£3 tickets! -- I should be in Mons! from the Telegraph... Exhausted Murray back to basics By Mark Hodgkinson in Mons (Filed: 05/10/2005) There is a centuries-old tradition in Mons, this otherwise unassuming and understated Belgian town, that visitors must seek out the iron monkey in the main square and gently rub its bald head if they are to be rewarded with good fortune during their stay here. Andy Murray will contest his first match as a top-100 player in Mons today but, in truth, it is sleep that he needs, not luck. Murray arrived in Belgium yesterday, having stayed overnight in a London hotel after flying back from Bangkok, and he was still wiping the sleep from his eyes as he began a practice session on the indoor hard court with his coach, Mark Petchey. But Murray knows how to be professional. And the banter between the two of them, the in-jokes in between the exchange of forehands and backhands, ensured that the young Scot was soon energised and hitting with plenty of menace. The 18-year-old is a morning person anyway, but on this occasion he will be incredibly grateful for his late start this afternoon for his opening round against Ivo Heuberger, Switzerland's world No 192. Murray will be coping with jet lag, mental fatigue and the thought that, just three days after playing Roger Federer in his first ATP Tour final in Bangkok, he will now be appearing on the Challenger circuit, the level below the full Tour, against an opponent who is barely a household name around his own kitchen table. And Mons is far from the glamour, the noise and the general mayhem of Bangkok and its Tour event last week. It is unlikely that there will be a Miss Universe, or a Mons equivalent with a sash and a smile, to offer her congratulations if he defeats Heuberger today or progresses to the final at the weekend. Though Mons is well known for the battles that took place here during the First World War, the town and its attractions in 2005 barely merit more than a few short paragraphs in an extensive 300-page guide book on Belgium. From Federer to this. The venue is a silver-grey hangar surrounded by car parks and out-of-town shopping. To give an idea of the facilities, the hangar was used recently to exhibit furniture. Tickets for today's session will cost less than £3, and the maximum capacity in the temporary stands is no more than 3,000. There were fewer than 50 spectators at some of yesterday's matches. So it is a warm welcome back to the Challenger Tour for Murray. This is the tennis sub-world, with his ranking now up to world No 72, which will hopefully soon be in the past for him. Federer took his unbeaten run to 31 matches by defeating Murray. Heuberger is probably better known for having once having dated Martina Hingis, the former women's world No 1, than for any of his own achievements on a tennis court - he has not advanced beyond the second round of any tournament since February. But Murray is not one for complacency. "Heuberger is an attacking player," Petchey said. "The thing is just how Andy feels after his long journey out here. We've just go to take it week by week. He achieved his aim for the season last week by breaking into the top 100, so everything from now on is a bonus." Meanwhile, Tim Henman has accepted the offer of a wild card for Vienna next week. The British No 1 has not played since his opening-round defeat at the US Open in August as he has been hampered by stiffness in his back, and he has won just one match since Wimbledon. The International Tennis Federation, who organise the four grand slam tournaments and the Davis Cup in the men's game, have ann-ounced that they will manage and enforce the anti-doping procedures at ATP Tour events from next year.

The most amazing thing to me about that is that they sent a reporter to Mons!

They are busy trying to convince the world he's the next coming of Federer. I'm not surprised they are following him to the ends of the earth

See?? Andy Murray is good for something. Otherwise, the world would never know about the iron monkey.

Olivier and X-man said they patched things up but why don't they play doubles here to show their unity?
