far... I am on course for 9/12 successful predictions

Wow, by tomorrow, no ROUs left in Qs. What is the tennis world coming to, I ask you! WozCan could beat Jamie; she seems to have "found her game" as they say. Brinyihat Mandy song was execrable, but not quite as horrendous as "Honey" for stupid lyrics. I won't remind you of the lyric because it might start the song going through your head, the way the odious "Mandy" is now going through my head.

Silvia Soler Espinosa of all people qualified for the main draw! Has got to be one of the most surprising qualifiers over the recent years...

Silvia Soler Espinosa of all people qualified for the main draw! Has got to be one of the most surprising qualifiers over the recent years... Ahem. I refer you to my predictions upthread 7/12, not bad. Thunder letting me down Stephens, Barthel and Soler Espinosa join Bremond, Begu and Tatishvili as debutantes. Songs called "Honey" in my iTunes: Mariah Carey, Matthew Dear, Ce'Cile, Tori Amos, Move D & Benjamin Brunn, Erykah Badu, Moby & Kelis, Hole.

Ahem. I refer you to my predictions upthread 7/12, not bad. Thunder letting me down Some nice calls. I would've never predicted Daniilidou and Soler Espinosa to make it, albeit their sections were not really packed with anyone dangerous. Llagostera Vives should be top 100, she hardly ever fails to qualify. It took a meltdown from Dubois today, but still. Qualifiers now praying for the Namigata Jackpot...
