Wow Mrs. B!!! (Don't need to say I'm jaelous do I??) Hmmmm did you get my message in time?? I know I sent it late!! Hey I looked as hard as I could but didn't see you on TV!! (yeap they showed this expo thing at the Sport aktuell ) He really must have enjoyed this even when it was kind of work for him - I mean after all it was a sponsor apointment wasn't it? Thanks so much Mrs. B for that really great close up report!! No wonder you had a blast. Gee I would have been far to shy to ask any questions let alone talk to Mirka!! Glad you did though Hei this is so far the only report I found: "Starparade" at Herrenschwanden Always a smile on the lips: Roger Federer represented himself as an Idol to be touched What's happening, when Wimbledon-winner Roger Federer together with YB-Players (Bern's soccer team) and SCB-Profis (Berns hockey team) is playing tennis? There's a lot to laugh about. The many spectators ath the sportscenter Thalmatt could be convinced of it,. Roger Federer should be allowed to put up his feet between the though Davis-Cup encounter in Down Under and the seasonfinal indoors. But the Baselbieter doesn't get a break. After the photo-shooting at the trainingscenter of Swiss Tennis in the morning - soon there will be new autograph cards be printed - the world Nr. 3 is awaiable for one of his sponsors the investment company Atag Asset Management in the afternoon. The 22 year old represents himself in the sportcenter Thalmatt, tierdness on one side, the defeat against Lleyton Hewitt on the other, as a muster representant: Federer has always a smile on his lips answering yet so awquad questions from the mediapeople, or writting an autograph, or swinging his raquet. Leandro (a footy player) and the net The feltballs artists opponents for once weren't andy Roddick or Mark Philippoussis, but the young talents Romina Orpandi, Patrick Käser and Nando Lappert, die YB soccer players Stéphane Chapuisat, Leandro and Gürkan Sermeter as sthe SCB- hockey players Sébastien Bordelau, David Jobin and Waleri Schirjajew. For once the aim isn't to hit as many aces as possible, but to have as much fun as possible and to entertain the public. The announced "Starparade" attracted over 600 spectators to Herrenschwanden. Against Patrick Kaser, the N4 classified Junior, Federer indicates with a wicked forehand, how fast the speed is on top, otherwise he's helpful as a attentive doublespartner and useful as an sparingpartner for his opponents. Chapuisat, as a former Champions-League-Winner with Borussia Dortmund himself one of the bigones amog the swiss sports, is just like the SCB canadian Bordelau despit lacking tecknique with pleasure at the case. Sermeter smiles like a ladybug and runs like a gepard, and Leandro grabs the Ball befor his second serve from his yellow stockings. But it appears that nobody told the brasilian that the round thing in tennis not like with football should land in the net. But not only the forward from YB makes the public laugh. Isn't malicious joy the nicest of joys? Jobin and the praise Coach Hans-Peter Zaugg sais at YB the participants haven't been choosen by their talents. "We wanted to present the fans players with well known names." The occasion in Herrenschwanden is a "good thing. It can only be good for the sport in Bern when people from both big clubs (YB and SCB) to speak together sometimes." When Jobin was hitting the first bals Federer acknowleges immediately "aha, I do get a good doublespartner". The wimbledon winner isn't mistaken. Jobin once was a champion from the Jura (a Kanton in Switzerland) in the categorie U14. It is a great experiance to get to know Federer says the SCB defender, "otherwise one sees him only on TV". The Baselbieter is a "relaxed and likable guy". Schirjajew, who's playing interclub in Le Locle during summer agrees with his team mate: "Federer is an open person stardome is not his thing that's why he has most of the time the public behind him" (couldn't have said it better myself ) He has been following the three day Davis-Cup tie against Australia on TV pretty intense, says the ukraeinian (sp???) who's thrilled by the event in the sportscenter Thalmatt. The "Oldie" from the SCB-Team speaks from "best publicity for the sport". Zaugg and the tie All of a sudden the moderator applies to hans-Peter Zaugg to be part of it. And when Sermeter yells through the hall, "come on coach, I need a partner" the coach can't turn it down anymore, despite beeing dressed in a suit and a tie for the following Apero. "Just today I'm not wearing my training suit for a change, that's teaching me for the future" he says only half as serious after his short appearance. As his fellow players have been under the shower for a long time, Federer's working day isn't over yet. He's posing with the ballkids for a picture writes autographs. Despite a never ending queue he has a smile and a nice word for everybody. Roger Federer an idol to be touched. source: special.ebund.com/sport/default.asp?module=artikel&ID=3173&Art=8www.derbund.ch

thanks for the article, Doris. had too much champagne yesterday to remember all the details during the exhibition, but i did remember the guy who put the second ball in his yellow socks, Roger was half laughing about that. The publikum was really entertained! And the YB trainer, it was funny cuz he took off his suit but was playing in his long sleeved white shirt with a tie, and he wore loafers! lol That Ukrainian was talking to Roger in French, Sermeter(?) returned some balls and grunted like Seles, to the delight of the crowd. yes, i did get your poem. i waited to get that before i left the Wohnung. ;D

Mrs B! Hope you don't have a sore head after all that champagne and excitement! Your report was just wonderful and I love that you know all the little details that we're interested in So great for you to have been able to chat to Mirka in such a relaxed way and even more so that you got to speak to Roger AND get your pic with him AND pass the messages on.Hope he's not getting bored with the red envelopes! I'm worrying now that I might not fulfill the mission in Madrid...its quite hard to get near to the players there...and I don't want to let you all down.....argh!! Thanks again Mrs B- you're a star..and thanks Doris for that article.

