Heel and the shoulder is a bit tender from playing too much tennis, something he is not used to doing.
Before Barcelona the only thing he was winning was doubles matches with Chubby Chela.
Give Wimbledon a break and get with the strength and play in Båstad instead that's where the true competition is.

Gaston Gaudio vann Paris
Here is an approximate English translation.
The people of Båstad are to be congratulated. The world's king of clay and winner of Roland Garros is Gaston Gaudio.
The unseeded Gaudio saved two match points against the favourite and fellow countryman Coria in the final of Roland Garros.
We are unbelievably happy to salute and welcome to Båstad for the first time a winner of Paris since the days of Wilander said tournament boss Thomas Wallén.
Gaudio began the final pitifully and was behind 2-0 in sets, but successfully turned it around. It was on the whole a strange match, when Coria affected by cramp and Gaudio applauded and smiled when the crowd did the wave.
Perhaps this turned the match? "After that I relaxed and attempted to enjoy the moment and it worked" said Gaudio afterwards.
At the presentation he cried when the father of Argentine tennis Guillermo Vilas who won Paris 1977, gave out the prize toggether with John McEnroe.
The final finished with Gaudio's signature stroke, a classic single handed topspin backhand.
Three of the four semi finalists were Argentines. Three players playing in Båstad made the quarters besides Gaudio, Carlos Moya and Juan Ignacio Chela. Two more players playing in the Swedish Open made the fourth round namely Feliciano Lopez and Tommy Robredo.

I forgot that he won Barcelona in 2002. I thought his two back-2-back clay court titles that year were smaller ones.
Anyone know Gaston's schedule for the summer?

He is playing Båstad after Wimbledon, which I don't think he will play. I have a lot of stuff on MTF concerning that tournament. He is also playing Kitzbhuel and I think he might be in the Olympics now, especially with that great RG performance.

This is courtesy of friends in Argentina, they are Nalle fans unfortunately. ;D
Gaudio was on the programe CQC which is a humor program yesterday and he was asked, if David had won the SF, who would have cheered for? David or Coria? and he said David.
Then he made some comment not giving a shit about Coria's cramps. That he wanted to win it no matter what, he wouldn't have minded if he had drop dead in the middle of the court.
That's the atitude I love to hear. ;D

Gaudio decides today if he goes to Wimbledon La nacion 12/6
This weekend will be clear if two of the main Argentine tennis players will participate in Wimbledon, the third Grand Slam of the year. In the next hours the situation of Gastón Gaudio can be solved, that drags an ailment in a heel from its victory in Paris. "Yes all the studies aretaken by him. Tomorrow (for today) we are going away to reunite, but we do not want to hurry to take one decisión", said Frank Davin, the trainer of the champion of Roland Garros
Gaudio was distinguished yesterday in the Vilas Club, where he received a picture with the cover of the edition of last Monday of LA Nacion, in which his consecration in the French Open stands out, after winning in five sets form Guillermo Coria in a dramatic end.

Yes, Båstad is more important and at the same time, it's not that he has a history of doing this, considering he hasn't been injured for a while and it makes more sense to rest than stuff the rest of the year up.

Charles Bricker must be looking for a job as Coria's interpreter or marketing agent.
It must have hurt him to say that he deserved to win.

Charles Bricker must be looking for a job as Coria's interpreter or marketing agent. It must have hurt him to say that he deserved to win. That hurt was washed away when he wrote so forcefully that this would be Gaudio's one and only GS title -- as if he stole it from Coria in the first place

www.eurosport.com/home/pages...Sto598795.shtmlArgentina hails new hero Watch out Diego Maradona - there's a new sporting hero in town. French Open winner Gaston Gaudio has joined Argentina's pantheon of sporting greats after his thrilling victory over Guillermo Coria on Sunday. "Gaudio touches heaven in Paris," beamed one newspaper on Monday, picturing the ecstatic 25-year-old. ROLAND GARROS: Gaudio back from brink Argentina's leading sports daily hailed "Gaudios" - punning on Dios, the Spanish word for God - a nickname reserved until now for Maradona in the soccer-mad country. Unseeded Gaudio clawed back from two sets down to take the French Open crown after number three seed Coria fell foul to nerves and cramps, triggering an outpouring of emotion back home. "Roland Gaudio," said Clarin's special tennis pullout supplement, renaming Roland Garros as Argentina's own. "The King of Paris," exclaimed La Nacion. The last Argentine to win the French Open men's singles was Guillermo Vilas in 1977 and it was the country's first men's singles grand slam win in 25 years. "We had to wait 8,922 days for a countryman to return to the top of one of the four major men's tournaments," said La Nacion. But Coria's defeat meant the victory was bittersweet. In his hometown of Venado Tuerto supporters had uncorked the champagne early as the 22-year-old appeared on track for a three-set whitewash. "Venado Tuerto is suffering," said Clarin. Photographs of an ecstatic Gaudio gave way to pictures of a disconsolate Coria and his aghast wife Carla. "What happened?" asked Ole.

Translation French Open champion Gaston Gaudio is coming to the Swedish Open this summer. “It is so that one shivers with excitement” said tournament director Thomas Wallén After the triumph in Paris, Gaston Gaudio has become one of the hottest tennis players in the world. Now it’s clear that he is coming to the Swedish Open in Båstad, which begins on the 5th of July. “It is so that one shivers with excitement, that he is coming to Båstad, it is certainly a confirmation that we have one of the best claycourt tournaments in the world” said tournament director Thomas Wallén to TT. Also Carlos Moya is coming to Båstad, as are the highest ranked Swedes, but Gaudio has become the new main attraction for the Swedish Open. He has previously played the tournament in Gstaad, but he heard from his friends, that it was more pleasant in Båstad and chose instead to commit himself to Båstad, which naturally we are tremendously happy for, continued Wallén.

I must thank the great people from the Mariano Zabaleta board for this and these are words from Zabaleta about Gaston. www.clarin.com/diario/2004/0...tes/d-05501.htmAlguien como él Mariano Zabaleta. English I have known Gastón since I was 10 years old. He is a friend like the friends I have of all my life. With him or Juan Chela, friendship goes far away from tennis. The truth is that what happenned to him is unbelievable because winning Roland Garros is everyone of us' dream. When I saw him crying on TV, I cried too. And my mother dropped a lot of tears; she was deeply touched because she loves him like a son. When we were kids we shared a lot of things and he was very good to me in those very difficult moments. For example, one day he sat and said "you are wrong doing this or that thing". Or he was able to tell me "here you are, read this book". Yesterday we have been talking by cell phone and the only thing that we said both of us during five minutes more or less was "actually I can't believe it". He is crazier than me, but he made me love him a lot. It's difficult to find in this so competitive sport a person like him.

I remember my 1st time watching in person Gaston play at the Oz Open. His opponent was Niklas Lapentti - this was 2001 if memory serves me right. Gaston lost in a thrilling 5 setter - I went away thinking that Gaston has really nice strokes - both forehand and backhand! And now, his backhand is lauded as the best in tennis. Do I have an eye for talent or what? hehheh
Anyways - just a quick question - can anyone tell me which Wilson model Gaston uses?
Thanks, CrazedTennisFan!

He uses a Wilson Hyper ProStaff 6.1 and no that racquet is not going to make you play better at all. We don't brag about our talent spotting on this board, and you are about 2 years too late, though earlier than most when it comes to the man's talent. He never beats Lapentti.
