Horrible draw. The second quarter = JOKE!
I'm picking Sweat to come through that top half and lose to Jelena in the final. Silliams will take care of ~Baby Anci Gurl~ in the quarters. Another QF loss for Penis too! Could the match of the tournament happen in the opening round this year?:
Marion Bartoli FRA (9) vs Casey Dellacqua AUS

I guess this is about as good a Williams/Shriek-quelling draw as we could have hoped for. Though Jankovic will have to be on point from the start - Cornet, Cibulkova and Radwanska all ended up in her 16th I'd actually really like a Sweta/JJ final - they're so constantly unheralded and underestimated, it'd be good to see them duke it out. Sweta's had an underwhelming clay season, though, for no reason that I can tell...wouldn't be surprised if Azarenka takes her out. Silliams v JJ semi could be crucial...

Too bad about Bepa and ED facing off in the 16s. Not sure either of them have the mental fortitude to beat Shriek afterwards either. Maybe Szavay in the SF? Vesnina is a toughie but past that... Can JJ beat the Willies back-to-back? Tough ask. Maria-Serena, looks like. Thanks, Justine.

This tournament is Serena's. No way is she losing this. Thanks a lot, Justine.

I'd be shocked if Maria AND Serena made the final. I think one of the SRBs will take it out before. As for Maria, her draw isn't as easy as people are thinking IMO. She has a lot of players in her section who've pushed her hard in the past. And this is the French. On clay. So we'll see.

Wow, just about every Frenchwoman of any note got crammed into that third quarter.
Venus won't like seeing Jelena in her path at all, but I worry about something hideous happening!
Maria owns Dementieva, and will probably take Zvonareva if it happens too. Maria isn't good on clay, but this is a good a draw as she could ask for to reach the final here.
It's impossible to call the result. There are several women with a chance here and no clear favorite. Reminds me of olden days.

I see some of The Cult decided to go "ZOMG that subhuman piece of scum Shriekapova has a BYE into the final!!!11!!1!!" instead of actually looking at the draw.
No mention yet of Safina? She's as invisible here as at TF.
Maria won't defend her points from last year if the draw goes according to seedings. She needs some carnage to happen to go deep. It's easy to forget that Maria is the weakest of the top 4 seeds here.
Kuznetsova is the likeliest finalist from the upper half. In 2007 she overplayed and limped into the QF as a walking casualty; I suspect she wanted to avoid that this year and didn't give her all in the TIs. Either way, she'll be fresh this year.
People who are complaining of Chak being overranked will only have to wait a couple more weeks.
Radwanska has been hogging as if there's no tomorrow this season; she has to run out of gas sometime. But even if she doesn't deliver, Jankovic's draw is still a minefield. She should be the one to come out of her 1/4 though.
Bottom 1/4 is weird in that Ivanovic has a cakewalk into the QF, then about a 1 in 4 chance if Serena makes it there uninjured, and then the title if she somehow gets past Serena or if Serena isn't her QF opponent.

OMG Masha got a catwalk draw! Larry Scott needs FIRED! Well, not really. Safina and Dementieva/Zvonareva can take her down, and I wouldn't call her the favourite against Sweata on clay, although it's far from certain that Kuznestova will get to the semis in the first place. Still, it could have been much worse. She could have been in Serena's quarter.
Baby Gurl Anci is going to beat Ree!

It's Kuznetsova who has a good draw, not Maria. Kuznetsova got the weakest of the top 4 seeds, and the weakest of the 5-8 seeds.
Anyway, I really shouldn't be saying this ( :kissofdeath: ), but I have some hopes of Vika A. making her big breakthrough here. Hopefully she still has something left in the tank after her recent hogging and injuries.

Yeah, but Kuznetsova blows. Or at least she blows every time I see her play. I'm beginning to wonder how she even manages to win matches at all. The last time I actually saw her play well was probably back in 2006.
Jankovic got a killer draw. Playing Cibulkova and Cornet/Radwanska back to back is not going to be easy. Especially considering that she's wasting her time at Eurosong as we speak. Hopefully her mommy will not let her stay up too late.

