Nice to see Seb fighting -- I hope he can keep the Commies away for one more set!

We're getting Stepanek-Grosjean now as they wait for Venus.
Apparently Stepanek had a nasty blister in the fourth set that impeded play.

The French crowd is booing Stepanek now, of course. Ouch.

We have an excuse! He's sick! Woohoo! Sick is not an excuse when your opponent once beat you on a broken foot Regardless - Nadal is much more than "sheer power".

They were jeering his rather ostentatious jog to the chair.

They said the blister looked horrible. Am glad I missed that view!

I don't know WTF that was but Gasquet suddenly was off the beam. Too bad. I'm having a hard time seeing how he had Nadal on the ropes in Monte Carlo. Unless it has something to do with the weather and the heat. He played better in Monte Carlo. Oh, and Rafa played MUCH worse than he did today. Perhaps Richard had something to do with that, I don't know. Rafa looked nervous in MC... or something. He failed to serve the first set out twice *shrug*

Had Richie retired - and I'm quite glad he did not - I had decided ahead of time that I would have the decency to avoid making any retirement jokes ;D

The crowd is really ganging up on Stepanek, though, like they are taking their disappointment out on him for Gasquet's losing.
He's playing some weird, casual volleys though. No knee bend or anything -- looks like a friggin teaching pro.

I mean, there's no need to boo a player as he steps up to serve.

I think Rad's unpopular jogging might be because he feels cramps coming on.

Regardless - Nadal is much more than "sheer power". Maybe, but that was the difference today as Gasquet could not impose his game at all. He was being completely outhit. And I have to say that if you have never played with sunsickness you can't say that it's not an excuse for level of play dropping off. I have, and it was one of the worse experiences on the court for me.

It will be funny if the uninspiring Ferrer wins this Championship. ;D The person who wins is going to be the person who can outhit Nadal. It will take more than simply outhitting him. (Mind you, his loss to Andreev might suggest otherwise. I can't imagine that Andreev outwitted him - speaking of whom, Andreev really ought to make the 4th round or I might have to give up him!)

Regardless - Nadal is much more than "sheer power". Maybe, but that was the difference today as Gasquet could not impose his game at all. He was being completely outhit. And out run. Among other things. There were rallies in there that Gasquet would have won against anybody else except for perhaps Hewitt or Coria (like the one that won Rafa the second set - that was sick!). Surely that gets really tiring after a while. I didn't say that it's not an excuse. I was taunting Bryni. Big difference. Furthermore, you don't need to play with sun sickness to know how much it would affect your play. SITTING with sun sickness is enough to tell anybody with an IQ above 80 how hard it might be to play tennis with it.

I think Rad's unpopular jogging might be because he feels cramps coming on. That would make sense since he's suddenly serve-volleying every single point. And not bending for all his volleys. Man oh man, the French crowd smells blood now. I feel sorry for Stepanek, I've not seen anything that warrants the amount of abuse he's getting from the crowd. I've never heard a crowd boo a player as he steps up to serve.
