Here's an interesting head-to-head: Federer vs Grosjean
2001 Monte Carlo TMS, Clay, Q Monaco Clay Q Grosjean 46 36
2001 Rotterdam, Hard, R16 The Netherlands Hard R16 Federer 46 63 64
2001 Sydney, Hard, Q Australia Hard Q Grosjean 57 46
Grosjean leads 2-1, but Roger won the only indoor match in Rotterdam. Considering that he's now won 23 straight sets in Davis Cup singles he should be able to finish the job, but let's hope the nerves don't get to him... the first ever semifinal for Switzerland with him in the team.

O.K. folks here it comes the long awaitet SMASH translation: Roger Federer writes Swiss sportshistory: With his actuall world ranking (Nr. 4) the Basler secured in the everlasting swiss bestlist the poleposition. And also in the monney competition the 22 year old with a yearly salary of over 6 millions swiss francs his way ahead of the swiss sportsconcurence. A look behind the curtains of the successfull firm, in which the boss with help of his famili will also take care of the management in the future. the firm Roger Federer from Doris Rickenbacher Everywhere where Roger Federer appears in the tennis garden of Indian wells there are immediately queues of ppl asking for autographs and pictures. A year ago he could still move around hardly unnoticed in the stadium. Today he has with help of several bodyguards to sneak through the amount of ppl around him. In the meanwhile the swiss became also a star in the USA. "Roger is good for an identificationfigure on every of the 5 continents." the well known tennisjournalist Bud Collins is convinced. Couse Roger not only plays irrestible good tennis but also brings with what the marked expects from a universel "usable" hero: Roger speaks perfect french and english, he looks good, he has humor and he masters the relation with the media perfect. "A Juwel, also for the advertisingindustry" so Collins. Without Marketing Company The earningpossibilities oppening ou for the 21 year old are for helvetic relations really exorbitant (Gee why can't jurnalists just use simple words?? Just my to sents to the word wxorbitant ) His yearly salary (including prisemonney, starting fees and sponsoring monney) is estimated by experts of over 6 milions swiss francs. Federer is herewith the best earning swiss sport of all time. It's even more surprising that the family Federer from the middle of the year onwards after the contract with the managment company IMG runs out dare themselves to move around the businessfloor on their own. "There have been differences in the end with IMG conserning some principlequestions, that's why we desided not to make any contract with an other firm at the moment", explains Roger. Offers from Managementfirms Roger had a lot. So also Boris Beckers firm BCI and the Zuger Dominik Senn, who realised at the time the contract with the Swiss trustcompany AAM had big interrests at the Swiss. But non of these companies could convince Federer and his Family. Father Robert prefered to represent his son by himself commercially. A first success the firm Federer had in these days. After months, of hardly moving negotiations, the already on october first run out contract with the outfit company Nike could be prolongued. The contract is 5 years long. No words about the amount. The amount of 7 - 10 million swissfrancs coursing around in a swiss boulevardpaper has been declared as "compleately overrated and taken out of the air" from circles around the outfit company. Good advisers on the side The fair, to fail on the unsused businessterrain with povermissuse, intrigues, envy, man-trap, drop a brick and false friends, does not exist in the house Federer. "We have good advisers on our side" affirms "companyowner" Roger. He doesn't want to say any names. He only gives to the protocoll that these are ppl beeing in a very close trust realationship to the family and know something about the sportsbusiness. FedererCoach Peter Lundgren on the other hand denies all rumors to be acting as a wire-puller behind the courtains. "Rogers bussinessaffairs are a clean familymatter." Fatherly marketingboss The responsibilite of the federer businessafairs are according to Roger under his father Robert. The born Rheintaler, who's merchandising chemical substanses for the paperindustrie for a swissfirm in Africa and in the middle east, will take care together with his son of his sons marketing and the startingfees poker at the tournaments, of the taxe and fees business as well as of the paiments of the salary of the "firms employees" such as Lundgren, Paganini and the physiotherapeuts Pavel Kovac and Caius Schmid. Managementdueties Roger Federer gave also to his girlfriend Mirka Vavrinec, who due to an injury had to put back her own sportsambitions. "Mirka books the flights and hotels and coordinates also my timetable according to commercial and public apearances." Also good possible that the 24 year old Thurgauerin will take part on possible kreation of a Nike-Federer-Kollection. Distracted thourg Doller-Poker? The monney in the Federer entrerprise is rolling. Is the boss himself aware of the financial transactions? "Oh yes, I know now very well, what's going on on my accounts" so Roger Federer. The already during this years Australien Open upcoming critic voices in the press, that the swiss through the Dollar-Poker was to distracted from it's main bussiness - playing tennis, the 21 year old won't agree. "It's not like I was thinking about the bussiness now all the time", explains Federer. " I only place the strategies in arrangement with my family and the advisers. The timeconsuming details will solve the others". To the todays strategic alliances belong the contracts with Nike and Wilson, AAM, Rolex and Emmi. Already at the beginning of the year the structure on the mainbusiness Tennis has been newly organised. The traveling-troupe has been reduced. To the Federer-tross now belong Coach peter Lundgren, fitnesstrainer Pierre Paganini and Physiotherapist Pavel Kovac, who came to the team last autom recomended by Mirka Vavrinec. To the "care staff" also belongs chiropractic Caius Schmid, who's loosens up body blocades of the topten player in Basel. Perfect Interaction All ppl involved declare the present arrangement as perfect. Peter Lundgren praises the high profesionalism of everybody, and Pierre Paganini is pleased about the good team climat and the perfect interaction between "staff" and the player. "Everybody understands the work of the other and respects it's specific knowlege" so the Westschweizer. Teamboss Federer is also pleased about the good fonctionality of its tross. "It allows me to have the head free for that what I still like most: playing tennis." That's it folks hope it's understandable as some tearms really weren't that easy to translate into a easy reading and understandable english.

