Sorry don't know more than you guys.
In the german interview he only said that he never had something like this before. And he was even thinking about retiring. But then he won the first set and he just kept going despite the pain he felt. He sais he still doesn't know how he won. And he's optimistic that his back will be fine till tomorrow!!
Get well soon Roger!!
And great win!! Even more so knowing under what circumstanses you had to play!!
(maybe it was good that I wasn't able to see his match live - no none of the channels showed him - guess I would have had an heart attak knowing that he played injured!!

RF They only said that Feli is a dangerous player and that Roger has to watch out. And that there might be a Roger vs. Andy semi which would be almost a final. Well Roger is one match away from the semis. And I really hope he can overcome his back problems. Schalken is beatable. Gee his match against Schüttler was sooooooooo boring long rallies where they just hit the ball over the net to the very same place than before for about 100 times. Geee it would have been so much more intertaining to see Roger play.... ... oh well it wasn't meant to be that I see Roger play on my day off and now I have to work for the rest of the week again. (Hmm all depens when he has to play wednesday I might still be able to see him ) I def. will hurry home when he's second or third on court Oh well I know tomorrow Good luck Roger!!!

RF after searching in some swiss papers I found this: Lopez suchte keine Ausrede: «Für mich ist Federer der beste Spieler der Welt, er kann alles. Lopez didn't look for a pretext: "For me Federer is the best player in the world, he can everythin. I played good but didn't use my chances. He produced in the most important moments the most unbeliveble shots." Whit this coment he was exagerating a bit. Federers Coach Peter Lundgren taxed the level of the match as "nothing special". But that wasn't important after the shock of the start of the match. "The main thing is that he's still in the tournament." source: www.tagesanzeiger.chbtw they also have some nice pics there....

Thanks for all the articles and pics ....we have wall-to-wall bloody Tim here, with a pause every now and then to mourn the sad passing of Agassi....you'd think they were the only two in the tourny! Anyway...very short interview with Roger ( with wet hair!) on BBC last night...he said that his back was "burning like hell" but was smiling..I think he meant with whatever they'd put on it to massage it! ( Now there's a job I could do...) Anyway ..I'm sure that Peter will be preparing Roger the best way and dealing with the back problem..if he could beat Feli ( who played really well himself by all accounts) then things must still be looking good? Yes?

I know some of you have been asking for a report from Wimby...well I did one for RB, so thought I'd copy it here....these are the highlights as I remember them! Enjoy! Day 1 Headed straight for the practice courts hoping to see Roger...didn't have any idea when he would be practising though and last year I missed him all three days BUT...as I got there he was leaving the pavillion and walking towards the courts...I was walking in the opposite direction down a narrow path so we sort of just *met*..lol. I had an envelope with good luck messages from the fans on his official site...so I gave it to him...and he looked a bit puzzled, but then I explained what it was and he gave the most beautiful smile and said *Oh, right ..yeah..thank you* ( sigh) He then put the messages in his bag and went on to court. He practised for about 40 mins, hitting with Todd Martin. Peter Lundgren was there too of course and he and Roger were very relaxed, messing about and chatting.Oh..and Roger was wearing rather..er...snug fitting shorts After the practise, as Roger left I asked if I could have a photo taken with him ( I'd given my camera to some man and asked him to take it..PLEASE!)...Rogi had taken his ponytail out and looked soooo yummy! Anyway he smiled again and said *Yes..of course*, then he put his hand on my back and sort of moved me in closer, so I was right next to him, then put his arm round me....THUD. After I picked myself up off the floor..I thanked him and wished him luck and he smiled and said *Bye* and went.... Had front row seats for his match against Lee, and was sat right opposite Miroslava and Peter. He played pretty well, but had some trouble with those last few points...not showing his killer instinct yet! Day 2. Cat spotted Peter and Roger at the practice courts and texted me...so I rushed over. Miroslava was there too sitting in the corner of the court, collecting balls ( I could do that job !) Anyway, again he practised for about forty mins and was hitting with Marco Chiudinelli, he was very relaxed again and hitting balls at Peter and trying to hit Miroslava. At one point he and Peter started wrestling each other!I managed to get some lovely pics by sticking my camera lens right through the wire fence...which Roger thought was funny! Wished him luck again as he left, but didn't want to bother him again with a pic. Annie spoke to Peter and asked if he knew which court Roger would be playing on the next day.He said definitely a show court, but that he didn't know exactly where yet. A bit later Roger came out of the pavillion after showering..with wet hair ( thud!) he signed some autographs whilst Peter and Mirka sat and waited for him. and then left...Later that afternoon I was sitting by the practice courts when Marco appeared and sat right next to me!...Annie and Cat were there, watching Tommy Robredo practice and thought it was really funny..anyway I said * Hi* to Marco and asked him if he knew about which show court Roger would be on...he was very sweet and said that they didn't know yet. Day 3 Last day today..but after queueing overnight with Annie I got tix for Centre Court, row 2! Roger played better than in his first match...despite a couple of rain breaks he managed to keep his focus.I got loads of pics and waved my Swiss flag like mad. Some wonderful backhands and three amazing high b/hand volleys...just like Pats! Thats about it....so glad to have seen him play AND practice this year( and getting my pic taken with him was the icing on the cake)...and just hope that he does himself justice in the rest of the tourny. He's a VERY sweet guy! GOOOOOO ROGER!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway, again he practised for about forty mins and was hitting with Marco Chiudinelli, he was very relaxed again and hitting balls at Peter and trying to hit Miroslava. At one point he and Peter started wrestling each other!I managed to get some lovely pics by sticking my camera lens right through the wire fence...which Roger thought was funny! >Rogi was obviously having fun and was relaxed! that's why I like watching practice sessions! Mirka's thinking to herself "what a little boy I have for a boyfriend!" oh well, small price to pay to be his GF!! I'm sure the advantages FAR outweigh the disadvantages, right?? Day 3 ...wonderful backhands and three amazing high b/hand volleys...just like Pats! >ahh... Pat! I do see similarities betw those two gorgeous tennis players!! Fab report, Sue!! I guess it's just luck whether or not you see your fave practising... in TO they didn't even have a schedule w names... maybe in Montreal they will... I s ask Becca...

