Gooooooo:
Simultaneous DQ for HINDRANCE Sarita
Goooooo.
Actually I think I might end up supporting Azarenka, just because I've had to put up with the other one and her FIGHTING WARRIOR CHAMPION!!!!1111 spirit for longer. Vika is dreadful but I don't have that "oh god not again" feel with her yet.

Vika is dreadful but I don't have that "oh god not again" feel with her yet. Basically, that's it. It feels like 90% of Sharapova's runs over the last couple of years have been pure BS and it needs to be stopped. If it has to be Azza on the other side, then so be it. And if she does make it to the final, I really do want a DOUBLE BAGEL.

She is too heavy, but you'd think the USTA could think of softer ways to convince her to improve her fitness.
Anyway, she looks about to lose to "Top 400" Kontaveit.

You know, if they don't want to give her wild cards into the main draw, fine. But don't tell her "don't play this junior event" when she earned her way in as the #1 entry. WTF.

Post by lexpretend on Sept 7, 2012 12:13:01 GMT -5
Exactly.
And don't go blabbing to the world about her weight. That's a shitty thing for any teenage girl to put up with. Be harsh in private if you have to, if she has a shitty work ethic or whatever, but publicly calling a 16-year-old out for being fat, seriously? And it's not like we haven't seen plenty of young players hit the tour with substandard fitness but manage to work on it to become top players.

I can even understand suggesting that Townsend doesn't play until she gets in shape (and let's be honest, her gut is disgusting, it's pure laziness being like that).
But going public with those comments about a 16-year old, terrible. And Patrick McEnroe of all people, bastion of fitness during his career. As if I needed more reason to hate ESPN.

I don't think what the USTA did was bad at all. It was the reporter who publicized it, I thought. And I disagree that out-of-shape players can reach their potential; Lindsay had by far her best results AFTER losing weight.
Also I think that here in the US, fat is so much the New Normal that it takes strong measures to get kids past that.
Vandeweghe and the other players named were NOT part of the USTA program, as far as I know.
And Brengle is an excellent example of a player who would probably have done a lot better by now if she could have got her ass moving more, off court. She has never been in shape. That's why I stopped rooting for her years ago.

Yes, Lindsay only reached the top levels of the game after starting to get into shape.
And this is why I hate Serena being so ridiculously talented that she can win without any effort most of her career. Kids emulate that attitude. At least she looks outstanding now, but what happened the last decade.

No one here said she is going to reach her potential like that. Lex made the point that many young players started their careers being fat. The whole thing is just embarrassing. Hopefully this won't have any long-term mental impact on the girl.

Ah, yes, "Fatso" Fish! Wll they may have banned him, if they had been financially subsidizing his career. I never thought he looked so fat myself, which just goes to show. I guess men hide it better, since they aren't wearing skintight shirts that reveal the tiniest bulge.
