Congrats on Rogi's first grass court title! Emma wants to congratulate you all and she's really happy about the win, but can't get on the board today. She didn't forget you though . Hope he keeps this form up in Wimbly too! I hope so too! I wonder how Lleyton will do this year? Is Maratski playing? Without him, all the tourneys are topsy-turvy!! So we need Rogi and Juanqui to do well!

Yeah, Rogz! I bought a pile of videotapes for Wimby... Juanqui won RG... now it's another New Balls guy for Wimby [and I don't mean Pandy!]. Do you think :ass: is finally starting his downhill slide? After all, this was Pandy's first time defeating him. Now it's Rogi's turn to do it. Anyway, lunch is calling me! Laters, ILR! Have a fab day!

Before I go... read this: Gerry Weber Open Federer lays out his grass credentials Simon Cambers in Halle Monday June 16, 2003 The Guardian Roger Federer re-established his credentials as a contender for Wimbledon after he crushed Nicolas Kiefer in the final of the Gerry Weber Open yesterday to win his first senior grass-court title. The 21-year-old Swiss player, whose mental strength was again called into question last month when he lost in the first round of the French Open at Roland Garros, was close to his imperious best as he ruined German hopes of a home victory with a ruthless demolition of Kiefer. His 6-1, 6-3 victory, which took only 68 minutes, was in stark contrast to his performances earlier in the week when he had been frustrated at his inability to finish off his opponents. Yesterday Federer's game was in full flow and Kiefer, the world No73 who was appearing in the final for the second year in succession, was simply blown away. "The result shows everything," Federer said. "A lot of people criticised me after Paris - whether they have the right to do that or not, I don't know - but I'm happy I was here early and it is great to win a big title on grass. "This was my best match of the week and to win here is the perfect preparation for me for Wimbledon." His first-round defeat at Wimbledon last year by the Croatian Mario Ancic, who was dubbed "son of Goran" for his likeness to the former champion Goran Ivanisevic, still rankles with Federer, so much so that he has changed his routine in order to be fully prepared for this year's championships. "I will not make the same mistakes again," Federer said after becoming only the 12th active player to win on all four surfaces; grass, clay, hard courts and indoors." "Last year I tried to be aggressive but I got a little tight and perhaps a little insecure of my strategy. This time I need to have a second and third game plan." Instead of playing a second warm-up event as he did last year Federer will have a few days' rest at his home in Switzerland before travelling to Wimbledon in the middle of the week. While this week's tournament at s'Hertogenbosch in the Netherlands will miss the pull of Federer, it will be compensated by the first senior grass-court appearance of Martin Verkerk, the tall Dutchman who stunned everyone, including himself, by reaching the French Open final before collapsing to Juan Carlos Ferrero. Verkerk, who is seeded fourth, will open his campaign against Lars Burgsmüller of Germany. source sport.guardian.co.uk

Encouraging stuff he seems determined not to make the same mistakes again. And lets hope that he does have Plan B and C if he may need to bring them into action!

About that all-surface clean sweep, I believe Sampras did actually do it in 1998 - he only won four titles that year, but they were Philadelphia (outdoor hard), Atlanta (clay), Wimbledon (grass) and Vienna (indoor carpet). Now if only Roger could do the same by adding a Grand Slam this year...
Still, those words sound encouraging, I think it is pretty important to get used to the Wimbledon courts since grass courts can play very differently and players need time to adjust to the conditions and the bounce of the ball. And the fact that he said he needs a second or third game plan shows that he realises he needs to be able to "win ugly" in the early rounds of the Slams.

Rogi will get his chance ;D Speaking of Pandy, I'm glad he won a tourney the same week Rogi did cause now all the attention is on him and his stupid serve and Rogi can have some peace. And its kinda amazing and disturbing how much alike they are. Ranking-Rogi 5 Pandy 6, number of tourney wins-Rogi 8 Pandy 7, both have now won on all 4 surfaces, both are masters of optional events, both lost 1st rd of RG...stop the madness So tomorrow's the big day We get to find out who will cause the 1st big upset at Wimby

Halli hallo, Doris! Artikel vom 16. Roger Federers escapade With new manager against Bobo LUZERN - Roger Federer already said good bye to the gras: to play a fun-match against DJ Bobo. On the Luzerner Kunsteisbahn Tribschen the swiss Disco-Star DJ Bobo went on a "mission impossible" against the newly crowned Halle winner Federer. The Jubelee event organised from the yoghurt producer Emmi (10 years Emmi) with his two promoters made the many spectactors a lot of pleasure. Like the following Mixed between the "married couple Bobo" against the Duo Federer and Mirka Vavrinec. For Rogers girlfriend the appearance on the court was an exception - due to an injury she's still not able to go back to the profecional tour. But she won't get bored in the future: As Rogers contract with the agensy IMG will run out per 30. june he'll be managed from middle June by his family and by friends in Bottmingen. As an official Member of the Federer-"in-House-Management" Mirka will take care of his appearances, media appointments, travel organisation and sponsoring events of the world Nr. 5. The Management will be overtaken by Rogers parents Robert and Lynette Federer. Rogers mother will even make it as a fulltime job. source: www.blick.chthe picture going with it RF has already posted.

