Babygurl Anci wins a set for the first time in a GS final.
Win it in three, Dina.

Ivanovic saying "Adje" after winning a point is nice to hear. But she's blowing this first set and now the nerves could set in and ruin things for her. Safina has her teeth in the match now and Ana will have to win a war.

Well I for one don't miss that Mini Allez Monster thrashing scrubs 1 and 1 on finals day here. Monica on the other hand...

the cat, Ajde is cute enough, but it gets a bit tiresome after every point won. I'm all for fist pumping and roars after winning a long rally or hitting an extraordinary winner or even winning a point during a tense stage of the match. But with Ana, she'd even shriek "Ajde!", pump her fists, collapse on the court and start gyrating after winning a point in an exhibition against a 12-year-old junior. Dude.

Why is she called Anci, and Baby Gurl, anyway Anci is a Serbian nickname for girls named Ana, while the Baby Gurl addition is something that spontaneously started here.

And don't forget her shrieking "Vamos!" as well, though not every single point.

Why is she called Anci, and Baby Gurl, anyway I was wonderfing the same thing. I assume it's because of the nickname Williams fans have given Serena.

Ivanovic should have been up 5-2 in the second set after she hit a backhand return winner down the line but it was called out and not over ruled and she ended up losing a tough game. Now Ana is serving at 6-4 4-3 with alot of pressure on her shoulders.

Justine. ;D
I never realized I'd miss her. RG just didn't feel the same without her - I guess we have to get used to it now.
Congrats to Ana. She was overdue a Slam win and really, I can't think of anyone in the draw more worthy of the championship.
Safina didn't bring her best, understandably. I just hope this wasn't her one big shot.

Ana forgot to thank Justine for retiring! Lolz. Seriously though, I half expected one of them to mention her in some way (thank her for coming to present or whatever). I did laugh out loud when Dinara told Ana's box they were annoying.

Congrats to Ana Ivanovic on winning her first grand slam singles title and on becoming #1 for the first time. And Ana gave a nice interview after the match too. She didn't want to stop talking when she was being interviewed by Mary Carillo on NBC. Ana is used to talking an talking. And well done to Dinara Safina for acquitting herself so well at this years French Open.

I think Ivanovic has enough game and a good enough serve that she can win more grand slam singles titles than Maria Sharapova.

Anci!!!!11
It was more exciting than previous RG finals, which doesn't say much of course. But still, it wasn't a gross error-fest, there were some very good rallies and both were rather composed, until the last game where Dinara fell apart. It is kind of sad that this is about as good as WTA can offer in Slam finals nowadays, but you take what you can.

I'm so pleased that was a good match. High quality and very absorbing for the most part, with some absolutely stunning winners - at least two which got standing ovations from the crowd. Most of the UEs were after long rallies, and the weirder, chokier errors came at times when they added to the drama (and didn't come in sufficient quantities to ruin the match). Disappointed that Dinara didn't win, but I don't think she has much to be ashamed of: the key really was Ana's defense. For someone who gets tagged as slow so much, she sure gets a lot of balls back. When Dinara dominated the point, you still thought she had to play an extra-special shot just to get the ball past Ana. When Ana dominated the point, she didn't have nearly the same pressure on her, so could just blast away. I miss Justine though

I think Ana will pull back a bit on her on court emotions now that she's won her first grand slam title and will settle into her career at the top of women's tennis.
