Goerges and MLDB staged quite the battle, with JG squeaking by in a tight 3rd set tb. That's not so surprising, though; nor was Lucic's beatdown of Oudin in Oudin's first match back since her extreme health issue. But Diyas defeating Giorgi? Now that was a surprise. But at least Giorgi's dad won't have to worry about debt collectors hounding him in Miami, since they can now leave the country.

The Lipton. I honestly don't know what to expect. The tournament should be interesting! Good to see Vekic win even if it's at the cost of Mrs. Krumm.

I agree -- felt the same way when she took out Sweater today, too.
Just saw the Serena-Shved tb -- not the greatest tennis but some prime choking from Shved -- and of course the obligatory super serves from Serena just when needed. It was fun to be rooting for Serena for once! It just won't do for her to be losing her first match here.

MIAMI: Bernard Tomic has suffered the fastest defeat in ATP history, crashing out of the Miami Masters hardcourt event in his first match following hip surgery in January. The world No.74 lost 6-0 6-1 to Finland's Jarkko Nieminen in a record 28 minutes, 20 seconds, the shortest ATP Tour match ever recorded, beating the old mark by a mere minute. Tomic was unruffled by the defeat, in which he lost the first nine games. "This was the first match back after the operation. It's all part of the rehabilitation process," Tomic said. Advertisement "I'm not disappointed. I just have to keep working to improve my game." etc etc

28 minutes! I always root for Serena to win now! She's the best. On courr anyway. And I'd like her to have a great(er) record. Too bad Davis got hammered by BAG. But great to see Vekic get another win!

Tina not wasting her wildcard! WTHIGOW with Anduh? He's not been the same since the back surgery. Lendl gone now. Not sure if it's just that he's satisfied with winning Wimbledon. Dropping a set to Ebden. Lulz. Oh and JaJa had to lose in a third set tb. Drama involved I assume! Also interesting to see Bouchard stopped by Svitolina.

Andy's not getting back to form too well, and right when I started liking him! Serena's playing very poorly, Del Potro needs surgery on the OTHER wrist and will be out probably all year, Haas is out with a bad shoulder for who knows how long, Hingis finally had a good win then had to w/d in dubs due to a sick partner -- it's an odd Lipton so far.

I had no idea Hingis was still playing.
So many bad calls... Almagro got 2 in a row against him in the last game, thankfully he still had challenges left.

This is still happening in the era of Hawkeye? Shameful.
Serena is playing terribly. I expect the same from Rafa (see: Indian Wells).
Hingis returned to Tour last week in Indian Wells. She and Lisicki lost their opening match.

Haha! That was a hilarious result to see - especially since it was against Sloane. Apparently, Woz won 6-1, 6-0 with 6 winners and 8 unforced errors.

I have not been anti-Sloane before now, but I can't stand players who seem to care less than the fans do about their matches. Although admittedly it took me a long time to turn against Sweater.
As for today, anyone know if Serena's finally coming to life, or did Coco just hand it to her Lucic-style?

Hingis finally had a good win then had to w/d in dubs due to a sick partner Okay, apparently this was wrong, because they played again today and won handily. Huh? That's what I get for believing what I read on Twitter. Probably it was their opponents who w/d.

Catching the end of this Murray-Tsonga match and I have to say Andy's tennis problems seem to be 100% over, even if his body is still causing some problems. The commentators remarked that these two guys each reached their first Slam final in the same year, 2008. That's the last time they had anything tennis-recordwise in common, that's for sure. Sadly, Fit Dave fell by the wayside today.

Hingis-Lisicki take advantage of the 3rd set supertiebreak thing and win again. Good team here! I guess Hingis must have put in some practice in the past months.
Okay, I have to log off to get ready for my trip to England. it'll be interesting to see if this board is still here when I get back in 2 weeks. Au revoir, mes amis!

You probably thought they withdrew because Lisicki withdrew from singles with the flu.
Kvitova losing to Sharapova was so expected. Typically useless from her.
Anduh-Nole should be interesting.

Thanks, Ali! We'll be down in the SW, in Devon (on Dartmoor!) for a couple of days, but mostly in Cornwall. We used to go every year, but haven't been back there since 2006. So I'm nervous about my husband re-learning to drive (and shift gears!) on the left side, but mostly excited to get back one more time. All thanks to good old Frequent Flyer points!
