Ok,
Excuse me if there a typos, I am tired.
Today I made it to the first round of the Buenos Aires tournament and it was raining.
Finally, after 3 hours it stopped raining and Carlos Berlocq vs Marc Lopez (the last qualifiers match) started on the main court.
Berlock is an all-forehand player like Moya or Zabaleta, but, he has a solid one handed backhand that makes him more similar to a player like Calleri.
I guess we all know Marc Lopez.
Lopez, who was clearly better, won the match very easily in straight sets Amanda Coetzer's way, by running all the balls from 2 meters behind the baseline and letting Berlocq make all the mistakes.
Lopez almost didnt hit any winner.
After that match I was told Massu vs Montañez was abourt to start, but, Massu is BORING.
So, I went to court 17 to see Gasquet vs Verdasco.
They both look taller on tv, I think Gasquet must be like 1,79 and Verdasco, 1,77.
Verdasco looks a lot like fellow lefty spaniard Nadal.
Gasquet's backhand reminds me of Sabatini a lot, same grip, swing, how it finishes, and the same top spin effect on the ball.
He is a fun player to watch.
They started winning their service games very easily.
But after being 22 in the first set Verdasco won 4 consecutive games to take the first set.
Gasquet was not returning Verdasco's serve very well, Fernando was getting many cheap points and winning his service games easily.
Gasquet was not getting his first serve in, and his second serve is not very good, during the match Verdasco had a least 5 return winners on Gasquet's second serve.
During the second set, Verdasco was cruising through his service games (Gasquet was returning awful), and Richard was struggling.I thought, this match will be over soon, all Verdasco needs is one break.
But, at 55 in the second set Gasquet breaks Verdasco and he serves for the secon set.
In the third set he completely outplayed Verdasco.
I used to belive he was just a very good junior who should be playing challengers, but he surprised me.
All the people were cheering for Richard, just because of the hype, Gasquet, he is certainly more famous than Verdasco.
Gasquet won 26 75 61
After that match I returned to the main court, Volandri and Cañas were playing (Massu won easily 6163, I guess going to court 17 was a good descision).
They were in the second set (Volandri won the first one 63) it was similar to the second set of Gasquet vs Verdasco.
because of some stupid mistakes Cañas broke Volandri's serve but Volandri broke back.
Volandri had the momentum going, all he had to do was to get a break, but, when he was serving to be 55, Cañas started many hard 20 stroke rallies and finally he could break the serve of the Itallian.
In the third set Volandri played awesome.
ps
Volandri has not improved his serve at all, it sill stinks.
Cañas second serve is better than Volandri's first serve.
From the baseline Volandri is as good as Costa at least, it is a shame he cant seem to improve his serve.
Volandri won 63 46 62
Coria vs Horna was one of those matches that you can only enjoy if you are a fan of Coria.
Guillermo played flawless, even tough I dont like him I believe that Guillermo is as good as Marcelo Rios in Making 2 or three amazing breathtaking shots per match.
Coria is playing like he did when he those three clay tournaments last year.
Tomrrow I will watch
Nicolás Lapentti (Ecuador) vs. Juan Mónaco (Argentina)
Franco Squillari (Argentina) vs. Marc López (España)
Herel Levy (Israel) vs. Carlos Moyá (España)
David Ferrer (España) vs. Gustavo Kuerten (Brasil)
Gastón Gaudio (Argentina) vs. José Acasuso (Argentina)