A little ray of hope for our Rogi?? Tuesday Jul 1 2003 SJENG SHAKEN BY FOOT INJURY By Mark Staniforth, PA Sport Sjeng Schalken's Wimbledon quarter-final are hanging in the balance after a recurrence of a long-standing foot injury. The 26-year-old Dutchman was hampered by the problem during his straight-sets win over Rainer Schuettler on Monday which earned him his second consecutive Wimbledon quarter-final. And it flared again overnight to put Tuesday's last-eight clash with Roger Federer in doubt. Schalken will have an MRI scan on Monday evening amid fears that he has broken a bone which would rule him out. But he remains determined not to let it deny him a chance to reach the semi-finals for the first time. He said: "I only slept for five or six hours last night because of the pain. "But I am determined to show up and I only won't play if I am in plaster." Schalken's opponent Federer also has injury concerns after pulling a back muscle during the warm-up prior to his straight-sets win over Feliciano Lopez. Federer admitted that he too played through pain and was due for intensive physiotherapy on Tuesday. Schalken, who described the match against Schuettler as a "nightmare", coined an old Dutch phrase when he added: "If we play it will be the blind against the cripple." source: www.sportinglife.com/

Hi RogiFan! So how is Roger now? How's the injury? Hope it's not serious *crossing fingers and praying* Hi Kiro! The article from the Financial Times/Sporting Life news says Rogi pulled a back muscle. Hope it's not too serious, although it caused him a lot of pain. Now Sjeng is ailing too! Why can't these things happen to other people (hint, hint)? Kimmie won her qf finally. Good.

RF So far there's no tennis in any of the internet TV programms I could find. But then there's still tomorrows shedule missing... ...will check out tomorrow. Hope he'll play late afternoon that way I might have a chance to watch him. As for the injury update on him I found this at www.baz.ch apparently he skipped todays training and had a massage and did relax instead. The pain didn't go away over night. Well there's a bit hope that the longer the match with Lopes went the pain got less and less painfull. That might be the case in tomorrows match as well. Or even better the blockade might go away over night. No mather what, Roger's prepared for a delicat match and is ready to go for it!! "Against Lopez I was also so relaxed at the beginning that I could keep myself in the game despeit the pain. I believe not many could have done so." LOL we have almost the same saying here the lame against the blinds Keep the fingers crossed Roger will win the battle!! (Guess both of them are hoping the otherone might withdraw.... just let's hope it won't be Roger that really would be a shame!!) Allleeezzz Roger hope you'll feel better tomorrow!!

