The most annoying thing is that people care about Mixed Doubles. It's a freaking exhibition.

Do people really care? You had Jack Sock, Eduardo Schwank, Melanie Oudin, and Gisela Dulko, who is like Graf compared to the rest of them, in the final.
Elena Vesnina flew to Russia two matches away from the title.

Of course hardly anyone cares, and most of the titlists are unknowns. But it still counts as a real Slam title. So from now on, when Oudin is announced at a WTT tie, they will call her a "Grand Slam Champion", the way they call Pornikova a "Former #1 Player", failing to mention in the one case that it was a mixed title, in the other, a NOC doubles ranking. And I think it's pretty cool for this kid who was chewed up and spit out by The Man. I try not to forget that she did the world a nice favor by eliminating Sharapova from the US Open once upon a time, the same reason I will always keep a warm spot in my heart for Flavs.

People care to the point of noting who won mixed doubles. That's too much.
But, I'll take the time to note Elena Bovina: Grand Slam Champion.

With just a 32 draw and match-tiebreak mixed doubles pretty much is a glorified exhibition, which is kinda sad

I think it's pretty cool that it allows a 49-year-old Old Hag, various has-beens, obscure doubles specialists, and hidden worlders to join (or re-enter) the Slam Champion club.

Kimberly Po, Slam champion. I don't know why that name sprung to mind first. Looks like I didn't miss anything, though I'd have liked to see Rafa beating down Roddick. Comments afterwards along the lines of "he's had a good career" were hilariously, and probably unintentionally, patronising

Kimberly Po, Slam champion. OMG. Same. Po Mererli, or something? I remember her from the official Wimbledon 2000 DVD, I think, where she babbles about someone randomly coming up to her and saying she played at Wimbledon today. But that may well be someone totally different.
