Yep, I jinxed it here: This match is really well-played. At least the last couple of sets.

Apparently Marcos' memo did not translate very well in to greek. It seems that "end Agassi's legacy" was translated to "extend Agassi's legacy!"
Grar.

This really sucks.
The only way to absolve this is if Stefanie cheats on Andre right now.

After the moment of silence, the children's choir performed "God Bless America" as the crowd grew silent. The volume was low, however, prompting several fans to shout "Can't hear!" while others yelled back at them, "Shut up!"
What a seamless, touching ceremony as only the US Open can do.

lol! A delightful US Open moment Part 2: Baghdatis' very first serve of the second-round encounter was a fault, eliciting hoots from the stands. Moments later, someone in the upper deck yelled: "Andre, this is your house! And it's all of us against him!"

Why couldn't Andre announce his retirement when he's actually finished. Having crowd support and getting attention is one thing, but this is ridiculous.

Meh, they could have been a lot worse.
Also, instant replay also helps. Now the crowd knows when they should STFU about "bad calls" that weren't.

At least he didn't become an absolutely pitiful shadow of his formal self and then go on a year long wildcard tour of suckage. When you think about it, we actually have much to be grateful of here.

Yes, thanks Mr. Chang.
But, Andre was just about as bad by using his "retirement" to suck money out of tournies that could give him appearance fees.

And it's weird what a couple degrees and a full-time job will do for a person; this would have sent me into catatonia for weeks seven years ago. As, you know, it did. I'm so old and normal now. I'm not the only one. That's good to know. This match was on at 4:30 am local time and I didn't even wake up to watch it (as was the norm back in the day). I checked the result, got pissed and that's it. Who knew there was life beyond living vicariously through your fave's results?

Having said that, Tina is just annoying me. Did she come back for the crap she's been pulling? She's really dropped off since RG (and her performance at RG wasn't that hot once she got into that mess with Peer), bar the win over Sveta in Montreal. I didn't watch the match so can't really comment. I read on WTA World that Tina was passive, the movement was on and off and the forehand was shaky. Not very promising. This is the same Razzano who couldn't shake off Lindsay Davenport at RG last year, right? Ugh.
Oh well, I get more time to study for my exams now. Yay.

Andre Ali, it was sad and annoying to watch Martina. I just wonder if the intensity she's had to keep up all year finally ran out, like the air out of a balloon. Maybe she just needs to rest her brain & her body for a couple weeks to get recharged. She needs to get back to where the Tour seemed challenging and fun again, instead of scary and tiring.

Left to rethink the future of her second-winded career choice after making a celebrated return to tour play in January, the eighth-seeded Swiss was non-committal following the match, waiting for a more lucid moment before making a decision on her future.
“This is probably not the best day to ask,” said Hingis, the 1997 US Open women’s champion, after suffering her earliest exit ever in New York, dropping her career record in New York to 41-8.
“I mean, you can't just be down on yourself all the way because you lose a match here at the US Open. I have my people around me, my support system, so we just definitely have to step back and see what we'll do in the next days, next weeks, and next months.”

I think it's fair to say her best chances are at AO and RG, more so than Wimbledon and the US Open, but losing the way she has in the last 2 Slams is disappointing. I agree with Janie that maybe it's all getting to her right now. Still, 3 Tier One finals in her first year back isn't too shabby at all. She usually does well in the fall events, but I hope she takes a long-ish break (oh but wait, she has to go to India and Korea for those rinky-dinky events). She did have a bunch of weeks off after Wimbledon. Sigh. I just hope she isn't trashed by everyone at the YEC, if she even qualifies.

Though, after scraping past Peng and then losing to Razzano easily, one wonders whether she'll manage to win those two events. I'll be getting coverage of India, so I can do live scoring/match reports for you guys. Hope I have good stuff to report.

I hate to bring up the "OMG Martina is retiring again!" crap... but, it just gets worse every time I see her. She keeps turning more and more into 2002 Martina. And being #1 and winning slams seems to grow further away.

It was like a 75K, but with Martina. She really shouldn't have any issues winning that.
