BTW who else did notice that Roger will play doubles with Paradon? Looks like they are going to play tomorrow Well goo luck Roger!! And Roger/Paradon YAY for Rogi today! Yes, I knew PHM w be a tough guy even after time off. Rogi must step it up for Zabaleta, who's been doing better lately. Yes, I knew about Rogi/Paradorn -- interesting combo... last wk he played w Jarkko! Hope Rogi does relatively well in Roma and perhaps defend his title in Hamburg OR win in Roma now that AA is out! These 4 weeks are CRUCIAL for him to do well enough. I only worry that AA will now decide to play Hamburg after losing in the 1st rd... HOPP, ROGI!!

Yes, Yay for Rogi! continuing his win streak on clay and to hear him tough out a match like that must be great for his confidence. Zabaleta is going to be a challenge! and playing dbls w Paradorn...an interesting team! good luck to them (but i do want Rogi to concentrate on sngls) I know I prob shouldnt say this but I think Guga has gone mental on clay. First w Norman and now Gaudio. He did so well in the 2nd set and then just blew it in the 3rd. Its hard to think he's out of Rome in the 1st rd, but thats what it is. How is it possible for him to be doing so poorly on clay and so well on hard courts? I'll cont to be about him.

Hi Lily and ILR! I've been wasting my time watching Real and a silly movie and Corrie all at the same time now I have to check out World Sport! I saw that site -- who posted it? In RF.com? It's in Dutch, right? And I thought German was bad enough!! Too bad for Guga -- has he lost his confidence? Not as bad as my poor Alex though -- no sooner does he fight to win a match then he has to face Juanqui!! Why can't AA or Pandy get Juanqui?! I too want Rogi to concentrate on sgles -- Doris said he was getting a bit too relaxed today and lost his serve. He does that, the sweetie... enough, Rogi!! Be serious and focus and be agressive! It's the only way to win a slam -- if he can just improve the mental he's laughing!

Rogi is improving each year, no doubt about it -- I'd like to think his mental is also getting stronger -- he still has those dreamy lapses though but manages to get through them!! But then it wouldn't be Rogi without them I guess!! Maybe he is finally growing up -- sigh... I think he really has the taste of victory now and it will keep him going... all the way to a big fat win!!

We're all a little impatient for sth big to happen... after my Cdn Mike Weir won 2 tourneys and then the big one Masterslast month I thought that w be nice for my fave tennis guy too! Mike's a nice guy and proves nice guys don't finish last! So if that theory holds true, then it's Rogi's time! If only I could relax about it! Would you say that he and Juanqui are the best on clay lately???

Well hes had the potential for a couple of years to be winning big but really as of yet we have yet to see it. I do think this year will be his breakthrough as far as GS's maybe not winning one but being in a semi/final. I hope so badly he can win one hmmm you know I would have to say that this year. I cant think of anyone who has done better.

I'm already nervous for them! Cant think about it. As long as he doesnt have to play someone whose last name starts w "A" maybe he'll be fine.

Well if clay is Rogi's worst surface, imagine how he can do on grass, one of his faves! I w love to see him win a tourney on grass -- this yr, pls, Rogi! As long as he does fairly well in Roma, Hamburg [defend his title or go pretty deep] and RG, which everyone wants to win... fr Juanqui to Marat to Guga no doubt to AA... yuk! Hope AA stays away fr Hamburg or gets knocked out early again... I can only dream of his demise and future retirement...

I hope so because I want him to prove to everyone else in England who doesnt know of him very well how great he is ;D no going far is fine I dont really think we can expect him to win 4 back to back tournies, esp with one being a GS but we want him to do well! as for the retirement of Andre, it may be sooner than you think! I cant think of anyone who has done better. As Pmac w say (omg, I'm quoting Pmac!) Roger has too many shots. So thats why its taking him longer to get everything together. I think this will be his breakthrough year in the Slams too. The AO didnt count cause he got Nalby in the 4th rd and Nalby DOESNT COUNT! Yeah, if he c just get to the semis or final....but no pressure Rogi!

Lily lol! Nalby doesn't count at all!! Es un cero!! He sounds like a not-so-nice guy to me fr what I've read lately... But enough of yukky guys! I think if you can win a title every quarter, you're doing v well and Rogi's already got 3 in 2 quarters and the 2nd Q has just begun! Nah... no pressure, Rogz! We just want Rogi to do well -- slow and steady wins the race! Hewitt's playing Hamburg?? Why doesn't Pete just come out and retire??

His biggest title was on clay, he just won a clay event...maybe its hard for them to imagine one person being able to beat Pete on grass and Guga on clay (when Guga was Guga) Is AA playing Hamburg? Thought I read somewhere he wasnt. And Hewitt is? Talk about a mystery. Is he sick? bored? whats the real story w him... AA's demise and future retirement sounds good to me. Stick a fork in Pete. Now I wish we c do the same w AA.

