I think it's time that Rainer has a thread here! I changed the title of the thread so it's easier to talk everything about Rainer in this thread. I remembered (believe so) Layla talked about Rainer practiced Tae Kwon Do and tonight's match (TMS Cincinnati vs Fish) Cliff mentioned it too. That's why his fitness level is so high! So here comes the title! Of course, it has nothing to do with me practicing TKD too ;D ;D

The best way to prepare a fresh fish is to gut and clean, add a dash of salt and steam. Then dip in special soy sauce (the kind just for eating fish) and enjoy! ;D ;D Go Rainer

I find it highly distressing that you call this a "Rainer Schuettler Cheering Thread" and have yet to post any hot pictures to cheer me up.

I just posted in the whiners and losers (OTR) thread that I wish to have a Rainer's Forum so I can talk something about Rainer's match which is not too cheerful but have no idea where to post!
May be I just change the heading. Let me think about a better one. Need to eat something before that cause I need the energy!

A tidbit from PMac (he was actually very impressed) about Rainer is his yearend ranking is on the rise 9 years in a roll. Even it's not yet the end of the nineth year, there is no way his ranking this year will be lower than last year. This shows the consistency of Rainer.

I am not sure whether it's because this is the third TMS SFs he played this year and lost the previous 2, he was a bit tight. He played pretty well during the games but tightened up and played a few loose points to lost both TBs. On the contrary, Fish played great points when he's in trouble. Like saving a few break points and set points with ace especially the first 2 bps. He was serving really bad, around 30% first serve but managed 2 aces. The third bp also a very good first serve that Rainer could not return. By the time Fish got to the first set TB, he was so confident that Rainer not likely to break him anymore. (btw, Fish only lost 2 service games in his opening match vs Philippoussis so far in this tournament).
Not able to break Fish's serve 6 times and also the fans were really annoying, Rainer rattled a bit in the first set tie break and UEs cost him the set.

Talk about annoying crowd! A few obnoxious spectators kept making noise between 1st and 2nd serve. Rainer gestured for them (or to the umpire) to keep quiet. And Cliffy said that's not very endearing to the crowd. It doesn't matter what Rainer do, the crowd will be annoying anyway. He is absolutely right to request those people kept quiet especially they were not disturbing Fish like that during Fish service games. Probably Rainer is not very used to playing against players in home turf in big matches. His most important matches, final in AO vs Agassi, SF in Indian Wells vs Guga and SF in Canada vs Nalbandian, are not against home country players until tonight vs Fish in Cincinnati.

Have a good rest and practice in next week and go the distance in USO! Rainer's best showing in USO is in 2000 reaching R32 losing the HT Lee who had an amazing run that year.

interview transcript from official site Rainer Schuettler RAINER SCHUETTLER/ Robby Ginepri 6-2, 6-3 MODERATOR: Okay. Rainer advances to his third Tennis Masters Series semifinal this season, and he improves to 18 and 6 in Tennis Masters tournaments this year. Okay. Questions. Q. It was great, just advancing this far is certainly nothing new for you this year. Be nice to finish one of these tournaments off with a win? RAINER SCHUETTLER: Definitely. I think today I played pretty well, and I was surprised because after the first round, I had problems with my back, so I thought the tournament is over already, and then I had a tough match against Nieminen, the Finnish guy, and I was really surprised that I won there, and then every day it got better and today - I started with some problems, but I played pretty good tennis today, and I didn't miss a lot of balls. And he had one break point, I made an ace. So I was very consistent, and I was very happy with my whole game. Q. What type of problems with your back are you having? RAINER SCHUETTLER: I have it sometimes. It's like joints, when they are blocked, and the muscle, I don't know how to explain it in English, but the muscle gets stiff and there is no movement at all, so, but I have it sometimes and I'm a little bit tired, so I'll take next week off definitely, and then be fit for the Open. take good care Rainer Q. How important is it for you to not just get to the semifinals, but get to the finals and win this tournament? RAINER SCHUETTLER: Very important. I never - I never played a final in a Masters Series event, so I definitely want to go further, and I'm looking forward to the match tomorrow. I mean today I - as I said, I was very happy with my whole match, with my game. Everything was pretty good, so I'm looking forward to the match tomorrow. I hate Fish Q. Can you talk a little bit about either Mardy or David? RAINER SCHUETTLER: Yeah. They have a different kind of game. I lost last week in Montreal to David Nalbandian, and he's a very, very solid player. I mean everything, from the baseline, he can play from the baseline. He plays at the net. Mardy is a little bit different. He tries to, yeah, to go a lot to the net with a big serve, to take the balls early, and yeah, he's playing more aggressive than David, but he's making more winners, but also more errors, so it's a completely different kind of game. Q. You're the first German to reach the semis here since '95. Does that mean anything to you? RAINER SCHUETTLER: Of course. I'm happy that I'm in the semis, but actually it really doesn't matter to me. I mean I try to play good tennis, and I hope that I can reach the final here, so then I want to see the statistics when the last German reached the final. MODERATOR: Becker. Yeah. '85 when he won it. RAINER SCHUETTLER: '85. So...

