Justin Verlander no-hit the Brewers today, walking four. First no-no of the year, right?

The Yankees have won 7 games in a row. Here they come! I hope. Congrats to Justin Verlenader on his no hitter. But LOL @ the endless seagulls flying around and on the field during the game and the juggs gun in Detroit that said Verlander was throwing 102 mph's in the 9th ining. ;D

Let's hope the D-Backs stomp NYY tonight. Mike Mussina - his velocity has totally crumbled. It wasn't long ago that he could throw a 93 mph fastball. Now he's a soft-tosser ... Jays won today to salvage one game from the Giants series. Really, if not for the anemic offense, they could have had all three. But that's how it goes. And it's harder for them playing under NL rules too, I suppose. Another quality start from Dustin McGowan though. And the Jays lit up Giants phenom Tim Lincecum, handing him his first MLB loss. Well done. The Mariners had to go 13 innings last night to beat the Cubs for their fifth straight W. Again, remember, this is a team that doesn't get days off!!! The bullpen must have their arms hanging off at this point ... Oh, and A.J. Burnett's shoulder is bothering him again so chalk up another injury for Toronto. Go Colorado.

The Yanks are over .500 again, and are now just 8.5 games behind Boston, and 4.5 games back in the wildcard race.
Selig is apparently going to suspend Giambi. What a joke.

The Yankees are coming! The Yankees are coming! I hope. Sadly Andrew, Jason Giambi has become Bug Selig's steroid scapegoat. And this is the thanks Giambi gets for talking to the media and apologizing for doing steroids? Selig is crushed that he will be remembered as the Comissioner of Major League Baseball during the steroid era and wants to bring people down with him. And he's starting with Giambi. I also expect Selig to snub Bond's when Bonds breaks Henry Aaron's home run record this summer. Selig doesn't wan to be there to congratulate Bonds on breaking the home run record. He doesn't want to be associated with steroids in any way. But it's too late. The steroid era is Bug Selig's legacy. Not interleague baseball.

Selig has totally fucked up the steroid issue. I don't expect that to change.
Commissioner of Baseball ... we all know who it should've been ... GEORGE W. BUSH!
The Yankees are disgusting!
Colorado did a nice job of taking 2/3 from Boston ... they beat up on Beckett and Schilling for the two W's. Very impressive. And the Sox only got five runs in the entire series. At Fenway. Weird.

Yanks and Clemens lose. Clemens pitched well though. 8 Ks in 6 and 1/3. So Boston goes out and clubs Barry Zito. Go figure ... And Gil Meche won today with a great start against the Marlins. Maybe the Royals are right about him ... Mariners lose. Um, Prince Fielder has 24 home runs and 53 RBIs. Where did he come from? And the Jays win. SWEEP THE NATIONALS.

Prince came from Cecil! Hail the power hitting hosses!
Except I think Prince will probably be even better. He's a more disciplined hitter. And still has the gargantuan power to all fields. Negative is that he's probably the worst defensive 1B in MLB.

If Prince Fielder can do so well his first 2 years in the major leagues, what's he going to be like when he matures and has alot of knowledge to go along with his herculian power? I can see him being the top power hitter in the coming years while still being a good average hitter as well.

The Jays didn't sweep the Nationals. I guess I can't blame Towers, though. He pitched okay. The offense just did nothing. It looks like Burnett will wind up on the DL yet again. They are saying it "doesn't look too bad" but I don't think I believe the Jays front office nowadays ... I don't know what they expected, though. There wasn't any evidence Burnett could stay healthy - just as there was no evidence he was a big winner either. He is a good pitcher, and he is a good arm, but it's hard to see that guy winning 20 games ever. I'd be happy if he could even exceed his career-high of 12 this year. KC won today. They're doing better! They are not the worst team in the Majors - Cincinnati and Texas are worse! Whooooo! Oh my, the Orioles fired Sam Perlozzo. The fans rejoice. Boston and Curt Schilling lost. Thumbs up to that.

Burnett is on the DL. The Jays just released John Thomson and Tomo Ohka. Fair enough ... might as well go with the young pitching. I don't think I've mentioned this, but some of the Blue Jays' everyday players are beginning to get healthy. We have Gregg Zaun back! That is going to be a huge plus. Today he pounded out three hits, three runs and three RBIs, and Halladay loves pitching to him. He's a major upgrade over the Jason Phillips/Sal Fasano platoon. Still waiting on the returns of Reed Johnson and Gustavo Chacin though. Maybe July. Frank Thomas' bat showed up today. A grand slam for him. Maybe he'll start hitting. If Toronto can get Wells and Thomas going, they'll turn things around very quickly. Shaun Marcum pitches tomorrow as the Jays try for the series win over LAD. Here's hoping.

Pitchers will figure Prince out, and he'll struggle for a bit. Also, he has Cecil's genetics. Which means his body may not last for long.

Or his body may just be comically fat. That would be fun. I'm liking this "Colorado-beats-up-on-NYY-and-Boston" dealie. They got to Pettitte today and Francis was damn good. The Mariners ended their six game losing streak tonight in stellar fashion. Being back at home helps, and I guess you had to expect a drop-off: they had to play so much over such a short period with all the makeup games, and they had to play so much on the road, too. They'd won five in a row before the L streak - I guess fatigue caught up to them. But tonight was different. Jeff Weaver got his first win of the season. Didn't think it would take until June 20th to get there, but alas it did. But what an outing! Just four hits allowed in a complete game shutout. The only time Pittsburgh threatened was in the ninth, and they still got nothing. And Jeff's ERA now drops to a sparkling 8.56. Plus, Richie Sexson hit a home run for the second straight night and drove in two. He's now hitting .209, highest he's been in weeks. Maybe he's coming around.

