They were 8-5 and in first place. They are now 8-10 in fourth. Swept by Baltimore!!!
Losing Glaus sucked. Losing Reed Johnson also sucked. But losing BJ Ryan is killer. That bullpen cannot hold up without him, which I think has been amply shown by them blowing two games in the recent losing streak in the last two innings. Grar!!!!
This is supposed to be the year they knock off the fragile Yanks and the uneven Red Sox. Now they play their next seven games against them. Pray, pray, pray, I do.

That's great.
The Astros suck. So does the entire National League, really. The Yanks, Jays, Red Sox, Twins, White Sox and Tigers are better than any NL club.

Alexander Rodriguez is the greatest baseball player ever.

And yet his team is on a 4-game skid.
7-6, 7-5, 7-6, 10-6...these are games they were in, often leading, but can't finish off. The worst was Friday when Mariano died and blew the 6-2 lead.

They'll turn it around. They've had crappy starts for the past three seasons.
A-Rod's start has been amazing. It's a shame that the team as a whole can't take advantage of it. Friday night's game was laughable. Rivera is a great closer, but he's overrated - as most closers are.
Giambi's bat is hot right now, too. He and A-Rod are the new Bash Brothers.

One player does not make a baseball team. Even a team with a great offense won't be successful with that hideous pitching.
Please don't be one of those idiots who hates Alexander because he's not "clutch", "a team player", "only cares about himself".
Indeed, Jason has also been respectable. Top 20 in EqA in the AL.
But, nobody is near Alexander.

Yup, the pitching has been miserable. And I've been waiting for Mariano to die. This may be the year. Without him they're nothing.

I've never hated on A-Rod. When people rag on him for not being "clutch", I point to all the games they couldn't have won last year without him.
If the Yankee pitching staff could get healthy, they wouldn't be bad at all. I'll wait for Pavano to stay in the rotation for three weeks before commenting more on the starting pitching. Farnsworth would have to take over the role of closer if and when Rivera dies, and that scared me. But why is Rivera choking such a huge shock? I guess everyone forgets 2001. And 2003.

If Farnsworth is ever the closer of the Yankees, they need to put George down and fire every Yankee office member.

Brad Lidge is UNDERrated. oh and mariano was good in 05. He should have gotten the Cy Young. Colon's numbers weren't special. That's true about Mariano Rivera. He should have won the Cy Young award in 2005 over Bartolo Colon. But most of the voters place more value on a very good starting pitcher than a great closer and that's why Colon won the Cy Young over Rivera. I disagree with that thinking. Sasha, Kyle Farnsworth won't ever be the Yankees closer. And manager Joe Torre doesn't even want to use him. He burns out the other relievers to not use Farnsworth. And Farnswoth can't even pitch 2 days in a row and he's probably the strongest relief pither in the major leagues. The Yankees should be fine once starting pitchers Wang and Mussina are healthy and find their form. But their bench is weak and general manager Brian Cashman has to take some blame for that and for making so many bad pitcher signings in recent years. And I would like to have Bernie Williams coming off the bench and starting occasionally in the outfield or at DH this year because he did so well in that role last year. But Cashman didn't want Williams an all time Yankee fan favorite who produced very well last year on the team. P.S. - I'm looking forward to the major league debut of the Yankees 20 year old starting pitcher phenom Phillip Hughes on thursday againt Toronto. I know he's being rushed a bit to the major leagues but I'm hoping for the best and that he gives the Yankees more than their other young starting pitches did recently.

I think it got worse yesterday when Crawford slammed Myers and they lost the Wang start. Having Wang back will help though. He, Mussina and Pettitte should be very solid. But what about #4 and #5? Big weaknesses in pitching for New York.

I am a little bit placated by the Jays taking both games from the Sox in Fenway.
Now ... today's game with NYY is rained out! I guess that means Hughes won't see action against Toronto tomorrow and they'll just move Burnett-Pettitte to tomorrow. That is a game the Jays need ...
See, I don't believe much in Burnett. I think that was a pretty poor signing. He was ok last year when he played, but he needs to be an ace for us to deserve the money he's getting. He's not yet. Do better, AJ. DO BETTER. Or you will be replaced by AJ Maclean of Backstreet Boys fame.

SD's hitting is very strong, and if Peavy remains like he is, they'll be very tough to eliminate.
LAD has the pitching, but the hitting is questionable.
My D-Backs have a potential 1-2 stud combination with Webb and Randall Johnson if he could somehow return to his dominating ways. And a young, but very promising and powerful lineup.
And the Giants still have Barroid Bonds, who could get some new beef roids and hit 100 HR's.

Fat Wells is still effective. At least as their 5th starter. And all the pop flies he allows usually won't get out in that huge Petco Park.

Right.
The Yankees maybe need him back. Add on another loss for them. Six straight now.
Baltimore blew the game against Boston today and dropped both games of that series now. And the last two from their prior series against the Twins. Wily Mo Pena hit a Slam in the eighth inning to steal it away. The O's seem set to go back into the tank where they've been the last decade.
Today was probably Burnett's best outing of the season, but he still walked four in seven innings, necessitating 113 pitches overall. More strikes, less walks is needed.
Oh, and it's Boston-New York again this weekend. I didn't know ...
Why didn't they make up for Wednesday's rainout with a Yanks-Jays doubleheader today?

I suspect that in their greed, the Yanks rescheduled the game on an open date so he could maximize the gate receipts.
