Slumping Massu.
Susan from vamosrafael.com is posting stuff on the messageboard about her trip... she's in indian wells right now, and I think she gets media access blah (she has in the past... I'm not sure why, but she does write sometimes, for somebody or other. I never asked for the details), but might be mistaken.
I didn't see a match report from her yet. She just talked about seeing him in practice and having her "fan moment", heh. If she puts up anything good I'll move it over here.

I think they will Verkerk is playing like crap That would help. They've beaten some good teams this year, and really, that loss to Novak and Stepanek was nothing to complain about.... but losing here wouldn't be quite so nice! I'm not sure if you got my final words on WX or not. I wrote them on the other thread. I won't go back so long as V has buttons... and I doubt they will take them away, so... it's too bad, because I liked a few of the people over there... but life goes on. Hopefully you and others will come say hi from time to time at least. Poor RF... he was so NOT in the mood for this today

The entire board could leave (hypothetically speaking here) and she still would not resign, she is just that much of a stubborn bitch. Sad. It's funny... the only people supporting her, aside from MC, are the people that I think are fucking tools anyways.... funny how that seems to work out

I had issues with her right from the start, mainly because she alwyas tried to irk me over Marat. We agreed that we would ignore eachother's posts but that didn't stop her linking to my posts aftera while

I'm not sure what he's going to do, but I tried to encourage him to go back to the Safin thread, since he still likes most people in there

I don't think I've ever seen her flat out say "I fucked up", despite the fact that she has. OVER and OVER again. It takes a big person to admit they were wrong, and V is very very wee.

From Estoril site
Nadal Withdraws From Quarterfinal
Spanish teenager Rafael Nadal has withdrawn from his Estoril Open quarterfinal against Irakli Labadze with an ankle injury. The 17-year-old first felt the pain during his first round victory over Goran Ivanisevic at the Estadio Nacional on Wednesday and needed further treatment following his three-set win against Richard Gasquet on Thursday.
Nadal underwent x-rays at the CUF Hospital in Lisbon on Friday morning, and the results revealed a small fracture in his left ankle.
"This morning I had an electromagnetic scan and some x-rays to see what I had in my left ankle and it seems to be a small fracture," said the Spaniard. "I had some ice and all the treatments that I could do but still I was in a lot of pain."
He added: "I'm very sad because this is a beautiful tournament. I was in the quarterfinals and wanted to continue, but these things happen. Now I'm going to Barcelona in order to find out exactly what I have in my left ankle. I still don't know if I have to reschedule my calendar. I really hope not."

the poor Rafa looks so disappointed... he did point out that the Olympics only come once every 4 years... a pity! why does this have to happen now?? ay ay ay ay ay! how did he fracture that ankle anyway? guess Rafa gets a bit overexcited...

I'm under the impression that his inury was a result of overuse, but might be mistaken The fact that he played a match on it certainly didn't help matters

He likely has another two olympics in him, so it's not the end of the world

I'm sure playing on that ankle only harmed him... oh well, the enthusiasm of youth. I sure hope Rafa makes it to TO! I'm dying to see the growing guy!! Plus it w be cool to hablar espanol o mallorquin with him since his ingles is next to nonexistent!

www.sportsmediainc.com/tennisweek/index.cfm?func=showarticle&newsid=11254&bannerregion=Hewitt: Nadal Is the Real DealBy Adrianna Outlaw 07/29/2004 Lleyton Hewitt glanced across the net, watched the baby-faced teenager bouncing around with all the excited exuberance of a school kid on the first day of summer vacation and knew he was in for a long day at work. Before the first shot was even struck in yesterday's Tennis Masters Series-Canada match, Rafael Nadal had already accomplished the unthinkable — exuding such eager enthusiasm to play, the 18-year-old Spaniard made the fiery, fist-pumping Hewitt look slightly subdued by comparison. Making Hewitt look mellow is as about as easy as silencing thunder. But Nadal, who was playing only his second hard-court match since upsetting top-ranked Roger Federer, 6-3, 6-3, in the third round of the Nasdaq-100 Open was a whirlwind of energy from the outset. Sprinting to the baseline to start the warm-up, Nadal proceeded to steamroll the former No.1 , 6-1, in the opening set before the Wimbledon winner rallied for a 1-6, 6-4, 6-2 victory. Swiftly sidestepping to his left, Nadal loaded up on his lethal lefty forehand with a back swing that loops head-high and unleashed biting blasts to all areas of the court. As Nadal rolled through the first set, Hewitt was often reduced to desperate dashes to simply stay in rallies. "I was just trying to hang in there more than anything," Hewitt said. "I didn't feel like I played great first set. Obviously, I'm not that old, but he's a lot younger. He's bouncing around and he wants to get off to a good start. He shows you that energy out there. Honestly, his game was very explosive from the start." The muscular Nadal has a boxer's body and slugs shots in crushing combinations. Unlike some other Spaniards whose games often look lost in the translation from clay to hard court, Nadal adjusts his court positioning to accommodate the faster pace of play and generates remarkable racquet-head speed on his powerful forehand that he can flatten out or hit with topspin. Crouching low to hit his two-handed backhand, Nadal turns his hips and shoulders into that shot and tends to hit it flatter than his forehand. Hewitt's experience paid off in the second set as he survived a grueling 10th game to break and even the match at one set apiece. He left the court with a win and respect for Nadal's future. "He is an extremely good player, he's obviously a well-developed kid for 18," Hewitt said. "He's a big solid boy out there he moves extremely well. He's hungry. He wants to win. He wants to beat the best players in the world and he's already beaten Moya and Costa and these guys on clay — the best players in the world on clay — he can also play on hard court as well. He's not a one-dimensional clay-court specialist, he can play very well on this surface."
