The 2nd Thursday is ugly on paper every year.
But, there's usually a crazy 5-setter.

"But I think he's a fantastic player. Totally under-rated still sometimes from the media," said a typically gracious Federer.
"Even though I have a great record against him, I'm aware of his ability.
"It was a very close match we did at the French Open this year in the semis. Last year (at Flushing Meadows), I played out of my head in the semis, I remember.
"Looking forward to a tough match. He's a great player."

Congrats to Screaming Vika and Mad Max on their Mixed title. I can't believe Meg and Leander lost, the way they were playing, especially Meghann. They were up 4-0 in the supertiebreak, then what happened?? janiehub phoned from Hurleyvillle, so I missed the turnaround. But I'm happy for Max. and hey, even for young Vika. A little bit.

He needs to expand his repertoire --- how about imitating Carlos giving signals to Justine, or Serena wailing about her inability to afford fines, or the US commentators endlessly jabbering? Sharapova and Nudd-Ahl are Nole's biggest hits so to speak (even though I think his Roddick impression is at least up there with the Nudd-Ahl one). In here he does impressions of somewhat more obscure players like Ramirez Hidalgo and Volandri: youtube.com/watch?v=xYA_7RUSarUBut the best impression I've ever seen is the one this fellow does of Moya (at 1:50): www.youtube.com/watch?v=HVLaRlN2OTkLater on there is one of "Dropshot Dragon" Albert Portas that is totally played for laughs (6:10).

So Carlos Rodriguez admits publicly he and Justine are cheating to win matches. The admission is, kinda sad. If you are a cheater, then, keep it to yourself. Pretend you are not one. I cannot have respect for people who're proud of cheating. I agree, he's nuts to admit it. All the other coaches do the same thing -- Wertheim said so just yesterday -- but I'm sure Carlos is the first and only one to come out and say it. But I'm glad, because now he won't be able to do it, because they'll be watching him even more closely for violations. (Though I wonder what they'll do about Yuri, since they really, really want Maria to win more?) And I'd rather see Justine win without Carlos' incessant urging for her to move forward. As if she doesn't know that's what he wants her to do; Mary Joe has been beating it into OUR heads for years now, so I'm sure Justine is aware of it as well.

(Though I wonder what they'll do about Yuri, since they really, really want Maria to win more?) Just couldn't resist the urge of another stab at Maria and the Cruel Corporate Coalition that supports her, I see. Carlos' paranoia seems contagious. Yuri does nothing but clench his fists and shout "Vamos". I've never seen Maria look into her box asking if she should challenge a call or not like I've seen Henin do (and Carlos making a "don't bother" sign in return).

Yuri does nothing but clench his fists and shout "Vamos". He was waving a banana. Bananas, making hand gestures and shouting whatever cannot change the outcome of a match. It is against the rules and therefore shouldn't be done, but it hardly makes a difference and I can't really consider it to be cheating.

While I'm generally in favour of cracking down on coaching during matches, I'm not sure asking whether to challenge a call is really coaching. Players have always looked for confirmation of calls from their box. Didn't it only become coaching when they introduced hawkeye? I'm not a fan of any of them so my views are completely unbiased.