Sue, luckily i have no hangover this morning, but my tummy's a little funny! Yeah, that was really a good experience yesterday and Roger was so relaxed even if he looked tired (he kept stretching his arms during the games. Gosh, this prolly will never happen again so i'm going to cherish it for always. It was funny to hear Roger acknowledge the red envelope, and i'm glad that i was able to hand it personally to him even if Mirka suggested something else. But good luck in Madrid! The tradition has to continue.

Oh and here I found an iterview: "I'm not always counting." After the Davis-Cup and the last tournaments of the season the tennisstar Roger Federer honored Herrrenschwanden with a visit. There he was among others introduced to Stéphane Chapuisat. Interview: Stephan Dietrich Roger Federer you have to play tennis with Cracks from YB and SCB for the sponsor AAM. Is that for you fun or an annoying duty? RF: Fun of course. It's interresting to meet other sports. I'm mostly looking forward to meet Stéphane Chapuisat. How was the trip from Davis-Cup in Australia? RF I've been suffering in the plane. My body was hurting everywhere, and I was pretty tired after the games. I'm still a little tired yet, but till the training starts on Monday everything will hopefully be o.k. again. For the firsttime since 2001 you've lost a singles in Davis-Cup. Have you gone over it yet? RF: Surprisingly quick yes. Right after the match against Lleyton Hewitt I was very disappointed. But overall we have reached a lot with the Davis-Cup-Team and that's why the disappointment disappeared pretty quick. Davis-Cup is very time demanding, but doesn't bring any points for the ranking. Why are you doing this to you? RF: Becouse it's a lot of fun to play in this Team. Davis-Cup encounters bring emotions you can hardly get anywhere else as a tennisplayer. Nobody has expected that we would reach the semifinal this year. Now we want more. You'll be also playing Davis-cup again next year? RF: At any circumstances. I hope that then we will be able to play at home again for a change. Lately we had to play 5 times abroad. It's something of the most beautiful things to be able to play infront of the home public. But first you have other big aims till the end of the season. RF: Yes, I'm looking forward to the five tournaments I'm going to play in. At Vienna I have a title to defend, Basel is my home tournament and in Madrid, Paris and Huston I still have a small chance to become the Nr. 1. How important is that place on the tennis top for you? RF. My aim is it to become the Nr. 1 once, but I'm not counting each day how many points I still nead to reach this aim. At the moment you'r more an outsider... RF: That's right. I have to defend quite a lot of points in the remaining tournaments. But when I don't become the Nr. 1 this year then maybe during the next year. Are you still motivated for these tournaments after this long season? RF: It's been the most successfull season of my career. There it would be no good when I all of a sudden would lack motivation. I feel good and want to prove this during the next weeks. What has changed since your Wimbledon-win at the beginning of July? RF: the success gave me a lot of selfconfidence. I still have the pictures in my head, but one isn't allowed to think about it to much. I still have to work very hard on me. And then I'm always remembered by the media and the fans about my triumph. You have to answer over and over again the same interview questions. Is there a question you don't like at all? RF: I don't really like the pressconferences I have to do after every match. One can't analyse each game the same good way, that makes the questions and answers boring a lot of times. But that's part of it one has to get through it. With your relaxed and nice way you've became an idol for a lot of young people. Did you have idols as a kid yourself? RF: In tennis I was a big fan of Stefan Edberg (yes me too ) and Boris Becker. Beside it I was interrested in Basketball and therefore in Michael Jordan. How does a kid become a tennisstar? RF: Important is the talent, besides it one must like the game. Is that already everything? RF: No,no. It's also important that the parents are behind you and still don't take to much influence. It works best with a good coach the parents can trust. The road to the top is hard and one also has to be able to deal with setbacks and accept them. It' also important I think that one's not only concentrating on one sport. It's good for the coordinations when a kid makes different sports. As an example I've been playing soccer for quite a long time too. You have launched an own parfum-collecations. Do you spray yourself with the Roger-Federer-smell in the morning? RF: (laughs) of course. I like the smell, I've helped to produce the parfum. And what does it smells like? RF: That I can't describe, one has to try it by its own. Next friday it'll be botteled and then be on the marked. sorry can't make it bigger..... sourse: www.bzonline.chwww.bzonline.ch/medien/archiv/details.asp?vID=351742&newspaper=bz

Hummmm, great idea, if we can go watch too, that'll be even better ;D. I'm still wondering why Mirka said Rogi's playing Hongkong? Maybe she's confused that with Tokyo? which is the only Asian tourney left? Or maybe an exhibition in Hongkong? Very interesting.
