Lindsay's not gonna lose this but I won't blame Errani. She did what she could.

This has got to be the best first day of the AO ever for the women with these two drama-filled matches alone.
Can you imagine if they happened simultaneously? At least God isn't that cruel to us.

6-5.
Lindsay's stats are actually not horrible. Errani has great stats, probably inflated by Lindsay's total lack of movement.

Errani has played quite well. She's ran down a lot of tough balls, and is trying to take the offense to Lindsay. Most early round scrubs don't do that.

6-5. Lindsay's stats are actually not horrible. Errani has great stats, probably inflated by Lindsay's total lack of movement. This has got to be the match of Errani's life. She's got such spunk and can hit well for someone so small. Even a decent first serve. 15-30. Ugh. Just end this thing! You've got a kid to breast feed.

Now at least we have an excuse for our upcoming loss to Maria.

You know, I think Lindsay can beat Maria if she gets the night match. Maria doesn't do what Errani does, she doesn't get everything back.
OH THANK GOD. I love this chick Lindsay Davenport.

But that Maria match could get very, very ugly.

Hum this match is meaningless regarding Lindsay's chances against Shara and for the rest of the tournament. I don't think she has a shot at the title, but not because of today.

You know, I think Lindsay can beat Maria if she gets the night match. Maria doesn't do what Errani does, she doesn't get everything back. Lindsay wasn't going for the lines at all in the third set. She was hitting most of her shots right down the middle of the court. She can't do that against Maria.

And was able to consistently hit the ball early and deep. I wouldn't be upset with this close match, Leach fans. She didn't play badly. It's unlikely she beats Maria, but I'm sure it will be a tight match in the least.

She was hitting most of her shots right down the middle of the court. She can't do that against Maria. She won't. I agree that this match says nothing about how she'll down against Pova. She'll go for her shots more, and her serves more, especially if the conditions are cooler and less windy and at night. She's not going to play as tentatively. New opponent, new ballgame. Bring it, Maria.

Amelie looks a lot skinnier.
She used to be muscular, her arms are normal now.
It appears she hasn't lost that ugly stand far behind the baseline and hit nothing but loopy crap game, though.

Amelie looks a lot skinnier. She used to be muscular, her arms are normal now. It appears she hasn't lost that ugly stand far behind the baseline and hit nothing but loopy crap game, though. I wonder what changed after 1999 to make her so much less aggressive and offensive minded? I've always thought Amelie is the most boring of the top players to watch during the early rounds, even when she won her Slams. So passive.

Post by GoDom on Jan 14, 2008 0:42:30 GMT -5
I am 100% convinced that Amelie could have achieved a lot more if she had not become this passive moonballer with horrible forehand. Her two Slams wins had some flukey elements. She won Wimbledon on pure will and volley skill and because her forehand isn't so glaringly bad on grass.
It has to be the fault of Loic Kurt-o. What an idiot.

Post by sasha on Jan 14, 2008 0:45:28 GMT -5
The few times Amelie would be aggressive, she's a true joy to watch. I recall that most the year she won YEC.
Amelie looks weaker, and her shots are definitely weaker. She's trying to push Poutchek off the baseline and can't even do it... and Poutschek has been nothing but a pusher the handful of games I've watched.

But I actually saw pics of Momo practicing in which she looked muscular to me. I don't know if she's lost some overall strength, but certainly the weakness of her shots comes from the way she's hitting them and not the bulk on her arms.
And a pusher her entire life.

Part of me wants Nikolay to lose so Misha can get a bye into the quarters. But most of me is smart enough to realize that Misha would choke an easy draw. I think either Russian, or Murray if he's in that quarter, will challenge and quite possibly upset Nadal in the semis.

The bottom half is set up perfectly for Roddick, unfortunately. Unless Wussquet makes a run, which I'm not holding my breath on.
