Everyone I know is going to root for Jelena. Yet Ana is so much more present in our media and you get the feeling she's way more popular than JJ.
It would be nice to see them develop a real rivalry because they really are as different as it gets. Their obvious differences in looks and games aside, they're just complete opposite in every way. Everyone who's ever had any personal encounter with Ana says that she's really lovely and sweet and charming. She never says anything controversial, and if there's just a hint of controversy in her statements, she'll be quick to refute it and say she got misquoted. She's nice. She's Kimmy. While Jelena is known to be bitchy, but also more fun. She's also happy to talk about how she can't tell the Chinese apart, and that one of the biggest advantages of being a star in Serbia is that she doesn't get speeding tickets. Or mention, not without a touch of pride, how one of her fans got his house burnt down because the electricity went off at his place so he went to watch her match at a friend's house, and left a candle lit on.
But, Anci is winning tomorrow. I can't picture a different scenario.

Though I want JJ to win the title, as long as Dinara loses, I'm happy, because then we will not have the ignominy of another Slamless #1.

I'm really rooting for JJ, thought I can't see babygurl Anci losing.
Safina already up 2-0.

Dinara one set away from her first GS final. Will Sveta do to Dinara what she did to Devilisova 2 years ago?

Kuzy is tight! Dinara is sharp; she's not starting slow today. I'm rooting for Jankovic, too. I didn't realize so many people were pulling for her! I want a Kuz-Jank final, but Kuz is letting me down.

I still like her, even if she's Kim-level nice; she hasn't aggravated me -- yet.

Parisians don't care about Kuz or Safina. And they always file in late for the first match anyway. Oh, well, I've got to go now.

Why would anyone root for Ku'zzz'netsova?

Post by Traveling Man on Jun 5, 2008 8:34:34 GMT -5
Okay, so now it's 6-3, 5-2 for Safina. This is eerie.
In 2006, Nicole lost the first set to Momo and Venus 7-5 or 7-6 and then won the next two sets (in the same pattern in both matches). Then she won the opening set 7-5, against Sveta in the SF, had a MP (I think) and lost it in three. Safina's won her last two matches against Maria and Lena D in similar fashion, and now she's the one who's leading. Will history repeat itself?
Okay, so basically that's nonsense, but I can't get this stupid trend out of my head.

Why would anyone root for Ku'zzz'netsova? Yeah, she has no charisma at all. A Safina vs Jelena final would be perfect.

I don't mind either of them reaching the final, although I would prefer to see Ana playing well and winning.
Safina is looking strong though which makes me hopeful that the final will not be a choke-fest. If Ana/Jelena chokes then Dinara will punish them I hope.

Wow, Dinara Safina is...actually going to win, isn't she! It's like destiny clicked into gear in Berlin and has carried right on through. At the level she's playing, it's going to take someone with a huge amount of mental strength to beat her.
*looks at who's playing the other SF*
Yeah, Dinara's going to win RG. This is just to piss us off with a Slamless No 1 innit.
Kuzzy's got one of the more endearing personalities on Tour (to the extent that you can tell from interviews etc), and when she's playing well she's amazing and devastating to watch (a man's game, really), but yeah...she could never be a real favourite, just someone I root for now and then, because she's so frustrating.