RELATED STORIES - Oh, I say - Wimbledon time again! - Wimbledon 2003 seedings Roger Federer's defeat of Pete Sampras in the Wimbledon fourth round two years ago seemed certain to set the Swiss man on the road to grand slam glory. But despite possessing a bundle of talent, Federer has become the enigma of the tour, winning a succession of tournaments only to fail on the biggest stages. It may seem harsh to criticise a player who has climbed to number five in the world rankings and who crushed German Nicolas Kiefer 6-1 6-3 in the Halle Open final. But in seven grand slam events since the victory over Sampras, Federer has never gone beyond the fourth round and he has lost in the first round on three occasions. Federer took heart from his Halle triumph, his first grasscourt title, describing it as "the perfect preparation for Wimbledon". But now he must carry the momentum of the Halle win with him to London next week, after a few days' rest at home. Last year, after entering Wimbledon as one of the favourites, Federer was blown off court in the first round by big-serving Croat Mario Ancic. His mental strength was again called into question at the French Open last month when, despite being seeded fifth, he lost in the first round to Peruvian Luis Horna, who had never won a grand slam match before. "He didn't play a bad match and I didn't play a good match, the one definitely helps the other, you know?" was all Federer said in Paris. With his classic serve-and-volley game, allied to a superb backhand and good speed around the court, Federer would seem an ideal candidate to succeed at Wimbledon, if he can survive the opening round. "I prefer the second and third rounds to the first round because by then you are used to the court and the conditions," he said. "And I have a pretty good record in finals. "But there's a lot of work to be done. I want to serve and volley better, hit more aces, and I have to feel more comfortable on grass." In Halle, Federer varied his game well, testing his baseline game as well as his serve-and-volley skills. "I wanted to get in a groove from the baseline just in case I play someone who plays like that," he said. "At Wimbledon I want to be more aggressive than this week. I will have to pick the right shots to come in on. I play my best tennis when I'm playing aggressively." Halle was Federer's fourth title this year and he is on course to outdo his career-best performance in 2002, when he won 58 of his 80 singles matches. Sunday's win allowed him to join the elite band of active players who have won on all four surfaces -- grass, clay, hardcourt and indoors. "With my ranking and my game, the way I'm playing, I know I can win a lot of tournaments," Federer said. Whether one of those tournaments is a grand slam remains to be seen. skysports.com

GO, ROGI!! Federer Express Rushing To The Top © Professional Sport Tuesday, June 10, 2003 It was on Wimbledon's Centre Court two years ago that Roger Federer first announced himself to the sporting world at large by defeating the seven-time champion Pete Sampras in a dramatic five-setter, halting the great American's 31-match winning streak at The Championships. But by then the man nicknamed 'The Federer Express' had already established himself on the circuit before he was out of his teens, thus fulfilling the youthful promised shown when he became world junior champion in 1998 and won the Wimbledon title. Within a year of embarking on his professional career, the tall, well-built Federer shot almost 250 places up the ATP rankings to end 1999 at 64th. That year marked his Davis Cup debut for Switzerland and his Wimbledon debut, a first round exit, which was also his fate the following year. By the end of 2000 Federer's thunderous forehand and ability to do well on any surface had carried him inside the top 50. He reached two ATP finals, the first of his career, losing to his fellow-Swiss, Marc Rosset, in Marseilles and to Thomas Enqvist in his birthplace, Basle. He also represented his homeland in the Sydney Olympics, losing the bronze medal match to Arnaud Di Pasquale. The steady improvement was maintained in 2001, as Federer became Swiss number one, offering his compatriots the chance to cheer someone other than Martina Hingis. It was also the year Federer collected his first injury, a groin strain which sidelined him for six weeks. This setback could not halt the rapid rise of "The Express" who collected his first title in Milan and finished runner-up in Rotterdam and, once more, Basle. The Grand Slams were coming into Federer's reckoning, too. He was a quarter-finalist on the clay of Roland Garros, and at Wimbledon, having famously toppled Sampras, he then lost to Tim Henman in a four-set quarter-final. Following that injury lay-off, Federer was beaten by Andre Agassi in the fourth round of the US Open. So already there were already highly encouraging signs that he was getting close to the very best in the game. He was also a hero in his homeland after scoring all three points in the Davis Cup victory over the United States. It was, of course, inevitable that last year should see the improvement escalate, culminating in a place inside the top ten and an appearance at the Tennis Masters Cup in Shanghai. He won a total of 82 matches (58 singles, 24 doubles) and was champion at three tournaments, Sydney, Vienna and Hamburg. There was also ongoing Davis Cup success. Despite Switzerland's exit to the eventual champions, Russia, Federer won all four singles last year and has won all four again so far this season, helping to propel his nation past the strongly-fancied French and into the competition's semi-finals. Wimbledon last year proved, for the third time in four attempts, a fleeting visit as he went out in his first match to the Croatian teenager, Mario Ancic. But again he got to the fourth round at the US Open and in Shanghai it took the eventual winner, Lleyton Hewitt, to halt him. Expectations were by now enormous and he said, "I get introduced everywhere as 'the future No.1', but there are no titles for being the future No.1 or the player who once beat Sampras at Wimbledon. A lot of people don't understand how hard I have to work to make tennis look as easy as people say I make it look. "I want to win every event I enter. I don't enter any of them just to prepare for Grand Slams, which is the approach I used to have and which didn't work for me." Which is why Federer's 2003 form has been the most impressive of his young career. Three tournaments were won (Marseilles, Munich and Dubai) but there were signs of a let-down when he lost the Rome final in straight sets to Felix Mantilla. This was confirmed by his shock first round loss in the French Open. No wonder he says, with relish, "I fancy my chances better at Wimbledon."
