Right now we are using Proboards v.3 software. Version 4 promises to be out later this summer, and this board will be down for the upgrade for a few days. We will try to let you know when they will upgrade the software (Proboards does it, not us) in advance.
Proboards 4 is rumored to have a lot of features that some of you are used to on other boards (such as mass PMing, PM forwarding, etc). It will also have features that will help us streamline this place, including the addition of a subforum creator and the possibility of locked forums, where we can "hide" forums from view. If this happens, we will be much more willing to create forums for various reasons.
As the feature list for Proboards v.4 shapes up, we will update this thread.

Hahaha, well, v.4 hasn't happened yet, but the new release date is rumored to be in 5 weeks. When it is released/this place is updated, there is supposed to be a banner with a warning. The update can take anywhere from 10 hours to two or three days. Just a forewarning

Thanks, hackie. Hopefully we won't start getting popups with the new version, and we'll just keep the banner ads we have now. Otherwise I might pay for them sometimes again. 5 weeks my ass

"Our new Advanced Moderation Mode will allow you to mass delete, lock, sticky, or move threads on a board"
"When moving a message, you will be able to choose whether or not to leave a "Moved: ..." message on the board the topic was moved from."
"Option to enable a "quick reply" box at the end of threads."
hallelujah!

I've been seriously tempted to delete some of our 400 members who have never posted and quite obviously are never going to. But... the realization that some people like to lurk and having them registered isn't going to hurt anything has kept me from doing so

If they give us all these new features then try to make us a pay board I will go APE shit So would most of their other board owners. They seem to be opening new servers everyday, so it seems they aren't going that direction. If only vBulletin software was free...

If it was, we could host our own board... but I'll be damned if I"m paying to do that

The thing is, I don't think that membership fees would make any sense on this board like they did on WX. Not that they were a grand idea on WX, but on that board you get one login and that's it for every single board. On proboards you have to sign up for each one. I could see them charging board owners, but really, they cover us enough with ads. Let's just hope that the popups don't come back

I should probably point out that if this is done before the 1st of January, it's unlikely that I will be here. So, if there is any confusion with new features or blah, you're on your own until then, Hackie. I'm sure it will be fine, but I thought you should know. My mom doesn't have internew

From: support.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=v4&action=display&n=1&thread=1113854264Hello everyone,
As you know, I have set the official release date for Version 4 to be April 30th. I would like to lay out an unofficial schedule for how this upgrade will be handled to ensure the smoothest possible transition for everyone.
April 30th - This support forum will be brought down for the upgrade. Expected downtime is approximately 8 to 12 hours. After the upgrade, we will be testing all of the features on here to ensure that there are no problems. This will be the largest test of the system since the Open Beta started. While it is good that many people have tested the system in the beta, I feel that it would be good for us to test it in this live environment where hundreds, or thousands, of simultaneous users are on the system using it.
May 2nd - Assuming that no major problems occurred with the upgrade of the support forum, on May 2nd we will begin upgrading servers to version 4. We will upgrade in sequential order, starting with server 1. Downtime for each server can be as low as 10 hours and as high as 24 hours. I will be doing, at least at the start, 4 servers a day. All data on the servers will be backed in case of any problems. In the event that any server has major problems, we will revert that server back to v3 until such time that we can fix the problem and continue the v4 upgrade. Even though I anticipate that there will not be problems, we're just going to make sure we don't have any
I estimate that by May 7th we will have all servers upgraded to v4, but it is completely possible that all servers may be completed before this date.
Each server will have a message posted at the top of the forum at least 24 hours before it is brought down for the upgrade, so you will have advance notice that your forum will be down.

support.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=v4&action=display&n=1&thread=1113854264Hello everyone,
Now that v4 has been released to the support forum, I can give a better estimate of exactly when all of the servers servers will be updated.
The reason for upgrading the support forum before other boards, as previously stated, is to make sure that everything will be 100% smooth when it comes to upgrading your boards to version 4. This has given us an opportunity to stress test version 4 and find new bugs which the beta testers have not found.
Over the last 24 hours many new bugs have cropped up that I am currently working on getting rid of. I estimate that it will take between 24 and 48 hours to handle all of these bugs. I do not plan on releasing version 4 to all servers until I am confident that all the bugs that have been found have been smashed. If this means waiting an extra day or two for other servers to get v4, then that is what will happen.
My current goal is to have all the bugs out of v4 by the 4th of this month. After that time I will begin upgrading servers, doing between 5 and 10 per day. I am looking to make sure this transition is as smooth as possible for everyone, so just sit back and relax, you all will get v4 soon

BTW, I had to go through a bunch of hoops to sign into the Support board, and I've had an account there for well over a year. Just be warned that you may have to jump through similiar hoops when our board is converted.

hmmm.. what do you mean by hoops?
Okay, I'll make note of this and make ap oint of checking the board email regularly following the swtich.

support.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=v4&action=display&n=1&thread=1113854264Hello everyone,
Alright, now that a few days have gone by, and many tireless nights of work, I believe I can set a final schedule for the release of v4. We will begin rollouts to all servers beginning on Monday the 9th, hopefully ending before the 13th (which is the day of ProBoards meet).
Each day has brought some new bugs that have had to be fixed, and I am confident that there are very few left to be found now. Now all that needs to be done is getting those last bugs out, which will still take a couple more days. By the 9th we should have all the kinks 100% worked out.

We're still in v3 so there aren't any bugs in this version (well, there shouldn't be). But apparently he's started updating a few servers and run into all these little problems.
The support board is in v4 if you'd like to know how it looks and acts.

I'm a bit skeptical as well, but since they updated the support forum and Patrick himself has been the one dishing out dates, I'm not quite so hasty to call shenanigans Now, if only he had realized all these stupid bugs existed in the two or so years it took him to create it...but what do you want from someone who's still in college?
