Sounds like you have a fabulous time, Doris! I'm happy that you and Mrs. B could regress into teenagerhood for a bit. The whole cow thing still cracks me up, but good to know Federer handled it well. Surely he couldn't have been expecting them to give him a cow? LOL! ;D

More on our new favorite pet ;D This was the front page of ESPN! Organizers give Wimbledon champ a cowReuters espn.go.com/tennis/news/2003/0708/1578174.html GSTAAD, Switzerland -- Wimbledon champion Roger Federer battled to victory in the first round of the Swiss Open on Tuesday as he overcame gutsy Spanish qualifier Marc Lopez 6-3, 6-7 (4), 6-3. Earlier Federer was presented with his own cow -- named Juliette -- by organizers to commemorate his Wimbledon victory. "It is a great idea, very funny," was Federer's reaction when presented with the cow. -- glad I'm not the only one who cracked up! ;D "It is unbelievable to be here in my home country to celebrate winning Wimbledon." Federer, who became the first Swiss male winner of a Grand Slam on Sunday, was cheered on by a capacity 6,000 fans in the Roy Emerson Arena in Gstaad following his success in London. But the 21-year-old from Basel was forced to fight hard for victory on Gstaad's clay courts just two days after seeing off Australian Mark Philippoussis in straight sets to take the Wimbledon crown. Top-seed Federer took the opening set 6-3 only for Lopez, who had to win two games to reach the first round proper, to level things up after winning the second-set tie-break 7-4. Federer, whose world ranking has moved up to third, secured a vital break when 4-3 up in the final set before serving out to secure a place in the second round where he will now face Frenchman Jean-Rene Lisnard. Federer joins defending champion Alex Corretja, who eased through after a 6-1, 6-2 thrashing of John Van Lottum; while second seed Rainer Schuettler, the Australian Open finalist, was never troubled as he beat Wayne Arthurs 6-2, 6-3.

I think Juliette deserves her own thread now, LOL ;D Guess what Roger was doing today? Wimbledon champion Roger Federer (R), with a milking stool strapped on, takes a close look at his cow Juliette while cheese maker Hanspeter Reust (L) holds the animal still on Alp Eggli near Gstaad July 9, 2003. Federer, who had been presented with Juliette by the organisers of the Gstaad tennis tournament to commemorate his grand slam success, tried his hand at milking the cow. (even when only shipping by surface mail so it might take a while.) Viele danke, Doris-- I'll look out for it. Hope it comes before I'm off to Montreal at the end of the month. So is Gstaad a good place for a tourney? It seems everything is contained in a small area... no need to drive, can walk to everything... Alex really loves the tourney and the place and the people... listen to his interview on the site itself... looks just great! In TO, I had to drive for at least an hr just to reach the site... so far and so much traffic and everything... yuk!

lol He changed his shoes and said the first ones started to feel heavy on his feet. that look when he received his runnerup trophy was just a cheeky one, but cute, nevertheless! in the Baseland presentation his parents were also there, Mom Lynnette wore an red blouse and a white skirt. Mirka sat there too. They were driven away in a black beamer limousine...

