23 May, in Athens. If it's Chelsea and Manchester U. who pull through, it will be a rematch of the FA Cup final which will be held on 19 May. The FA Cup final will be Manchester U. vs Chelsea. If both clubs reach the Champion's League final (the most likely scenario right now), then it will feature the same teams as the FA Cup final, meating in a big final for the second time in a week.

Yeah, I understood, but...that's dumb. I mean, shouldn't there be One Big Thing? And if there happen to be Two Big Things...why should they involve the same teams?

FA Cup = English Cup Every country has its league and cup, sometimes even more than one (I know there are a bunch of cups in Great Britain). Then there's Champions' League. And UEFA Cup. So there are at least Three Big Things. Americans will never understand our system.

Yeah, I understood, but...that's dumb. I mean, shouldn't there be One Big Thing? And if there happen to be Two Big Things...why should they involve the same teams? Oh, OK, now I see. The FA Cup, like Joana said, is an English competition, not a pan-European club competition like the Champion's League. For another example, Sevilla is currently fighting for a place in the final of the UEFA Cup (a lower tier European club competition) AND for the victory in Spanish League (only one point away from Barcelona).

They must be Totally. Teams who reach the end of the season still in competition for two or more Big Things are frequently at the end of their tether. I call it "the Leverkusen effect", because of Bayer Leverkusen, who reached the very end of the 2002 season as contenders for the German League (which they lost), the German Cup (which they lost in the final) and the UEFA Cup (which they also lost in the final). The European club competitions are always the priority. Top clubs are usually contenders for their national leagues/cups on a consistent, year in-year in basis, but the European club competitions can be a once in a lifetime opportunity, particularly for smaller clubs like say FC Porto. Not to mention the big €€€€. As for national competitions, it depends. The League is usually more prestigious, and in some countries like Italy nobody cares about the Cup.

Liverpool on to the final after winning the penalty shootout. 120+ mins with a lot of running and pushing and tackling but very little football.

Re-match of the 2005 final: Milan on to the final as well after whomping Manchester U. 3-0.
Chelsea vs Manchester U. "the most likely scenario". Yeah, right.

UEFA Cup final Sevilla def. Espanyol. Espanyol was trailing 1-2 on extra time with less one player to boot, and still managed to equalise. But lost on the penalty shootout just like 20 years ago. A real shame.
English FA Cup final Chelsea def. Manchester U. 1-0. Drogba scores on extra time and gives Chelsea and Joe Zay Mawreenow its single big title of the season.
FC Porto wins the Portuguese League.
Evil Real Madrid now leads the Spanish League.
Champions League final next Wednesday.

Milan def. Liverpool 2-1
Managed to get home in time to watch. Milan didn't do dick in the whole of the first half but scored. From then on, Liverpool seemed totally out of sorts.
The final ceremony is now FA Cup style, with the players climbing up into a platform in the stands to received their trophies instead of doing so on the pitch.

Decisive round of the Spanish league just finished. Barcelona and Real Madrid were playing at the same time, Barcelona in Camp Nou with Espanyol and Real Madrid in Zaragoza. 3-4 minutes to the end of both matches, Barcelona led 2-1 and Real Madrid was down 2-1. This meant Barcelona would overtake Real Madrid and all they had to do was to beat hopeless scrubs Gimnastic Tarragona on the final round to win the League. Then all of a sudden Real Madrid scores in Zaragoza, and no more than 20 secs. later Espanyol scores in Barcelona. Bam. Evil Real Madrid are now almost sure to take the League.

Evil Real Madrid, that symbol of fascist oppression and rampant commercialism, take the title, even though they were down 0-1 to Mallorca up until halfway in the second half IIRC. Turned the score around and won 3-1.

Totally. Benfica is the same story. Fascists. Clan Corswandt switched from Benfica to FC Porto in the mid 1950s much because of that. Copa del Rey is on Saturday, Sevilla vs Getafe. BTW I believe Serbia losing to England gave the Portuguese U-21 lazy ass prima donnas another shot at the Olympics. A heartfeld "thank you".
