Collins joins Tennis Channel, Ferrer hates big screen Posted: Wednesday September 5, 2007 10:02AM; Updated: Wednesday September 5, 2007 10:02AM NEW YORK (AP) -- Bud Collins found another new gig: working for Tennis Channel. After being let go at Wimbledon by NBC after 35 years with the network, Collins signed on with ESPN and its Web site before the U.S. Open. His latest job, appearing on-air and writing on the Internet for Tennis Channel under a two-year deal, was to be announced at Flushing Meadows on Wednesday. The 78-year-old Collins, known for his colorful outfits and creative nicknames for players, began writing for the Boston Globe in 1963 and was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 1994.

Bud is the best! Except for his attire of course.

Actually, his geezer-chic look has been the best thing about him since his commentary started going downhill.

What commentary? NBC kept Bud Collins under wraps for years which was absurd. Yeah, his short info pieces and interviews with winners on TV and his Globe articles have really declined in quality. Now he just kicks around random monikers like fraulein forehand and Sao Paolo swallow and says congratulations in a dozen different languages. Other than that it's he's only good for finding out how a foreign player's name is correctly pronounced.

I hope hope more airtime and feeling wanted again brings out the best in Bud after recent years of doing interviews but no analysis for NBC television.

Bud used to be a great announcer like 20+ years ago, but not anymore. The few times I've heard Bud guest announce, he's exactly like caelestia says.
I hope TTC uses him for some good filler shows. Just let him rant for a while, I'll watch. And interviews at slams, I guess.

Leena, Bud just needs to get used to doing some tennis anlaysis again after NBC took those duties from him a long time ago. Then I think his analysis will improve.
And Leena I didn't know Ree'n Pova fan is Caelestia from WTA World if I recall correctly. Thanks for that tidbit of information.
