Being brazilian and all, Ive been seeing this guy playing since almost two years ago... Well, I just watched his Cincinnati 3rd round match against Zabaleta, and I have to point somethings out. Although he wont pull a Guga and win a Slam for starters, I need to say Im impressed with his slow, but constant growing as a player. Sarettinha (as he is known here) is just coming back from a minor injury, but has already won two matches on hard court (clay is his best surface so far, although he has done much in Wimbledon ). He lost to Zabaleta eventually, but a forehand-on-day Zabaleta. The same forehand-on player that steamrolled Guga 4 and 0. Whats interesting to notice is that, even if Flavio's groundstrokes still need work (his shots go shorter and shorter once he is defending himself), his serve is A LOT better, he is fit (running all over the court and even to the net to catch dropshots, the latter being his worse movement since I can remember) and his body language is a lot better too. He did get frustrated in the end of the match, but because he was leading by a break and Mariano played out of this world with some shots (the argie painted line after line, non-stop) to break him twice in a row and win it all. What I want to point is that I'm really looking forward to seeing what Flavio will do in the US Open. If he has a fair draw, he might grow in confidence, and maybe we will have a darkhorse going deep in the draw. I hope Im right.

?? He won the first set in a tiebreak, lost the second 62 (no chance he could have served for it then), lost his serve in the 3rd when he was leading 4-3, then again when he was down 4-5.
So, no, he didnt serve for the match.

He has a good chance to do better than last year, hasn't he I don't mind your prediction. Flavio is very refreshing to watch and he's one of my favourite 'nobodies' Flavio for the USO title!

So Dissident, what's Guga's other name in Brasil, Kuertenho? *bad joke* I don't get that whole, add 'nh' and you have a nickname... isn't Meligini Fininho or something? Can you explain it, or is this like asking to explain an idiom?
Anyway, at one point I think I was trying to force myself to like Flavio because like Guga, he's Brasilien, and I was going through my whole, 'Brasil is the greatest country on Earth, even though I've never been there" phase, but now that I am past that whole patheticness, I realize I still have to see Flavio play before I can really fancy him. Haha. However, I've noticed how he's had this steady, gradual, silent climb up the ranks and it's very nice. Nobody seems to talk about him much, but it's better that way.
Hurley, I've always thought that Saretta looked like a Brasilien Robby Ginepri? Am I crazy?

-inho is a diminutive in Portuguese, used in this case as a term of endearment or affection. Spanish speakers do the same with with -ito/ita, if I am not mistaken. E.g., Marcelo Rios is known by those who like him as Marcelito, Paola Suárez as Paolita, and so on.
In Fininho's case, fino means "thin", so Fininho is literally "little thin man", something like that.
One could call me Brininho, now that I think of it.

Maybe not. But wasn't he up a break late in the third? Yes, like I said, he was leading 4-3 and serve in the third. But Zabaleta played too good from then on. The guy was pumped.

It sounds really odd Anyway, yes, your explanation is spot on. Nothing more to add there. As for Nwando's question, Guga is known as Guga. But some people call him Manezinho. Mane is a person who was born in the city of Florianopolis and has their very special ways of speaking and bahaving. Guga is one of the best samples of that culture. FIY, it's funny and strange for all the rest of the country to hear Kuerten and his peers speaking, as they have an hillarious accent.

Saretta and Zabaleta played a wonderful point with both players scrambling around the court. Zabaleta finally won the point and Saretta ran to the net to hug him The South Americans are better pal than those US players ;D ;D

So all people from Floripa sound like Guga... that slurred speach or whatever? Is that what you mean? Anyway, I dunno. I don't wanna think other people are actually in comparison to the one and only Gusmeister
Well, thanks to o portuguese experts!! Nwandinho, I like that! So now I got a Brazilian name and a Russian name, Nwandova. LOL

Hmm, actually it would be "NwandinhA". Feminine words have termination in an "A", in opposition to the masculine words, that finish in an "O" in that form. I mean, last time I was informed, you were a girl. Unless something changed ( ), you should be Nwandinha. It sounds REALLY similar to one of the nicknames for Fernanda here in Brazil. Nanda can become Nandinha. Theres a girl tennis player Maria Fernanda Alves, people call her Nanda Alves and sometimes Nandinha.

Ola! Thank you Nandinho? Do I have it right? Well, it's nice to know my nickname is close to that of Fernanda Tavares, lol! The second most beautiful woman in the world.
And that pic of Flav, he doesn't look like Ginepri there. But I do like his top. Is that his tennis top? It looks like a surfer's suit. That's so great! I love surfing--well, watching it, as I do have a fear of water
