I switched away from McHale losing to Erakovic because Jankovic was 2-4 down. It seems that was a mistake.

I enjoyed watching the Fish loss today. Nice to see Falla not blow it.

Oh well. Parmentier escorted herself out of the tournament with a horrid display in the third set. We're having a Niculescu/Wozniacki 3rd round. That's gonna be cringeworthy with 2 girls unable to win a point any other way than tiring out the opponent.

I think the average rally was like 15 shots at least.

Yeah, Isner's not winning this. Go Fat Dave.
At least Karolina's decent 1st serve is back. Otherwise, ugh.

Janie has found herself a feisty player to cheer for. I like what I'm seeing. Great power from both sides, very agressive approach and when focused great accuracy too! She'll probably lose this one, but she'll definitely have twice or trice as many winners as Radwanska in the end.

Yes! Fish out. God that makes me happy. Out out out of the top 10 swiftly please. Now, Isner needs to follow him. LOL @ Young as well (and LOL @ all the commentators treating him as though he's an established top player now). Pung I knew she wouldn't be able to keep up last year's form. She was already showing signs of it wearing off in the last half of 2011. The fall cometh Oprandi d. Fran Well, good for her. And Da Brat will be top 100 now after all these years Hopefully the Saint can keep her steamroller going for one more round. Niculescu holding her seed Beat the Woz now!

Oramechea eventually lost 63 61. The scoreline is not as impressive as her game.

So Ormaechea isn't a clay grinder? Hope for her to be more than just a Pitu then... Dolgopolov is so much fun to watch that it's a shock when you look at the score and he's not even winning

So Ormaechea isn't a clay grinder? Hope for her to be more than just a Pitu then... I don't know how much hard courts suit her right now when majority of the matches she has played so far have been on clay courts, but she isn't a grinder, that's for sure. Her defense is actually quite poor and her movement can be much improved. As I said, she's very agressive off both wings. Lapses of focus in the decisive points made for that one-sided scoreline.

She does look like she's heading towards the top 100 at speed. Results so far indicate she'll be better than any of Janie's recent cohort of Latinas.
Dimitrov's BH is such a weakness.

Really dreadful performance/attitude in the last set from Dimitrov.
Guessing Tomic will come through against Dolgopolov, who's now played b2b five-setters against inferior opposition and is carrying an injury.
Surprised Berdych beat Rochus so easily! Kinda had him tipped for an early exit.

Jean Julien Rojer, formerly from Netherlands Antilles, is now playing for Curacao. I thought the overseas Dutch islands have been officially "added" to the mainland (Kingdom of the)Nethelands?

FALLA

Post by Brinyi on Jan 18, 2012 9:31:01 GMT -5
From The Age:
Isner, who clubbed 43 aces, prevailed 4-6, 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 (7-5) 10-8 after four hours and 48 minutes - but only after French umpire Kader Nouni made a terrible blunder in the penultimate game.
Nalbandian thought he was on the brink of gaining the decisive break when Isner was serving at 8-8, 30-40 in the tense 99-minute fifth set.
A first serve down the middle was called out by the linesman before Nouni overruled, prompting a bemused response from the Argentine. ''Can you be that stupid to do that?'' Nalbandian said after the match. Nalbandian then challenged, but Nouni said it was too late.
Replays showed the ball was a fault. Nalbandian marched to the umpire's chair, gesticulating as the crowd noise intensified.
He called on the match referee Andreas Egli but, after a lengthy exchange with the Swiss, Nalbandian's bid failed. Isner held serve to nudge ahead 9-8 in the decider.
... ''Too late? How many times everybody check the mark and ask for the Hawk-Eye?'' Nalbandian demanded after being denied the challenge replay.
''So somebody from the umpires or ATP, somebody can explain to me this situation.
''I mean, what is this? This is a grand slam … I mean, I don't see the video, but I don't think it was too late to call.
''John say, 'Yeah, ask.' I mean, the Hawk-Eye, and umpire didn't want to.
''It's ridiculous playing this kind of tournament with this kind of umpires.
''What is this? What did the ATP do for this? I didn't understand in that situation, 8-all break point.''

What a travesty Isner-Nalbandian became. I can't understand the decision of the umpire. For one, TERRIBLE OVERRULE! Two, let the guy challenge! It wasn't THAT long between call and challenge and Nalbandian clearly didn't hear the overrule at first. Fuck. That's the worst umpiring since Ted Watts.
The big-serving trio are now in the third round all. Isner, Karlovic and Anderson all loom for high-ranked opponents. I could see Karlovic d. Fed. It's unlikely, but just possible.
Dolgopolov v. Tomic will now be a crazy affair. Wonder if Bernie has another upset in him? I think he just might.
Fish, lol.
