I like the disAstros (CORRECT NICKNAME) because they are the good guys, and because I'm a Houstonian.
we had Preston Wilson last year and I rooted for him. When he let him go I was mad they got rid of him and not, Craplando Palmeiro. (though i was proven wrong, palmeiro came up with some HUGE pinch hits late that season)

You really didn't need to post all that about Carla Pavano. That's like saying Elena Bovina is injured, but even more obvious. All players do what Clemens does, in a way. Except Clemens is the only guy who can get away with waiting until mid-season. Bernie Williams? Come freaking on, the cat. He should be thankful the Yankees even kept him around the last couple years, where he was nothing but a detriment. I guess you didn't see how productive Williams was last season in limited play. That's not being a detriment. The Yankees bullpen blew another game last night. If they don't improve soon the Yankees won't even contend for the wildcard this year let alone the division. The Yankees still need Bernie Williams. He's a good fourth outfielder and occasional DH.

Bernie had an OBP of like .320, and couldn't play in the field anymore. That's bad. Very bad. Even worse than Darin Erstad bad.

I prefer MLB 07: The Show. But, I don't think it's on PS3, yet. I only have PS2 where I pirate every game. Since I don't have $100 billion like Andrew.

So who will replace John Gibbons in Toronto?
That Red Sox series was the ugliest I have seen in some time. The Blue Jays were outscored 26 runs to five in the three games.
And it turns out they were lying about the injury to B.J. Ryan all this time, allowed him to pitch at the start of the season with it and now he needs Tommy John surgery and won't be seen pitching for us until next year at the earliest.
They need to fire Ricciardi as well. What a badly-run baseball team.

That B.J. Ryan situation is enough for many heads to be rolling. Hiding his injury and lying about is one thing... but, not bothering to get anyone and even trading a reliever, when you know there's a good chance he'll be gone for a significant time, is insanity.

Oh, and not only is Halladay out 4-6 weeks with appendicitis, but Glaus is limping again.
What next.
Poor Blue Jays.
This stuff is supposed to the asshole teams in the AL East.

Hiding his injury and lying about is one thing... but, not bothering to get anyone and even trading a reliever, when you know there's a good chance he'll be gone for a significant time, is insanity. Yes, that's another factor at play. I think they really think one of the young pitchers in the bullpen will be able to close. And that's not ... insane. They have some hard-throwers. But ... it doesn't look like Jason Frasor can do it. Jeremy Accardo I would give a shot. If not him, then I'd go out and acquire Bob Wickman, lol. Actually, Derrick Turnbow might be on the block ... And yes, Halladay is now gone forever and Glaus is dead again. Hell. At least Burnett had a good start today and that losing streak is FINALLY over. But man ... even his numbers in his good starts aren't good. 6 and two-thirds, with 10 strikeouts. Impressive, but five hits and five WALKS. Ten baserunners and he probably hit someone too. And he probably threw four thousand pitches. That's not a very good WHIP and that's how Burnett gets burned. He could have that exact same start against a better team and get mauled because the hits happen to be bigger and come at better times. Kinda like what happened to him last week in Cleveland. You can't be consistent and you can't be a big winner allowing so many free passes.

On a more positive note, the other team which commands a piece of my heart is doing fairly well. Seattle! But they are still a big mess. 16-15 is not a bad start though, and they have handled a recent stretch of facing tough teams well so far. So far in May they've swept two from CWS, dropped a makeup game narrowly to Boston, split 4 in New York, lost two of three in Detroit, and opened a three game set with the Yanks at Safeco with a win today. Decent. And Jarrod Washburn shut out NYY for eight innings today. He is now 3-3 with a 2.64 ERA. Last year he went 8-14 with an ERA like ... 4.67 or so. Not very good given what they paid him and what they expected (another bad signing by a desperate Mariners front office ... he won 18 games ... ONCE. Never has he won more than 11 since or before). This year he might actually turn in a solid season for them. Richie Sexson had two hits today and is now hitting a robust .178. You can't rag on him too badly though. Everybody points to he and Beltre as the big busts causing the Mariners slide these last few years, but Sexson has put up his regular power numbers each of the last two years and I have no doubt he will again hit his 35 home runs and 100 ribbies this year too. It cannot be said enough what a fucking bust Beltre is though. Not that everybody in baseball didn't know that during the winter of '04 when they signed him. Bad, bad, bad front office. I'd like to see them stay close this year, but I think it's dreaming to think they can win the division. Probably each of the other three teams is better, actually. Seattle's offense is still anemic, the rotation still isn't very good. The bullpen is awesome, but that only goes so far. But nice to see them on the right side of .500 for once. And beating the Yankees.