Did I post these yet?? Worried Federer beats pain and the Spanish train Richard Jago Tuesday July 1, 2003 The Guardian Roger Federer survived to keep his title hopes alive when he feared they had been destroyed before a ball had been hit in anger. The fourth seed injured his back in the knock-up and after only two games was flat out on the court requiring treatment. "I couldn't move at all - I don't know how I won," Federer said after his 7-6, 6-4, 6-3 triumph against Feliciano Lopez, a hard-hitting left-handed Spaniard who clearly relished the challenge of a fast surface and the chance to get to the net. "It was very difficult for me because it just didn't go away," said the Swiss. "I could feel it with every shot. It puts pressure on you for everything. It's never happened like this before. It was totally blocked and I was in a lot of pain. "I tried to forget it and just have to take this as a lucky match." There was much more to it than that. Federer concentrated on stroking the ball freely and moving it about, and on keeping his first-serve percentage as high as possible. He also performed neck exercises between games, which helped to loosen him both physically and mentally and to overcome his most persistent shortcoming - tension. He was in greatest danger when Lopez came back from 3-6 to 5-6 in the tie-break but he finished off that mini- revival with an ace. And after breaking back from 1-3 in the second set he started to believe he could win. It earned him a quarter-final with Sjeng Schalken, the misleadingly statuesque Dutchman who was close to beating Lleyton Hewitt at that stage last year and who now got past the Australian Open finalist Rainer Schüttler in straight sets. The winner is likely to face the bookies' favourite Andy Roddick, who meets the unseeded Jonas Bjorkman after overcoming problems in the second and third sets against the flamboyant Paradorn Srichaphan. ... sport.guardian.co.uk/Schalken could quit Eighth seed Sjeng Schalken may be forced to pull out of Wimbledon before his quarter-final tie against Roger Federer on Wednesday because of a painful foot. The 26-year-old Dutchman was unable to practise on Tuesday and was undergoing a scan to check no bone was broken, the player told Dutch reporters. Meet...Sjeng Schalken Schalken, who reached the quarter-finals here last year before making the semi-finals at the U.S. Open, has suffered from a foot injury for many years and needs frequent treatment. He told the reporters he would not pull out of the match unless doctors ordered him to and would make his decision only at the last moment. Fourth seed Federer needed treatment on his back during Monday's fourth-round win over Spaniard Feliciano Lopez. source www.eurosport.com/homeTuesday, 1 July, 2003, 15:18 GMT 16:18 UK Schalken suffers injury scare Schalken fears his foot could be broken Sjeng Schalken is doubtful for his Wimbledon quarter-final clash with Roger Federer after suffering a recurrence of a long-standing foot injury. Schalken was hampered by the problem during his straight-sets win over Rainer Schuettler on Monday. And the injury flared up overnight to jeopardise the Dutchman's hopes of reaching the semi-finals for the first time in his career. He will have an MRI scan on Tuesday evening to determine whether he has a broken bone in his foot. "I only slept for five or six hours last night because of the pain," said Schalken. "But I am determined to show up and I only won't play if I am in plaster." Federer also has injury concerns after pulling a back muscle during the warm-up before his straight-sets win over Feliciano Lopez. The Swiss fourth seed admitted that he played through the pain and is expected to have intensive physiotherapy on Tuesday. source news.bbc.co.uk/

Thanks for the news, RF and Doris.
So Roger pulled a back muscle and Sjeng has a foot injury. Not good! but they both sound determined to play. why do these things always happen at the most important times?
ESPN has not said a word about Roger or his injury and they w have known by now. Pmac was trying to talk about a potential Pandy/Rogi semi and Brad shut him up and was like...Lets not talk about it til it happens. I am so convinced now that theres a deliberate decision not to talk about Rogi AT ALL or show any of his matches. Like when they had planned to show Rogi/Fish but then didnt. That was on purpose. Also, they showed hilights from all the men's matches yesterday, except Rogi's. I just hope he's well enough to play tomorrow.

I have noticed the same... there's a reason they don't show ANY of Rogi... so does Brad think Pandy will lose to Jonas or sth?? :laugh1: OR does he not want to know the outcome of the Rogi/Sjeng match out of fear?? It's just so maddening! Talk about Wms overload... the same match twice in a day? Come on! So we'll see Mark or Tim then PANDY right? Maybe just maybe a tiny nanosecond glimpse of Rogi? Ridiculous! Why do I bother sometimes? Can't stand this... Pls ROGI, be OK! He's probably saying Why me? Why now? Why always during the most important slam? Not fair!

Next year, I'm renting a small place nr Wimby and watching/taping him myself... and wandering around the village... So I guess you didn't get any more of Rogi than we did! So true! Anyone whos not Amer its always in a negative way. They dont want the 'typical viewer' to find out about the REAL players, only the yucky, generic, one-dimensional, boring, 'I'm just a serve' players. Yeah, making fun of the tabloids. Whats that about? They just like to make fun of things they dont understand, which is alot! Thats another thing...Rogi in a Slam QF. All the time they're saying how he's done nothing in a Slam and here he is doing something and do they say anything? No! The first time in 2 years and it gets ignored. I know if Cliffy was in charge of things, we'd hear a lot about it! They're trying to keep him quiet. Renting a place sounds good...might be the only way... all this talk about not seeing Rogi makes me want to see him more...maybe I'll go watch a tape...see you later, RF. Get better sweet Rogi

Get better sweet Rogi Yes, that's about the only way we get to see Rogi, on our precious tapes! Heal, heal, ROGI! I wonder if it w be better for Rogi if he doesn't play tomorrow or starts and Sjeng has to retire[!]... and get rest and treatment... Jonas, can he d Pandy?? Can he confound him??