Halli hallo Hope you guys and gals had a great weekend - I for sure had As Mrs. B. already told you I went to see the final in Gstaad!!! Right after he won his semis (which I watched on TV) I reserved my ticket - waited for about 5 min till I finaly got a free line... ...well my partents thought I was crazy but hey sometimes you have to be!! So I got up early on sunday morning as I had no clue how long it's going to take me to drive from my parents place to Gstaad. Well didn't take me as long as I thought. Almost got lost in Gstaad as I wasn't able to park at the same place Mrs. B. did on thuesday but finally found it Of course I was there far to early - enough to read all the newspapers (such as SonntagsZeitung - btw there's actualy a sports RS (RS = Rekrutenschule = military service) which most of the footballers, skiiers, hockeyplayers etc go to, but with tennis beeing an all year round sports that's something different - Blick, the Gstaad news of today etc..... took my seat erly so I wouldn't miss a thing. (Who can you take your seats to late to miss the first few games??) As usual when Roger wins the toss he choose to serve first and had a pretty easy game. But you already could tell at Novaks serve that it's going to be though. Still he managed to break him to lead 4:2 in the first just to get broken himself. Just as well he was able to win the first set 7:5 thanks to one of the few UEs form Novak. Sure we were delightet. Still not that cheering. Exept for clapping our encouragement - but not that much shouting or singing. Then second set Roger got broken early but managed to level the set again at 3:3 just to get broken right away again. He's serve really wasn't on today guess he wanted it that much he was over concentrated and he showed emotions again... (Roger no good at least not that extensive!!!) so it was no wonder Novak took the second set. Same in the third set - there were more and more shouts beeing heard like come on Roger allleezzz Roger - Roger didn't find his rythm and made lots of UE's and still was strugeling with his serve!! So it's no surprise that Novak won this third set too!! (Sometimes I had the feeling Roger rushed too much for it - but more about that later...) So now to the firth set where the public really stood behind Roger - even though it was pretty quiet at some changeovers well to be honest at most of them!! But all of a sudden Novak had his five week moments and Roger finaly played his game and took the set almost in now time with 6:1 now the public really was a wake and was shouting Roger clap clap clap Roger clap clap clap (and for the first time you could even hear the cowbells!! there was a man from the wallis in the statiom with about 5 cowbells hanging on a wooden strunk across his shoulders..) Nowak wasn't too pleased about that sound as it took a while till they were stil when he was ready to open that last set! And Roger had 2 bp but missed both of them (guess I don't have to tell you that the winner might have been an other when he could make that break) and keep on strugeling with his serve. He was able to hold till 2:2 but at 3:2 Novak he had 3 bps against him and Novak took the first chance.... ... you really could tell that Roger's arms and legs got heavier and heavier the longer the match went. And so it's no surprise that he had no longer any answers to Novaks serve..... ...despite not winning Roger played great and Novak just was the better man. So acknowleged Roger in the oncourt interview saying that the result desn't lie about his third final loss in Switzerland he said he's getting used to it (poor boy) but that the ones in Basel were more disapointing. Well as you all know his day wasn't finished yet. Right after the match was the ceremony of course and the press conference of course but then there was a helicopter waiting for him - to take him to Liestal where the ceremony was set at 16.00 h!!!! (Geee to be honest how stubborn can some ppl be to squese such a ceremony into an alreay overloaded shedule?? O.K. the match started early 11.30 h (and that for a final!!!) sure nobody really expected a 3 hrs marathon but still!! I wouldn't be surprised if that ceremony was deep hidden somewhere in Rogers head forcing him to rush on some points where he would have been better of to play save but win the point on the next stroke than beautiful and loose the point..... that my two cents to his shedule) After that he went on an helicopter again to be live at the sportpanorama he came late (no wonder) but he came and was still sooo relaxed and yet so moved when he saw these wimby pix as Mrs. B. said he got the video and can now suck it in what all happened since last Sunday!! Well after that he's day wasn't over yet as there was yet an other live interview with the french Swiss TV... ...as for today there's a photoshooting for the Annabelle and tomorrow that expo match with Yves and then finally he'll have his well deserved holiday!! Relax Roger!! It's hard not to see you play for two weeks but hey fill up your batteries again couse we need you fit for the US summer!! as for my day I stayed with a couple hundreds of others to watch the doubles final.... ....wasn't that great sure you still could feel the disapointment of Roger loosing around and most of the ppl left after the singles. To bad for the doubles players who would have deserved a larger crowd as well even when the play was avrage exept from some really nice points. Then I felt hungry and was looking for an ice cream and got it free as they wanted to get rid of it as they were closing the stand!! Same with the noodle dish. Already thought I came to late as the ppl were already cleaning the counter but then I heard that there's some left and I asked if I could have some. The guy said it's not warm anymore and I said that doesn't bother me and I got my plate for free as well Just made it right in time home to see Roger in the Sportspanorama (and watched it again at the second airing) So yes it was a fun day even when the icing on the cream was missing. But hey our boy did great!! (Gee guess the public would have goone insane if he really would have won.) To bad for all the autograph hunters as he was running out of time (now wonder with that shedule) he for once didn't have time for them... which is perfectly understandable. Well enjoy your holidays Roger!!

he's photoshooting with Annabelle? btw., we also parked close to the Eggli station on Thursday, but of course there's loads of shuttle bus for everyone, and you should have gone up and said hello to Juliette. You'd prolly could have gotten some free fresh milk too! ;D I'll ask my husband's colleague's gf if she'd take me to the Swiss Sports Awards. She works for Credit Suisse and for sure Roger will be this year's winner. Too hot here today, my laundry's drying out so quickly at the balkon. But now I'm taking a dip at the Aare... 'later...

So you got a seat closer to the court than the last time? The organizers were happy that there were 500 people more this year than last, thanks to Roger. But Allianz might pull out next year...

Fab report Doris! Wow must have been hot Rogi looked sunburned in his TSR interview but managed to be goodnatured throughout poor luv! Mrs. B. I was thinking he has to win the Swiss sports award this yr it's not every day a Swiss wins a slam!! Yeah those organizers are killing Rogi w their whirlwind tour... does he ever need rest... Badeferien... does that mean by the water or sea? Bad = bath?? Maybe a spa holiday is what he needs... some lovely women to attend to his every need!! I was thinking Spain too!! He can go to that spa where Costa got married... nr Tarragona!! Nice place. He could ask Alex where to hang... Hope the press doesn't intrude... he needs privacy as well... I think Rogi s pull out of Washington only to preserve his health... he must be totally "epuise" exhausted and more. I was thinking about ROgi having to rush thru the match cos of his commitments too! Why did they schedule it so soon after the match??!! Poor tired baby!! lol Doris on your free food!! He'll be in demand forever now... interviews, TV, mags, newspapers... I wish we could get those things here!! No Swiss news or mags!! What's Annabelle?? Sounds like a women's mag to me. That's OK... if women look at him then he'll be even more popular... on the news they mentioned how Rogi's popular w the girls... no kidd!! Gosh, work and a meeting soon... blah! Nice day again... perfect!

Mrs. B. The seat I had was at around the same area only about 8 rows higher up, but nobody in the seat infront of me so I had a clear view which I didn't mind at all hehehe Guess what I've been thinking of that as well that Roger will take the years sports award. Can one already order tickets oh wait you have to wear fancy dresses that could be a problem though ....