At the moment, yes.
It should be Jason Marquis, though. How he's pitching so well this year, I have no idea. Like, hey, it's the Cubs. You're supposed to be terrible like you always were.

The Cubs under the leadership of Lou Piniella will start to turn things around this season and win big next season if they can resign the mercurial Carlos Zambrano and get him pitching at an elite level again.

Marquis is no good, yes. I am in pain after the Jays failed to complete the sweep of the D-Rays today. Hello, Gibbons, why did you pull Shaun Marcum when he had a nohitter through the first six innings and only 78 pitches thrown? The Mariners won 2/3 from the Yanks, edging Pettitte today. Quality.

Gil Meche ... EVERYBODY ragged on the Royals for signing him (five years for 55 million!!!!!). I'm not saying the deal is justified after just a month and a half of pitching, but he's 3-1 in nine starts with an ERA of just 1.91. He doesn't look like the pitcher that played for the Mariners all those years - he looks way better. And remember, many of his starts have come against opposing teams' aces.
Jays d. Baltimore today. Good comeback win. But Boston won AGAIN behind a complete game from Matsuzaka. I can't help but think they are not as good as their record (26-11). But ... they have an 8 and 1/2 game lead over 2nd place already!!! Jesus Christ!
The Jays are resorting to starting a Double-A pitcher in place of Halladay tomorrow. May the Gods be with us.

I didn't rag on the Meche deal that badly. I was more surprised that the Royals, who forever have never spent a dime and lose every good player they develop, decide to dump their riches on Meche... who while definitely talented, had been an average pitcher at best due to often injuries.

That was a surprise. That said, the free agent starting pitching field was very weak last winter and they had the added handicap of being the Royals - who nobody really wants to play for these days. Is Danny Haren the best combination of hot and good in the MLB?

The Gods were with us; Jesse Litsch threw the best game from a Blue Jay rookie in his first start since Halladay waaaay back in 1998 taking a no-no into the ninth against Detroit. Finally, some luck happens for us this year.
Although, the offense did basically nothing against Cabrera. Three hits total. Had they not been able to work five walks, they would never have gotten the deciding run.
Tomorrow Burnett pitches as the Jays try for the sweep, repaying Baltimore for doing that to us in April. This would be a wonderful time for A.J. to completely fold. Here's hoping he doesn't ....

Well, you gotta give it to Burnett. He came through today. Nine innings, one run, three hits, just two walks, only 103 pitches, and ten strikeouts. HUGE!
That sweep gives the Jays a winning homestand (5-4) which is kinda impressive when you consider they lost the first three to Boston ugly-style.
And it allows them to reclaim third place from Baltimore. Plus, if the Yankees lose their second game to the Sox tonight, the Jays will be within percentage pts of #2 in the division. And they gain a half-gaaaame on rained out Boston. Awesome.
Now to the road - Philly. They won't be able to start Thomas - advantage Philly. Or they will, and they'll have to sit Overbay. Something. We'll see how it goes. It just was key to rebound from that hideous nine game losing streak and they did it.

You never know with Gibbons. You really don't.
I'm starting to wonder whether Frank can still hit or whether he's going to Palmeiro us.
I just watched Eric Hinske hit a clutch two run shot against Detroit for Boston. Hinske. Of all people. Imagine. I thought signing him just by itself would surely doom the Red Sox.
