This has been one of the most boring Slams ever, I'm not even upset that Eurosport stopped their coverage to show the most mind-bogglingly stupid event at the Wolrd Championships in athletics, 20 km walk or something like that. The alternative to that would be watching Princess Masha destroy Dellacqua. No thanks.

I still don't share the widely held view at The Cult that the game is going down the shitter, but I'm finally convinced that people as a whole think the same as you. I'm trying to start a discussion about this at LusoTénis, where "Worst. Tournament. Ever." still isn't the standard issue post/stock reply to everything.

I still don't share the widely held view at The Cult that the game is going down the shitter, I don't share that view either and I used to argue with people who say that on WtaWorld all the time. I didn't complain during AO, RG and Wimbledon for example. It's that this time the coverage of US Open generally sucks, Serbian TV only shows the matches of Serbian players, which haven't been too exciting so far, and Eurosport has more limited coverage of this event, plus at my place it turns to German Eurosport when it comes to USO (but not during the rest of the day) and I pretty much only get to see various German and/or German-speaking players, like Schnyder destroying whomever today.

I still don't share the widely held view at The Cult that the game is going down the shitter, I don't share that view either and I used to argue with people who say that on WtaWorld all the time. On WTAW, it's just people who think the game sux because their faves are injured/retired/terminally sucking. Over here, it's more blasé, smug cynicism and reluctance to show earnest enthusiasm for anything at all. Plus some people who think the game sux because their faves are injured/retired/terminally sucking. ES International used to throw a lot of Schnyder on us as well. The Wimbledon coverage I got last year was laughable. This year's was much better, but it nonetheless managed to miss all the good matches (JJ-Safarova, Bartoli-Henin, Gasquet-Roddick). But I guess if I had to watch Ivanovic three times a week just hitting her FH down the middle or to wherever she happens to be facing as hard as possible, and not only getting away with it but becoming a top player, I'd be jaded too.

Fucking J-Block. Now would be the perfect time for Osama bin Laden to come out of hiding, from underneath the stands of Arthur Ashe Stadium, with a dirty bomb. Go Febreze!

I am cynical but I blame it on having spent years cheering first for ASV and later Davenport (bizarre combination, I know). With them you just knew it wasn't going to be a happy ending. Ivanovic is good to watch when she's not playing scrubs like Nakamura or the real elite like Henin. Against the likes of Jankovic, Vaidisova or Kuznestova she can be just fine. And she's not all FH. She has a good serve too. But who cares about tennis now, women's high jump is about to begin. Heja Kajsa!

It's just been an uneventful slam thus far. No real upset bids, memorable matches, or interesting runs.
The men's game hasn't been better for many years.
The women... well, yeah. It will evolve eventually, and we'll get more intelligent play.

Santoro just played a fantastic second set, sparking a semi-standing ovation and chants of SAN-TO-RO! SAN-TO-RO! lol.

Chak isn't a surprise. She's been very solid all year. I need to see this Szavay play. Title, title, SF is probably the best she would've hoped for.

This match has become incredibly weird. Fabrice is cramping and swearing and taking too much time and taking time-outs and ... Blake seems pissed.

I'm not convinced of that view either, but there it is. I'm not sure what people expect? When was tennis better? 1988? 1992? 1972? It seems every uncompetitive match brings a new round of condemnation, whether the favorite wins it or not.

Blake wins four straight points from 0-30, and wins.
Now there is the first great match of the tournament. Poor Fabrice. I swear, he won over about half the crowd.

Santoro Kolya or Murray beating Blake in the QF would be sweet. Well, HTL beating him in R3 would be sweeter, but that's not going to happen. I'm one of those who thinks the women's game is...not as high quality as it could be. But this US Open hasn't been particularly disappointing, it's only Day 4. We've had one decent-sized upset, which is about what it should be.
