LOL @ Court 1. Phillipe Chatrier has some fun matches. Bepa willl self-destruct and lose in an hour. Roger will cruise in straights. Momo will be tested. Fabrice will win an epic struggle. Why are Venus and Patty missing from the "partial" schedule? I mean where could they possibly be accomodated? Court 1? LOL [ ]

"I had an MRI scan on my ankle on Friday and phoned the French Federation to ask if I could play on Monday or Tuesday instead but they replied I was playing the fourth match on Sunday. It did not make me feel great at all. Obviously they want to sell tickets and only care about their own players."

"I like the idea of playing on a Sunday but I had asked not to play today, I was preparing for a Monday start. It's tricky because you play and then you have to stop for a few days.' -- This Sunday business is not going over very well!

I like the Sunday start...
Takes away some of the 1st round drubbings with the high seeds and hopefully a better day of matches on Tuesday.

Why did Henman even get a match today.
I can understand Wimbledon giving him the special attention, but why must other countries care. Sigh.

Sharapova This caused a brouhaha on wtaworld, but no one asked the obvious question: what does "having an MRI scan" have to do with when a player should start?? Maria doesn't even mention the results of the scan, which she would for sure if there was some bad news on it. There is no reason that scan-having in itself should affect the schedule of a Grand Slam (allowing of course for the Saint Kim in Australia / Agassi in the US / Frenchies in France Exceptions).

I don't like it when players "whine", but I think Sharapova complain has some validity. There's only a couple of players who start Sunday, giving a Monday to her wouldn't have been a privilege. Most players in her half do play Monday. Why not giving her a Monday start if she asks for it?

Because probably NO marquee players probably wanted to play on Sunday. And Maria: yes, of course they want to sell tickets, duh. It's a business, not a charity.

I saw the third set of the Sharapova match and the stadium was quite empty... So even if a non-interesting match would have replaced it, I doubt it would have made much of a difference.
And if no player wants to play Sunday, it says something about whether a Sunday start is a good thing or not.

I don't get why players are bitching about starting today...
The extra day of rest can only do good.