And he's faster too. I'm sure Fielder will struggle from time to time this year. But I bet he ends with with 45 plus home runs and 120 plus RBI's and wins the National League MVP award for leading Milwaukee to the NL Central Division title. The Yankees are getting on my nerves again as they've scored 2 runs in 2 games in Colorodo.

Yeah, Clemens got rocked. Matthew Holliday, what a hoss! I know, eh? The Jays lost one they should have won. The relief pitching of all things failed us. Well, 71 games through, and they sit at 34-37. I'm throwing in the towel; they won't be able to do it this year. However, the emergence of the homegrown pitching, Marcum and McGowan in the rotation, Janssen, Accardo and Downs in the 'pen, that bodes well for next year. It's been great to see, and I only hope it continues, and maybe Brandon League joins that bunch when he gets healthy. Something to worry about is the year-long slumps of Vernon Wells and Frank Thomas. That Thomas has 29 RBIs at this point in the season is pathetic!!! The team needs them both to produce or great success is unlikely. ~~~~~~ However, the Mariners are a different story! They can contend this year. King Felix's outing tonight was sublime; if he can pitch like that, and Weaver can pitch like he did on Wednesday, they have the pieces to win the division. Hopefully the front office appreciates that and goes out and gets another bat before the deadline; although, they don't necessarily need one. Ichiro is having one of the best seasons of his career, and there are some really substantial contributions by others. It'll be a fun year.

So of course the Jays win a 'character-builder' in ten innings and the M's lose 16-1 to league-worst Cincinnati. Crazy game ... Dice-K vs. Maddux tonight in a pitcher's duel. Wish I'd have seen that ... wish it had been a different result. The Cubs might come around if Carlos Zambrano pitches like he has been and Aramis Ramirez plays like he should now that he's off the DL. Zambrano's been electric in his last four starts, bringing his ERA down from 5.62 to 4.27 now ...

S2, it sure looked like your Jays were a tad lucky last night. The Yankees need to sweep the Gaints. And the Mets desperately need to win the series against Oakland. The Mets have lost 6 straight series. And only 1 team in major league baseball history has made it to the World Series having lost 6 straight series during the regular season. That team was the 1973 New York Mets.

They were kinda lucky.
Today, they just hit the ball. The Big Hurt was 4-for-4 with his 11th home run (#498) and four RBIs. Is he busting out?
And Matt Stairs ... Matt Stairs! He was supposed to be our fifth outfielder ... and in only 149 at-bats this year, he's hitting .302 with 11 dingers and 26 RBIs. And was 4-for-5 today. He's been so awesome and so necessary given all the injuries the Jays have piled up. Given his performance, it will be hard to justify benching him when Overbay and Johnson both return. He's the only .300 hitter in our lineup.
Toronto will try to sweep tomorrow. I think they have only one other sweep on the year, that coming against Baltimore in early May. Hopefully they do it.
Having Gregg Zaun makes us an immeasurably better team - when Overbay or Reed Johnson comes off the DL and they can stop playing strikeout-prone Adam Lind, that'll be another upgrade. We'll see if the offense can emerge from its slumber.

Mariners win tonight, 9-1. Washburn the W, and Sexson hit two solo home runs. His slow start may be over ... he usually hits around .260. Today's game brings him to .210, with 14 HR and 44 RBI. If he gets hot as he usually does, it should be another .250+ 30-35 HR, 100-120 RBI year. Hah, Yanks and Red Sox both lost. Chris Young might be the best pitcher in the NL ... A-Rod may threaten for the triple crown. He has his average up to .333, and leads the other two categories.

That overrated non-walking Ichiro will stay ahead of him in the useless BA stat, unfortunately. Alexander deserves the triple crown. 50 bazillion dollars. And the opportunity to eliminate the silly Yankees every single year once he gets off that miserable team.

Wow. Today's Jays' game ... McGowan taking a no-hitter into the ninth, settling for a one-hit shutout, the first of his career. That coming off a horrible outing against LA in his last start. That was truly impressive. He has been Toronto's most highly-touted pitching prospect for a while now, but he's proving he has the goods this year. That's his fourth W, I see more in the future. And the offense was neatly supplied by huge home runs from Frank Thomas and Vernon "VW" Wells. Exactly the guys we need to get hot, and Frank is now just one shy of 500. And the Jays have their second sweep of 2007. And they pass NYY for second place in the East. On to Minnesota. Big win over Griffey and Cincinnati today for the M's. They made a late inning comeback to take it 3-2. But of course friggin' LAA won AGAIN, so they merely tread water in the West. Atlanta is dead. They can't score at all.

And HANLEY~ if he wasn't moved to 3rd in the lineup because he's too good. Other than the year Ichiro hit .370 or whatever, he's been an above average outfielder at best. A fine player that would be welcome on just about every team. But, he doesn't deserve the big superstar status he gets.

The Yankees have hit the skids again and were exposed having to play baseball in the National League parks this year during interleageue play. S2, you must be happy The Jays swpet the Rockies after the Rockies swept the Yankees. And it's official. Parity has tainted Major League Baseball the way it has the NFL.
