Monica's not evil [neither is Kim], but she's had her bitchy/catty moments (all of which amused me to no end). Like the time when she complained about not being able to play the 2003 US Open because of her foot injury and she said something along the lines of how it was the most open/easiest draw in years. Let's not forget her telling her WTT coach that she was going to kick Monique Viele's ass because she was outraged at Viele's behavior. And ofcourse, when she takes shots at Steffi in her book. Heh. That was nice. Monica was very gracious and good with the fans most of the time, but she had her moments too, just like any other human being.

She is also $ele$, which doesn't make her evil but certainly doesn't sanctify her either.
Also...there has been much discussion about my hatred of Kim. I think it has been blown out of proportion, and as Exhibit A, I testify that I am rooting for her to KILL Hanturexia tomorrow. Like 0 and 2. So...yeah.

I'm like the biggest Seles fan ever. No relevance to the discussion but just felt like mentioning it. I'm rooting for Dani tomorrow. I'd rather Martina face Dani than Kim in the QF, if Martina can beat Peer tomorrow.

It's inconceivable to me that Hopeless Hantu could possibly beat Kim, or even win a set from her.

Oh yes, I forgot Kim's great aversion to the dirt. 60 60 Hantu, then, of course!

but certainly doesn't sanctify her either. What's wrong to like money? I don't see anything bitchy about those incidents. Pre-stabbing, Monica was unpopular. I recall reading she was frustrated than when she lost a game, she wanted to double bagel her opponent or something. There's bitterness in her book... Well, she lost millions of $$$, Slams titles and without Steffi Graf, she wouldn't have been stabbed. Who wouldn't be bitter?

What's wrong to like money? Not a thing. It just, you know, doesn't appear to me that someone so selfless would base their appearances at events on the "dough-re-mi" which they received. That is for those who are...human. Fallible. Perhaps greedy. Not sanctified.

At least Monica finally split with multi-billionaire Paul Allen. That relationship went on for years, and it was gross.

Well, she lost millions of $$$, Slams titles and without Steffi Graf, she wouldn't have been stabbed. Who wouldn't be bitter? Again, there's nothing wrong with those incidents. Pre-stabbing, she was unpopular because she was always winning and people were getting tired of her domination. Once she got stabbed, she got the sympathy vote, and suddenly she was saint Monica who could do no wrong (labelled so by the same press that ripped her apart in her prime). That was the hypocrisy of the media, not Seles' fault. Though, Seles has always been very gracious. Those incidents just highlight that rather than being a saint who can do no wrong, Seles is human just like the rest of us. I agree re: the bitterness in her book. She definitely lost out on a lot that day and Steffi & Co.'s attitude towards the incident certainly didn't help, but her book still stands as an example of her bitterness. Not that I blame her. Considering what she went through, she's really handled it well.

www.wtaworld.com/showpost.php?p=2055436&postcount=17Monica was different from other #1s in some significant ways-and similar in others. On the positive side I can't recall her ever being bitchy on court (King and sometimes Graf-Serena) or whiny (Navratilova) or catty( Evert) or arrogant (the whole lot of other #1s with Hingis leading the pack IMO). So she wasn't really perceived to be a machine-like ice queen (Evert, Graf and Venus fit the bill) or seen as an aggressive-mannish bitch (King, Navratilova, Serena). So people who hate #1s had to latch onto something else. Of course fans LOVED cute little blonde Monica mowing down Graf on her way to the top, but once she got there in 1991 it was a different story. There was the grunt. And her goofy nonstop machine-gun rattle was CUTE when she was a challenger, but heavily criticized once she reached #1, forget that Monica was a teen and English still a second language. 1991 was the worst year image-wise for her. Others have mentioned the skipping Wimbledon and the Mahwah incident. Then there was her friendship with Donald Trump-she might as well have picked Saddam Hussein as a buddy as unpopular as Trump was that year in a bad economy. Monica was totally clueless there. After she beat Navratilova in the 1991 final Monica was actually booed during the presentation ceremony! Most people who disliked Monica thought she was rather shallow and that her power tennis was ruining the game and destroying elegance. Like Serena (and unlike Graf) , Seles positively loved all the press attention. Modeling. changes in hair color, photo layouts and hippy-dippy outfits-she enjoyed being a fashion plate.

Teenybopper Monica was hilarious! In the US, she got no attention, because Jennifer was the darling. But I always loved Monica; she was one of a kind. :lust:

A cute pic of Kim? I refuse to believe it.
I like the wtatour.com pics of Kim on the front page. They're usually about as ugly as possible.

