Too many top players playing both weeks before the AO. It should be obvious not to do that, especially for Aga and Na. Sweta in qualies is so weird ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png) And it took her three sets to beat Foretz ![:-X](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/lipssealed.png) Krumm beat Burdette ![:o](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/shocked.png) Don't know whether this is a harbinger of Krumm improving or Burdette flopping in 2013. This Bouchard isn't going to be good, is she? She lost to an AUS bumpkin. Oh look, Garcia losing from a set up ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png)

Interested to see how Petrova looks.
It does seem kind of crazy for Aga and Na to be playing here.

Eugenie, sheesh! ![](http://www.mysmiley.net/imgs/smile/happy/happy0188.gif) So Falconi alted in and won. Lucic lost in a 3rd-set tb. Easy wins for Keys and Doi. And yeah, Burdette is off to a poor start in 2013. Lost in Q1 in Brisbane, also. Doesn't say much for the US AO MDWC tournament; Burdette reached the final there.

That was indoors, right? Burdette has a big enough game. Maybe she thought the results in 2013 would come as easily as they did last summer and has slacked off. Or maybe she can't adjust to the slow Oz hard courts.

Good point, she'll have to learn to play outside!

Any day that involves straight-set qualifying losses for Oudin, Vandeweghe and Falconi = MY DAY MADE [img src="http://www.planet-smilies.de/finger/finger_053.gif["] [img src="http://www.planet-smilies.de/finger/finger_053.gif["] [img src="http://www.planet-smilies.de/finger/finger_053.gif["] Can't believe Vandeweghe has a Premier final on her record yet is only just clinging on to the top 100. Elsewhere: Mrs. Krumm beat King in three, the ever-unpredictable Keys trashed Larsson, Cepelova might be coming back to life with a win over Hlavackova. Sweta also notched up her first straight-sets win, over Glatch, since...Radwanska at RG last year ![](http://www.mysmiley.net/imgs/smile/happy/happy0188.gif)

Wow. I guess Kimiko was right not to answer our group call for her to retire last year. I wonder why the Oudin/Vandy/Falconi types don't opt for Hobart. ---- Ha, just realized it was Candle Head who took out Oudin. In straight sets! It's a new dawn for Candle Head! ![](http://www.mysmiley.net/imgs/smile/happy/happy0141.gif) Ominous reports about the heat down there ...

Wow, that's odd. maybe she's injured. Who'd go all that way just to pull out, without even waiting for the paycheck?
Meanwhile, back to the old topic of Woz hate: I wonder what it is that these people want from her. To never win another tournament, to lose every single match she plays, or to lose every single POINT she plays? To quit the game immediately, or to actually kill herself -- what would it take to satisfy them?

Thanks, but maybe that response is more sane than some of the more virulent anti-Caroites out there ... Meanwhile, how about that Kimiko, rolling over 4th seed Anna T! ![](http://forums.utassault.net/images/smilies/submitted/martz/2/banana.gif) I think she visited the Fountain of Youth over the off-season.

Right, now win a WTA MD match Kimiko. She got lucky drawing (WC) Dellacqua but even last year she mopped up in ITFs and qualies but went like 2-15 in MD matches. This is a match she really should win. Wozniacki is never going to satisfy me because I dislike her game and her personality. I'm fine with cheering against her 99% of the time and mocking her losses. She'll never be top 3 again, so the ranking stuff that stoked the virulence is gone. I take it we're not mentioning Shitra winning two games off someone about a foot shorter than her? ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png)

Can Shitra just withdraw from the AO and go home?

Ugh, Petra. Even if she surprises everyone and somehow makes the second week of the AO with a kind draw, something has to change.
This is one of those situations where I think it would be better if she went on a losing streak and dropped out of the top 10 quickly because it might force her to do something.

This is the exact point at which I've abandoned the idea that she might ever be a dominant champion. Sophomore slump was natural, but she really needed to do some hard work in the off-season to regain her place. She obviously didn't, so she won't. She'll just be a sporadic Sweta/Peak Pierce type. She'll probably win Wimbledon again in like six years and in between there'll be a whole lotta stupidity and laziness. Meanwhile Azarenka will be racking the Slams up ![::)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/eyesroll.png)

Princess Leelee called it -- again -- by saying something like she'll win more Slams but always have random losses to Gallovits-Hall or something like that.
At this point I would be perfectly content with a Pierce/Sweater career. I'm just hoping she can get past FLUKE status.
Hell - she hasn't even made a second Grand Slam FINAL. She's the only one. Azza has, Li has, Stosur has. SCHIAVONE HAS.

So disappointing to have to give up on her so quickly, but how can you not? She's turned into just another Euro headcase. Like SEWTA doesn't have enough of those already. ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png) It's not too late for another Sweater revival, though! Maybe that's the tiny dot of possibility I'll pin my foolish hopes on this year. I realize this is equivalent to wishing Mauresmo would come back and win RG. But we've had years of knowing Sweater's a nutcase, so I'm tranquil about it now, whereas I'm still pretty crabby about being forced to face the fact (again and again) that Kvitty is, too. ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png)

I mean, I never expected her to win ONE. So, okay, hooray.
But then she kept it up. Actually the YEC and getting so close to #1 was the damn tease. We got accustomed to her success at the mid-level range - and even that was inconsistent. I think we have to understand that a period of spurts of great success was the aberration, and we just have to wait for isolated spurts. Cf. Sweater.