Oh, really, asking a bunch of wankers to shut up is not endearing to the crowd? Of course, he should thank them for being so kind to him. Grrrrr! I can't stand it when people can't behave at tennis matches.

Arthurs Serves No Match for Schuettler by Elizabeth Schatz Tuesday, August 26, 2003
After a hiccup in the first set, German Rainer Schuettler defeated Australian Wayne Arthurs 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 to advance to the second round of the US Open.
It was a tale of two serves, with eighth-seed Schuettler struggling to get his first one in and the 6'3" southpaw Arthurs sending bombs out wide, hardly within reach for the 5'11" German. Arthurs ended the match with 20 aces to Schuettler's 7.
Schuettler spent much of the first set shifting from side-to-side on the base line as Arthurs' serves left little time for rallies. After the 32-year-old Aussie got a break in the fifth game and held the next game with a crowd-pleasing 135 mph serve, a group of supporters carrying an inflatable kangaroo began singing from the stands (Could it soon be de rigueur for every player to have a colorful, wig-wearing posse?)
Schuettler, 27, who had his best Grand Slam finish at the Australian Open this year, where he lost in the finals to Andre Agassi, proved his mettle on the hard court as he beefed up his serve and utilized a poised backhand to take back the match. In the second set, Arthurs' unforced errors began to catch up with him, virtually canceling out his impressive serving. Schuettler displayed his own versatility, deftly serving and volleying in the last game to win the set 6-3.
With Schuettler serving at 4-3 in the fourth set, Arthurs wasted a game point to get back on serve and launched a ball into the crowd. It was the third time he did that; the first time was on purpose.
Persistent and hard-working, both players have improved their ranking each year for the past several - Schuettler for eight, Arthurs for six. In 2002, the Australian became the first player since Pete Sampras in 1995 to lead the ATP in four service categories.
After his Australian Open final, Schuettler defeated American Andy Roddick to reach the semifinals of Indian Wells and was equally dangerous on clay, getting to the quarterfinals of Munich and Rome.
After winning his match against Arthurs, Schuettler was treated to his own serenade from the fickle Aussie fans, who belted out, "We love you, Rainer, oh, yes we do."

What Rainer said in Brazil Open! Schuettler: "The matches were not easy. I just took almost all the chances I had but yesterday and today the games were definitely not as easy as they look." How modest of you to say that when your opponents only won 2 and 1 game(s) from you "I am playing well and confidently. I like to play here since it is hot and I like to play with these conditions" you're such a work horse"I was not specially tired after the Open and was ready to play on Monday since I got here already on Friday" too bad you played Sjeng therr about the rain this week "It was kind of boring to wait for the matches with the rain coming down the first days. I guess the rain is now part of tennis since I heard it also rained out in Bucharest and we all know what happened at the US Open."
