Hopefully the ITF will give Gasquet a light sentence for providing us with these chuckles. Good call!

It will be exciting when he's busted for marijuana, which got into his system when he went back to the wrong room at the hotel and stumbled upon a hot-boxed orgy. Sexy ladies only, of course.

What would have been the verdict if he had said he got it from smooching an attractive young man?

The Wuss after his loss to Vemic in New Haven:
"Physically, I was really tired because I stopped playing for two months and didn't touch a racket. I'm up here trying to practice for the U.S. Open, and I'll prepare harder next time."

This is not common knowledge, so I will share the news that Ti-Rich won a tournament! An exhibition called l'Open de la Baie de Somme, where he beat Faurel, Haehnel, and then the Gnome in the final, without dropping a set.
The women's draw was won by some chick named Bovina, never heard of her.

I assume that he couldn't practice because he was stoned. I will assume this of all things that he does for now.
Good on him for the tournament win. What's the prize, a free pizza?

From Tebbutt's year-end wrap-up:
"It is probably the forgotten gem of the 2009 Grand Slam year – Fernando Gonzalez defeating Richard Gasquet 3-6, 3-6, 7-6 (10), 6-2, 12-10 on the No. 3 showcourt (Margaret Court Arena) in a third-round night match at the Australian Open. The 6,000-strong crowd went bananas as it got caught up in the manic tempo of the shot-making. Even though he lost, Gasquet was a revelation. Raised by two tennis-teaching parents, he has never appeared to really take genuine pleasure in playing the game, or seemed to have a stomach for the fight on court. But he was incredible, whacking winners all over the place, going to the net like crazy, and finally hobbling around in the fifth set on a bad leg – battling in a way that many had never seen. Even Roger Federer, who watched on TV, commented that maybe the gutsy performance would be the inspiration Gasquet needed to finally fulfill the lofty expectations placed on him. Sadly, it did not happen. Gasquet, 23, tested positive for a minute amount of cocaine (he claimed he received it by kissing a woman in a club) in Miami in March. He was suspended for two and a half months and, though he returned to the tour in August, he was sadly unable to build on that impressive display against Gonzalez on a memorable night in Melbourne."

Hey Briny, thanks for the Tebbutt tidbit..He's still got a chance to fulfill some expectations but getting closer and closer to the late bloom, or bloom again category. I loved the five setter he won against Roddick in the quarters at Wimby 2008, came from two sets and a break down to do it! He can fight, he can play great tennis, he can't do it often. Thus spake Fredoe Happy holidays!!!

After blowing 2 match points and losing to cramping Youzhny:
"That's tennis. He played unbelievable on the match points. But compared to what I have been through in the last few months, this loss is almost a joy. ... I am happy to be able to play again. I never thought I would get back to this level so fast."
/me sees his PCs are going to be as entertaining as always!

I see that Wussquet's new coach is Gabriel Markus, who if memory serves is a former Argy DC captain. Apparently the initial plan is to work him bery hard physically.
He is currently in Toulon, serving as a sparring partner for the DC team. How the mighty have fallen.

True, but I won't complain. The French bench is very, very hot.

"I could not stop it," he said of the momentum that swept him away. "I really had nothing to give any more. I have no energy left. It was impossible for me to do anything else. He is a big fighter. He plays every point. I felt tired. It was very hot."

The word on the street is that they had a clash over Wussquet's "work habits". He has returned to his long-time former coach, Deblicker.

I am probably the only person on the forum who was unaware that the Wuss is coached on a part-time basis by Sébastien Grosjean. His "head coach" is apparently Ljubicic's long time coach, Riccardo Piatti.
The word on the street is that Grosjean, who lives in Florida, will work with Gassy during North American tourneys.

"J'étais crispé, je manquais d'énergie par rapport à Indian Wells (quart de finaliste), j'avais un peu moins de jus. J'étais un peu stressé et en plus j'ai mal servi."
Woohoo! Why use just 1 excuse when 4 will do?

Wuss really should read his own press conferences now and then; I bet he has no idea what a wuss he sounds like. Of course then he'd have to be put on a suicide watch.

Friday May 20, 2011 Gasquet has designs on deep run in Paris
PARIS (AP) -- Richard Gasquet hopes tactical tweaks, improved fitness and a lucky red shirt will help him go deep at the French Open this year.
Fresh from a win over Roger Federer at the Rome Masters last week, Gasquet will start his campaign at his home Grand Slam tournament against Radek Stepanek, an opponent he hasn't beaten in two meetings.
The 13th-seeded Gasquet said Friday he is ready to play more attacking tennis on the Roland Garros red clay where he has never advanced past the third round.
Working with new coach Riccardo Piatti, the Frenchman said an attacking mindset has helped produce wins against Federer, Albert Montanes, Igor Andreev and Thomas Berdych.
"Sometimes I play less well, so I play behind the baseline,'' Gasquet said. "It's not really my best type of tennis, but sometimes I don't feel my shots are good enough. It's not the best solution, so I try to move forward to the net so that I can have more winners.''
In a bid to relaunch his career, Gasquet also hired former French player Sebastien Grosjean, whose attacking style helped him reach the semifinals at three different Grand Slams.
"With Sebastien as well I feel good,'' Gasquet said. "And I play better, I think. Now time is flying by and I've gained experience. I'll try and continue on the same tracks. In the future, this is the type of style I need to have. To move forward is what I need to do, to move into the court.''
Regarded as a potential No. 1 when he turned professional nine years ago, Gasquet has struggled to live up to expectations. His career hit a low in 2009 when he missed the French Open while sitting out 2 1/2-months for a positive test for cocaine.
He successfully appealed, saying the drug inadvertently entered his system when he kissed a woman at a nightclub.
But the 24-year-old Gasquet seems to be on his way back. He reached 14th this week for his best ATP ranking since October 2008. In Rome, only top-ranked Rafael Nadal was able to stop him in the semifinals.
Gasquet is adamant he has the weapons to compete with players from the Top 10 but acknowledges he need to find better consistency to close the gap with the best.
"You have to do the same all the time for all the matches,'' Gasquet said. "This is what they manage to do. This is what I will try and manage to do.''
Last year in Paris, Gasquet lost in the first round after running out of steam and squandering a two-set lead over Andy Murray.
"I think this year I would have beaten him,'' Gasquet said. "I play better, that's true. Last year I was tired. This time it's OK. I played well in Rome, I could rest for a week and practice as well.''
Known for being superstitious, Gasquet said he may well wear the red shirt he donned when he beat Federer in Italy.
"I try not to think about these things, the lucky charms,'' Gasquet said. "I played with it for a while, that's true. Maybe I will continue. Why not?''
