They tried to portray it as a "retirement", but Bud outed them. He came out and said was fired, though of course they say it has nothing to do with his age. I think they really prefer people who don't give a crap about tennis. Anyway, since they didn't expect to be outed on the firing, they've prepared a "tribute" to Bud that they'll show at the end of the week -- no doubt while live tennis is going on, true to NBC form. I'll miss you, Bud. No one on tv loves tennis as much as you do.

That's a shame. But, he couldn't be used as an announcer anymore, so what could NBC really do with him. This could be a positive as well, maybe he'll work for TTC, or something.
He was very good back in the day, though. When TTC was replaying all those RG finals from the 80s, good stuff.

TTC! What a great idea. Maybe they'd actually give him something to do, which NBC hasn't done in ages. He loves all the action on the outer courts; let him keep track of one of those matches and tell us about the lesser-known players.

I can't say I'll miss his interviews.
It always went like this:
- Congratulations in the player language. - Mention something negative: "you were broken right away!" "you lost your concentration on the second set, what happened!" ...

I'd be glad if they fired every commentator/reporter except for Bill Macatee, Tracy Austin, and Mal Washington.

Mal's virtually fired. I miss him. He should do porn.

That would be the best career move ever. He is so hot.

That he is. And I'm never attracted to black men. But, Mal is so delicious.

I always liked Mal, because he actually commentated like tennis was a sport, and treated tennis players like ATHLETES, something you'd never see from boneheads like Carillo, Shriver, and to a lesser extent, Patrick McEnroe

I vaguely remember Mal being unpopular on MTF, particularly from that Roddick fan "deb/stah/bunk."
Maybe she's just racist.

I'm confusing Bill Mackatee with someone else. I like the old guy with brown hair that does the courtside interviews on USA.

I agree, there's not an awful lot that could be done with Bud any more on NBC. But still,