Hi still haven't eaten a thing today! Just read in a Swiss article that Alex may or may NOT come to Gstaad pending the birth of his first baby!
Also, the only players confirmed so far are Rogi, Micha and Juanqui! Sounds OK to me so far!! I'd go if I could!

Apparently Alex already asked for a WC just in case he can manage it to come to Gstaad. So far 3 top 10 players are confirmed Ferrero, Federer, Nalbandian and as the Nr. 2 of Switzerland Kratochvil
Looks like I have to ask my boss for some days of so I can go to Gstaad. Maybe Mrs. B. will come with me....

I w love if we could all attend one tourney together and cheer him on, just like the Aussie "Fanatics" group who travel all over the world to cheer on their Aussie players [esp Rafter, of course!].

I keep thinking about her too... she was around for DC at WTAW but since then, I don't know. ILR -- have to wait for Doris to answer my Q about the Rogi poster. But in the April Smash, there's a lovely one of him, along w other luscious pix!! Nice one of Mirka too! Hackie -- even a couple of piccies of Micha in that issue! I think there's a question section in the next issue where you can ask Micha a Q! If I find the info, I'll post it in Swiss thread. Oops... it's in the Juniors Corner... you have to be under 18! And you win sth signed by Micha... they had one for Rogi before.

Good Morning everyone! (Guess we all worrie about Mrs. B...) Well RF sorry I AM talking about the Smash Poster. Haven't got any other one. So who wants it?? Oh yes and I really forgot about Hackie. But then there's that age limit - who's going to check that anyways. O.K when I think about it I'll post the e-mail addy where you can ask a question to Micha. (Or maybe RF is faster ) And you have 3 guesses what might be one of the headlines in the next issue

Well, I was thinking about Mrs. B yesterday and remembered that she's also in the midst of opening her club. So maybe that's what's keeping her so busy? Hopefully nothing "more serious" -- you know what I mean LOL, thanks guiys for the question thing! I'm definitely over 18 and am not sure if I could sound 'young'.