Yeah, but Kuznetsova blows. Or at least she blows every time I see her play. I'm beginning to wonder how she even manages to win matches at all. The last time I actually saw her play well was probably back in 2006. vs Serena at Stuttgart last year. Flawless. Matched firepower with firepower, BH was on fire, serve scary, finest all-court game from her in years. But main point is that she has enough artillery to win even when she's playing shite. Plus she's much more often in the receiving end of chokes than on the giving end. Kind of like Baby Anci, who I've never seen play a good match but never chokes. Jankovic got a killer draw. Playing Cibulkova and Cornet/Radwanska back to back is not going to be easy. Especially considering that she's wasting her time at Eurosong as we speak. Hopefully her mommy will not let her stay up too late. I really hope you're joking.

I really hope you're joking. About her wasting time at Eurosong? Well, it's true. Her mom pulled a Samantha Stevenson and made a big fuss about Jelena being overlooked for Novak and Ana who were both invited to take part in it... And voila, two days later Jelena shows up at the Eurosong party and apparently she's about do do something during the final on Saturday. I can only hope that's it's only going to be a video message or something and that she's not actually going to be there. That would be just too crazy.

Especially considering that she's wasting her time at Eurosong as we speak. Hopefully her mommy will not let her stay up too late. Oh, for fuck's sake. There I was rejoicing that she hadn't taken a last minute WC into Istanbul. "Not giving her all in Tier Is to save herself for RG" is a...kind interpretation of Sweta's back-to-back 3R losses to A-Bond and Cornet. Agree that Safina will probably be a bigger hurdle for Shriek than either of the headcases in the second eighth; remember, she beat her here two years ago. Still, I'd take Maria for the SF. Then, it'll depend whether she meets Sweta or not. Who the hell is going to come out of the section headed by Mauresmo and Bartoli?! God it'll be Savchuk or someone.

On her qualie form Gajdosova should make the 3R past O.Sanchez and either Muller and Knapp
Ma. jose didn't get a great draw, vs Medina. Poor Niculescu., worse luck, Eurosong or not.
They could have used Sfar's draw (Dubois).
Benesova has a good shot at Nikki in 1R, no?

OMG Masha got a catwalk draw! Larry Scott needs FIRED! Bless your heart. Sweata could make it far again...or crash out in the first week. Regardless of her game and its suitability to this surface, she is and will always remain a flake. Bepa will lose to Demented and the final will be Chak vs. Camee Pan with enormous choking on both sides with a 6-1 0-6 235-233 decision to Pin.

Leelee's very wrong picks:
Sharapova d. Kirilenko Zvonareva d. Dementieva Kuznetsova d. Schiavone Chak d. Vesnina Pennetta d. Bartoli Radwanska d. Jankovic Silliams d. Zakopalova Baby Anci Grrl d. A-Bond
Zvonareva d. Sharapova Chak d. Kuznetsova Radwanska d. Pennetta Silliams d. Baby Anci Grrl
Chak d. Zvonareva Radwanska d. Silliams
Chak d. Radwanska.
I will fail!

I'm even having dreams of Chak winning this. I'm so fucked up. She is going to do it somehow, and it will be very painful to watch.
This RG just has that 2004 feeling. The decent pusher will win while everyone dies around her. Except with Russian apathy instead of exuberance. How things change in 4 years.

No, the decent pusher will be Jankovic. She'll beat Venus in the QF, like Myskina did. Then Baby Anci Gurl in the semis - she's like Caprifati. And then Demented in the final, who'll forget how to serve again. It's destiny!

Gorgeous, that Ukrainian woman. Just gorgeous. That's why she came in 2nd. But it was too much to fight against the schoolgirls who voted en masse for that Russian thing. I thought the Armenian chick was really pretty. And Jelena Jankovic opened the show with a video message. Thank God there was some sanity left in her and she wasn't actually there. And she looked stunning, her body is just smoking hot. If only she had Baby Anci Gurl's face.