I think if AA had not gone out in the first rd in Roma he w definitely NOT play Hamburg but now this defeat changes everything. Hope he just goes back to training on those Vegan hills!! fr ATP TELECOM ITALIA MASTERS ROMA MAY 6, 2003 Gaudio Glides Past Guga Kuerten, Srichaphan and Grosjean all go down on Day 2 in Rome. The one-time winner and two-time finalist on the other side of the net didn't seem to faze Gaston Gaudio as the Argentine defeated 1999 champion Gustavo Kuerten in three sets in first round action at the Telecom Italia Masters Rome on Tuesday. Gaudio fought off the Brazilian in the third set to capture the match, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4. Gaudio has now won two straight matches against Kuerten, who won the title in 1999 and reached the finals the following two years. No. 2 seed Juan Carlos Ferrero rattled off his 30th victory of the year with a straight sets victory against Australia's Mark Philippoussis. Ferrero has a 30-6 record on the year and a stellar 18-1 count on clay. The Spaniard already has two titles since the clay season began (Monte Carlo, Valencia) and Ferrero is now shooting for his second title in Rome after capturing the crown in 2001. Carlos Moya, the No. 3 seed this week, secured his spot in the second round with a 6-2, 6-4 win against fellow Spaniard Fernando Vicente. Moya, who captured the title in Barcelona two weeks ago, improved to an ATP-best 20-2 this year on clay. The Spaniard also led the ATP in clay court wins last year when he compiled a 34-7 record. Switzerland's Roger Federer continued to demonstrate his top-form on clay by defeating France's Paul-Henri Mathieu in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5. The No. 4 seed has won six straight matches dating back to his march through Munich for the BMW Open title last week. Federer has won three titles in 2003 and would like to add the Rome title to a mantle that already includes last year's Tennis Masters Series crown in Hamburg. Federer's victim in last week's Munich final, Finland's Jarkko Nieminen, caused Tuesday's first upset after defeating No. 9 seed Paradorn Srichaphan, 6-1, 6-2. Nieminen's game has picked up since the clay court season began. The Finnish player reached the third round in Monte Carlo and Barcelona and did not drop a set in Munich before losing to Federer. Srichaphan, however, hasn't been fortunate enough to have Nieminen's recent success as the Thai No. 1 has failed to advance past the first or second round in four straight events. No. 13 seed Sebastien Grosjean was sent home early after a 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-3 loss to Spain's Tommy Robredo. Grosjean was playing in his first clay court match of the year and hadn't play in an ATP match since losing to Mardy Fish in the second round at the NASDAQ-100 Open. Spain's Alex Corretja picked up his third clay court win of the year by rallying to defeat Albert Portas in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. Corretja is trying to dispel a recent streak of losses, including a first round defeat in Monte Carlo and Valencia and a third round loss in Barcelona. However, the path doesn't look any clearer for the Spaniard, who will face Ferrero in the second round. Argentina's Agustin Calleri showed why he's been one of the most consistent performers on clay in 2003 with his 6-2, 6-2 victory against Austria's Stefan Koubek. The Argentine has compiled a 19-6 record on clay including his title in Acapulco and final in Estoril and will face Gaudio in the second round. Joining Calleri and Gaudio in the second round were another pair of Argentines, as Juan Ignacio Chela defeated Olivier Rochus, 6-1, 6-1 and Mariano Zabaleta moved past Spain's David Sanchez, 6-4, 6-2. In other action, Yevgeny Kafelnikov rallied back after dropping the second set to defeat No. 16 seed Younes El Aynaoui. WHAT THE PLAYERS SAID Kuerten: "Well, it was a close match and we're both good players. I think that the level of confidence meant a lot in my defeat; I wasn't very confident. I had a break at 3?2 in the third set, and I had some opportunities to win. Maybe it would have turned around the match. But that's how it goes in such a tournament where you have such good players." "I'm feeling well and physically ready to play more matches. But I'm just not able to get my rhythm. During one week so far, maximal that I have been playing is two matches in a single week from almost one month and a half. So that's for sure causing me a lot of trouble. Federer: "It was a difficult match for me today because I've only been practicing one and a half hours on this, with these new balls. Different brand, different bounce here. So it's always difficult the first round at a different venue." "I knew he was gonna be a really tough opponent because he hasn't been playing well, he's absolutely motivated. Same as me, I'm coming from a win. He hasn't been playing much, so he really wants to do well. I knew he was going to be a dangerous opponent, so I'm very happy to have won this match. Now I can kind of not relax, but I know how it works with these balls, you know. I can approach the match a little bit differently mentally. I feel good, you know ? of course always after I win." "I think mentally and physically, I can change a match now. Before, it was more just because maybe little lucky, you know. But now I feel like I can really do it and turn around matches by hanging in there. This is also why I turned around this match today and I turned around the finals last week, you know, two days ago, three days ago." I w love it if either Rogi or Guga c win the USO cause then they'd be on David Letterman! Marat was on when he won in 2000 and Pete was on last year. Hmm, Hewitt wasnt on in 2001...wonder why...Oh yeah, cause he doesnt like to do interviews!

It w be great for a non-American to win USO again. Rogi, Juanqui, Guga, even Alex! Wouldn't that just be the best?! After reading Rogi's comments, maybe he is a little more mature and consistent... that's it, consistency, he needs to follow that to win more rather than be up and down. It's great that you're on the board w us now, Lily! Now where has that ILR gone to... I have to go soon to make some pasta for din but I'll check out other stuff.

Thanks RF!
Guga said it himself,"I wasnt very confident." no rhythm=no confidence (or is it the other way around?) well, we know he isnt tired, so onward to Hamburg...
I like what Rogi said, "But now I feel like I can really do it and turn around matches by hanging in there." Rogi hanging in there...he'll need to tomorrow...

After a pretty though first set were Roger got broke at 2:3 and was runing behind that game till 5:5 and which he finally won in the TB
he must have trailed through the second one to win the match 7:6 6:2 (that makes 9 wins in a row without dropping a set... Roger keep it up that way!!!)