Hehe. She does!
By the way, Kim is "retiring" next year. Oh no, please don't go. I'm sure my Kimmeke will continue to fight through her neverending injuries another 20 years. FOR ME! Because KIM IS SO NICE!

Because KIM IS SO NICE! Well Kim lets her fans (and everyone else) know what she's planning to do, whether that's the truth or just nonsense. Other players just vanish and leave their fans completely in the dark about their whereabouts, then commit to tournaments sometimes only to withdraw later on. I'm not sure what's better.

Off-topic but since it's been discussed here:
I think the problem with Monica after her stabbing was that everyone, especially some of her fans, always pitied her, because of everything. She lost to Steffi at USO 1995 with a dubious call and despite winning more games - pity. She didn't play as well as before - pity. She was overweight - pity. Lots of injuries - pity. She was always made the victim. I think Monica herself moved on from the stabbing way better than many of her fans. To them she was almost Jesus-like, I think. Monica was "responsible" for that too of course, simply because she was a different person than before, and always showed little emotion in public which might have given the impression of humbleness or so. I don't know. So maybe they thought it was up to them to complain about all the injustice and bad luck that happened to her, since she wasn't doing that. And I think they mistook her somewhat emotionless and almost businesslike attitude on court and in interviews as particularly polite and classy, when in fact it was often just neutral. She didn't "praise" her opponents all the time, she just wasn't mean and said some nice words about them. Again, I can understand the frustration because of all the "what if"'s, but Monica probably realised better than many of her fans that it was "just" tennis and that all those records she missed out on are, in the end, meaningless.

The latter is better. At least Elena is not lying to her fan. Besides, how is she going to let the public know that she had shoulder surgery, or was raped, or whatever? Nobody cares. And she's too stupid to have a site. I'd rather have that than Anna/Lindsay's bullshit.

Good analysis. Seles fans do take her career far more seriously than she does (obviously). She was always made the victim. I think Monica herself moved on from the stabbing way better than many of her fans. To them she was almost Jesus-like, I think. Yo, you should see Crazy Andrew Broad's MONICA RELIGION WEBSITE. www.geocities.com/andrewbroad/tennis/seles/doctrine.html"Admittedly some of this is tongue-in-cheek," so far so good... "...but fundamentally it is serious because the Stabbing is not a laughing matter." And what's the worst is that he's not even close to the most psycho one. Remember earthcrystal? Actually, I hardly ever read Non-Tennis at WTAW, but I was looking for the pictures of Clay Aiken looking like kd lang in space on the "American Idol" finale which I had missed but was told I need to see, and she was in the thread about them DEFENDING CLAY AIKEN TO THE DEATH. Dude.

Hahaha. Thar Andrew Broad character is a weirdo, I figured that out without ever visiting that site. He's dead-serious, that's for sure. Any more inside info on his craziness? I must assume he really believes that Monica is some kind of holy figure or saint, if not Jesus' reincarnation. Scary. Of course I remember earthcrystal. I didn't know she was back. To be honest I don't really have a clue about Clay Aiken but I might check it out though. Meanwhile, you might remember this: www.wtaworld.com/showthread.php?t=52922&page=8&pp=40The fun starts at post #295. I have liked you since then at least. She also made an half-assed apology post that King Lindsay trashed. Later on she only posted occasionally, usually something like "I see the board still hasn't changed blah blah" so I bad-repped her. She answered by PM: Still the same pathetic loser
You think I care about your reps....lmao!! I have a life, and it doesn't revolve around a tennis board, unlike SOME people. Have a mirror handy?
Oh, and just an fyi. For every one little red dot you throw my way after I stop by and post--I get at least five green ones from people that don't have their heads up their asses.
Have a nice day! Bwaaaaah!!!I replied: ...
Oh, go Monica in those upcoming exhibitions! Maybe she finds a 13-year-old to play against, then she might win a game.
Bye.She answered:
You should apologize, but then you have no class.
Typical hateful drivel from you. Why am I not surprised?
Go Dom...I really feel sorry for you. Such a sad existence you must have to live on a tennis board with the name of a mediocre player as your sn.
And another fyi, cuz you're clearly a moron. I wrote a pm cuz it was the easist thing to do when I saw your stupid rep. Same reason I'm sending this one.
Don't bother responding. I won't read it. You're on ignore now. Why don't you just do the same, that way you won't have to try to decipher the big words in my posts that tax your widdle bwain.
Fuckwad.
